"What do Dick Cheney, Hillary Swank and Johnny Carson all have in common? Very little except they all lived in Lincoln Nebraska." Another thing they all have in common, *none* of them are Dick Cavett. Pictured: Dick Cheney, Hillary Swank and Dick Cavett I wonder if Dick Cavett ever lived in Lincoln Nebraska?
I was worried Montpelier's fact would be that it's the least populous capital or that it's the only capital without a mcdonalds. But you chose the cute fact about the valentines phantom instead, and you even pronounced Montpelier right. I am pleased.
Here is an interesting fact about Rhode Island: We are a state, not an island off of New York. You would be surprised how many people think we are Long Island.
mintyicecream7 What!? But everybody knows Bubs! His name Cornbread. If he had thumbs, he'd be sticking them in his armpits right now... ew... Okay, sorry. When I see an opportunity to quote H*R I can't help myself.
Speaking of Portland... I live in Portland Oregon and there isn't a single car downtown without a bumper sticker saying "Keep Portland Weird." Where did doggone Austin come from!?
Most likely Portland should've been the capital of Maine and deserves to be the state capital and maybe Bangor, not that piece of shit welfare dependent town with a capital building called Augusta.
The Edgar Allan Poe play "Politian" that John Green mentioned was based off of an incident involving my ancestors in the Beauchamp-Sharp tragedy of Kentucky! I can actually trace the Beauchamp family name all the way back to William the Conqueror and the Norman invasion of England!
Ummmm no. www.google.com/search?q=define+concord&oq=define+concord&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.2191j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=125&ie=UTF-8 Go ahead and click on the little pronunciation speaker icon
wow that video i found is dumb as bricks, i just youtube searched "concord nh" and watched the first like 17 seconds haha but watching past then.. sorry for posting that hahaha
Another Interesting Fact about Pierre, SD (from me, a South Dakotan): Anyone local to South Dakota pronounces the capital city "Peer". If you pronounce it "Pea-air", you will be immediately known as someone who isn't from around here.
The bug from Rhode Island is named Nibbles Woodaway, and at Christmas time he's dressed up with Christmas lights, antlers, and a red nose to look like Rudolph.
I love that the Earthquake Game got a mention here. Until I started school here at the beginning of this year I had never heard about it, but now I know just how proud Tiger fans are of it over 20 years later. Geaux Tigers!
I'm from Rhode Island and just wanted to let you know our (Big Blue Bug) has a name it's called "Nibbles Woodaway" we had a school contest in 2007 and a kid won and got to name him XD.
Here in NH we pronounce Concord as Con-KERD. I know, I know, makes no sense. Does anything we say in New England actually make sense? Haha! Love your videos!
Great stuff, very interesting. Love the banjo, although, banjos and cellos are the two scariest musical instruments ever, in my mind (hints: "Squeal like a pig" & "We're going to need a bigger boat"). To elaborate on Indiana's capitol; To use The Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the interesting fact, is like using The Pope as one of the famous people to have slept in Vatican City (which as you mentioned would fit into the Speedway, with several other locations). However, you could have mentioned that the original capitol of The Indiana Territory, was Vincennes, which is full of American history, and/or that Corydon was Indiana's first capitol as a state (and second as a territory). Corydon is also full of history including the place where Squire Boone died, and was entombed in a cave, (where years later relic hunters would go in and snatch parts from his skeleton until someone with brains finally decided that the last pieces of his remains should be collected and preserved for history, if not for his dignity). WHO is Squire Boone you ask? He is Daniel Boone's brother. BUTT (not a misspelling, just a fun play on words), What is Corydon truly famous for at this time of strange internet history? Butt Drugs, of course. As can be seen with a simple RU-vid search for "Butt Drugs". Always remember, if you're going to take a trip to Georgia for some river rafting, first stop off at Corydon, Indiana's first capitol, run in the Cavern and say hello to Daniel Boone's brother, and then look for Butt Drugs, because you never know when you'll hear a couple of scary banjos dueling.... Still, the same ole Indy 500 stuff is okay too (even something for every Hoosier to be proud of), and I guess it's actually fitting, considering I just watched this video in May...... I wont even touch on the interesting facts of Florida's state capital, due to the fact that I would have to mention that there was once a "West Florida", and I'd be sitting here for days. This video has some great stuff in it, really interesting.................

OMG! I think I'm gonna forget to be awesome! What can I do?
A bit unrelated, but we Oregonians also have the world's shortest river. It's called the D river and it's in Lincoln city. It goes into the Pacific and there is a rather nice restaurant next to it called Kyllo's.
4:50 Oh no, what horribly embarrassing thing is he going to say about Minnesota... 4:58 That isn't so bad, most Minnesotans learn this on their school trip to the capitol in 4th grade. 5:59 Oh god, there it is....
ive been to the Banjo Muesuem in OKC. we went as a joke and ended up LOVING it! they have a huge collection of "fancy" banjos, and that super expensive banjo is gorgeous!
Another interesting fact about Lansing, Michigan, which is what I thought for sure would be what you mention for this video, is that it is the only state capital that is not a county seat.
another fact about pierre south dakota: we south dakotans pronounce it as one syllable like the word "peer", not two syllables like "pee-air" :) sidenote: if you do another video involving states, please do us a favor and dont talk about or even use a picture of mount rushmore. theres more to us than that lol
You pronounced the capitol of South Dakota wrong. I know it looks like the French name, and it even came from the French name, but if you ask any resident of the state they'll tell you it's pronounced "Peer". I don't know why we pronounce it that way, but we do. Pronouncing it like the French name is also a big pet-peeve of South Dakotans.
We have a joke in Nevada: "Films that take place here are shot in California, becuase it's too shitty to film here." Perfection, Nevada from Tremors is an example.
I watched for Jefferson City. Been here my whole life; another neat fact about it, though, is that before the current Missouri River bridge was built, there was a two lane bridge that was too low to let barges pass, so it had a pivoting center section.
Nahhh, it started in Austin. Even when it comes to politics Austin/central Texas votes differently from the rest of the state. Haha. But the Keep Portland Weird thing can be heard often in the show Grimm! ❤
Anyone from Waco Texas would argue with you about Austin being central Texas. the southern point (At least as I know it) is about Belton/ Temple. Where as the northern is Clifton.
I didn't mean to say that central Texas is ONLY Austin. I was just generalizing the area. Should have used "and" instead of the slash symbol. I live north of Austin myself. :)
We may have named our capital after a French guy, but we actually pronounce it like 'Pier'. This is how we spot tourists. Also: when the South Dakota capital building was in construction, it was decided to not get marble pillars, but instead to use scagolia - a man-made marble that cost about a tenth of the price of marble. These pillars are now irreplaceable, since the process of making scagolia is considered a lost art.
So glad my state's capital is named after an awesome fire bird of myth, and not a giant gourd. Now if only we can do something about that "car jacking capital of the world" thing.
