It is so lovely that while you sailed on such rough weather you hung the towels to dry outside. I´m sure they were pretty dry when you had a shower LOL
hate to be that armchair captain on RU-vid but seriously... No Jack Lines? C'mon.... Your friend had a harness and tether that he was just holding in his hand to go forward to secure that locker. I don't make crossings without having jacklines in place BEFORE things get dicey.
YES. YES! this is what I've been looking for! I'm looking at so many boats for when we (early) retire, and I want to know we can cross oceans, those are the conditions I'm wanting to know a boat can handle! now I must look at NEIL boats and see if they are something we will get... thank you for the awesome documentary.

A boat builder tells me that a number of multis are turning up here in New Zealand with delaminating under decks and movement in the attachment points. I'll stick with my elderly timber monohull but its lots of fun going like the clappers in a multi.
I've been in similar conditions - twice - off the west coast of the U.S. 40 - 50 knt winds, waves about 4 - 5 meters. You are correct, the video does not do it justice! (begin edit) Also - it's rather nerve-wracking when you're hove-to in those kinds of conditions, during a pitch-black night! (end edit) Thanks for sharing! Stay safe!
We got caught out between cherbourg and Brighton in a f9 wind over tide. The way those waves built up so steep and short, like a two story house as we viewed them from the trough. We got knocked right over on our stbd beams right over. 90 degrees and we were looking down into the green depths through the pilot house window. It was night then. We basically spent 18hours getting slapped on our ears, one to the other. Moral: if it says Plus de Vent in cherbourg just wait it out. "I need to be back for work" just isn't worth the risk. I quite liked it. But it was stupid. Brighton looked like the maw of hell so we were directed to Newhaven. Good call.
Well, there's only one Neel 50 apparently, and you're looking at it So, no one outside this channel ever reviewed this boat. The Neel 51, which is the production model unlike this prototype, is what most people are familiar with. It's a completely different yacht. About the only thing they have in common is they're both made by Neel and are trimarans. That said, you can expect similar handling and performance from all the Neel line of yachts. I'm eagerly awaiting a review of the new Neel 52..
@@pecopeco5907 It's much better now than when this prototype was constructed. I expect it to improve further when the new 52 is completed. We'll soon see.
E outra nao precisa ficar com medo do Lula e nem do Putin , porque voces gostam é de dinheiro , e dinheiro voces vao ter. Entao prepara , porque vai beijar os pés do Lula , é isso que vai acontecer . I’ve never been sailing on the ocean, only on one of the finger lakes… I’d love to think I’d be nothing but excited if I was on that boat with you but I think without experiencing it firsthand it’s impossible to understand. Y’all are absolute studs out there, so calm and confident. New Sub, can’t wait to catch up on your videos

God bless ya there really wasn't much more you could do besides stick to a game plan and don't let your guard rest it's Inspiring to see you out there in such conditions.
At that point I would say it depends on the operator and the choice of course, sails, etc. Both give you the speed to position yourself in relation to the system in such way as to end up on broad reach or quartering tailwind. It is the best, stable, safe, and reasonably comfortable point of sail even in 50+ knots winds as we have experienced few times. If you were to try to sail into such winds it would be a death wish with such boat. Having said all that I like the added stability/beam of the tri vs. cat. Thanks for a good question. Cheers. B
@@sailoceans Thank you so much for your reply. I’m working for few years now on Tristan da Cunha island. We have some sailboats passing by. The sea can be incredibly rough. Often the boats are coming from South America on their way to Cape Town.
@@sailoceans thank you very much for your answer. I have been working on Tristan da Cunha island for the past 7 years. Often rough seas. I saw few sailboats coming back from South America heading towards Cape Town. But very few Trimarans.
The Neal is an odd one. More like a three hull catamaran, in that all three hulls are in the water most of the time. Most tris fly the windward hull. A lot of recent large cats have a relatively narrow overall beam (easier for docking), which makes then less stable than a tri with a larger beam. Overall beam is perhaps the critical factor. Apparently a rough rule is that it takes a wave of three times the beam to turn over a boat lying a hull.
We don't always avoid heavy wind. If we can position ourselves on the "right" side of the upcoming low we often go for it rather than wait until it passes. It is surprisingly comfortable and stable ride in rather serious conditions sometimes, when you keep the wind between beam reach and downwind. Cheers mate. B
Very exciting, your strong wind trip. You have pulled in the fishing rod, but the towels are not dry ,-) I have a question: With which software did you simulate the wind forecast and your ship position? Thank you.
HalleluYAH YAH Most High was with you through the storms and even blessed you with a beautiful rainbow, his sign to all mankind that he'd never again flood the earth as he did in ancient days.
High teens. I think we hit 20 once or twice, but we were generally very conservative. Breaking something this far out on the ocean can be a real problem. Cheers mate. Bartek
20 is much to high for this kind of boat . I’ll be very careful and slow down, but you guys are so young so is understandable to fly ( Mr. Captain). After refitting is ok, but before is scary ( to me ).👍
@@jacekcentkowski979 how would you consider much too high for this boat and for these conditions (that includes wave height, period, direction, wind, crew condition and expertise, boat condition)?
Cool video. The old rule; wind doesn't brake boats, waves do. A lot of sailors underestimate the wave conditions after a big low, and think they have an easy ride on the tail end. Sometimes it is better to just park and wait it out, and get ahead at the next system. That requires not being on a shedule.
On average for about 2 days, and for few hours 40 gusting to just under 50. Pretty much about 5 knots above forecast, so all in all no surprise. Cheers mate. Bartek
I have been in conditions like this twice. Once off the Columbia coast on the way to Panama (40kts for two days straight) and once on the way to New Zealand (40 kts gusting 50kts for a day or so). Enjoyable memories after the fact :) ….. Agree that photos or videos don’t do it justice. I have done it in a 30 foot heavy steel boat. It would be interesting to experience it on a multihull. I felt quite safe because my boat was built like a tank but I could not outsail anything. If you can sail away with 18 kts from a gale then 40 kts only feels like 22kts…..
50 knot winds and corresponding waves amount to less than 1% of statistical conditions in this general area/season. We are delighted to meet you as it is very hard to encounter tougher conditions not to mention sail into them consciously and controlably. Needless to say, I am super curious about your experiences that put 50 knots into category of "nothing" for you. Please do share. Cheers. B
