After Kurdt & Kirk changed their band name "Tyr" to "The Lewd" in 1977. They became Seattle's first Punk band. Then they moved to San Francisco in 1979. Guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof later left and moved back to Seattle to start a Heavy Metal band called "Metal Church".
Fantastic job Vinyl Rich per usual. As a Bostonian so great to see SSDecontrol on here. They exploded here and led the charge. Loved seeing TSOL too. Thoughts on Agent Orange first album or Flesheaters? So much great stuff. You have an incredible collection. Memories! Appreciate your content.
Great video. T.S.O.L. Yes! Love that Offspring album! I paused your video to go check out that Fireballs Of Freedom album, didn't know them at all. Killer! Going on my list. Thanks. Cheers
You are correct as usual Richie, the Punchline was the first full album by the Minutemen. I do like the early 80s Sonic Youth but I like a little melody with the music. No Replacements or maybe they were the first 50 or I just totally missed it. Impressive punk collection
Great stack of records, I’ll have to check out R.m.f and Iss those are new to me. Thank your for the mention, as long as you keep doing these type of videos I’ll tag along if I can lol I couldn’t agree more with you when it comes to Dr Know
Great set of videos Rich celebrating punk in its many forms. So glad you included 'Zen Arcade'. That album is a hands down masterpiece. It is always interesting to consider the origins of punk. It can be traced back to 50s rockabilly and the British beat and freakbeat bands, along with all those US 60s garage groups that followed. The Stooges pulled it all together and then came everything else. Love the Television and Richard Hell albums and all the mind blowing hardcore. So good! Also, love the t-shirt.
Hmmm, I agree with you regarding the possible embryonic start of punk (Max's Kansas City, CBGB's etc.). Like you said, here in the U.K. there was "pub rock" which had some of those 60's garage/punk leanings with some bands, and the first "punk-style" records I heard, were by bands like Eddie & The Hot Rods and Dr. Feelgood. Two of the earliest 45's I remember hearing, and buying back then, were, The Damned's "New Rose", and The Saints' "(I'm) Stranded". I think Richard Hell's debut album had an artsy tinge to it, but you can't beat his "Another World" EP! Oh..., don't forget, Marc Bell started out with power-rock trio Dust in the early 70's, whose debut album, in particular, is pretty heavy rock with some killer drumming from Marc.
@@vinylrichie007 Yer right, but it was after all a different musical style. Listen to Dust's "Love Me Hard", he's letting rip, and there's a definite Blue Cheer heaviness to the song. Check out this mini-doc, (7min), by Markey on the history of Dust. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cgw7HBA84xo.html
You should check out defunct band from Sacramento called RAD, their only full length is about 14 minutes long and really good. They changed their name to Slow Burn after the drummer left, they are good but that RAD album is sick. Did you mention Sin 34 or Condemned to Death in your first video. If not those records are good also.
AGNOSTIC FRONT "Victim in Pain", The CRO-MAGS "The Age of Quarrel", MURPHY'S LAW "S/T" and WARZONE, "Don't Forget the Struggle, Don't Forget the Streets".
I don’t have Victim In Pain. I do have Cause For Alarm. Age Of Quarrel was in the first video. I don’t have Don’t Forget The Struggle. I do have Open Your Eyes.

Hey bud, got here from joaquim's vids. Im looking for something and maybe u can help. U know there was an explosion of bands all over the world in 76-81ish and im from california so seeing all the bands all over the country from the era is awe inspiring. Ive found a large gap in califonia tho. LA has loads of bands, Orange County has bands, central california has bands, the bay area has bands, sacramento has bands... After that theres nothing till oregon. Wtf? Chico had A band. 1. Called The Agentz. But humbolt county has NO BANDS from that era??? Theres a large chunk of northern califonia thats drawing blanks... I refuse to believe that. Do u know of any northern california bands? Obviously it would be obscure stuff. Ive found 3 or 4 possibilities. The Twinkies, Atlernative Learning, ESP, Mortal Men. But i think the twinkies became esp and im not sure if theyre even from north of Davis CA. Help! If u can.
Smash and Dookie were huge in my neighborhood. I remember the spoiled kid across the street had the CD's and well all copied them to tape. Even the cholos like those albums.
@@vinylrichie007 Pop Punk / Power Pop artist from NY. He was the leader of the collective Bomb The Music Industry. I think all of his albums are worth listening. I recommend the latest Hellmode from last year. Would like to hear your take on his music.
Dr. Know/Kyle Toucher! Nardcore legends.great band, Kyle an underrated vocalist/lead guitarist, went off to do VFX, an author etc etc. but unfortunately overshadowed by the child actor from Eddies Father Getting Married or whatever and the parading around that he does and Slayer's cover of Mr. Freeze.
I gotta find that suicide commandos record, same with that first red Kross. Do you have any dead moon records? The singer Fred Cole was in the lollipop shop/the weeds but the first dead moon album is like 1988. Glad you dig girl Trouble, I’m in Tacoma Washington but Portland is cool too haha
Cleveland: Electric Ees 72, Pere Ubu 1975 and Dead boys 76 seem to predate NYC. Regardless I fully agree that Punk Rock is an American invention. Maybe UK invented the Mohawk, whatever they can have dat 😮😮
VR - Iain is hosting 10 compilation albums this Thursday at 12 Pacific. I thought you might have plenty to show. It's up to 10 so bring your best. Looking forward to speaking with you if you opt to join.
Again, you value punk attitude much more than I do so IMO Dictators , Talking Heads and Television are not punk, judging by the music which i value WAY over attitude. And actually, the Richard Hell and the Voidoids LP has only a few pure punk songs . The Soft Boys are not punk either Suicide Commandos is a great album. MDC could be one of the 20 greatest HC albums. Was lucky enough to hang out with them here in NYC. in their van. Very liberal lyrics, on a par with Dead Kennedys. You get the idea. Great guitar playing by Ron Posner. Sonic Youth is not a punk band Crucifix Dehumanization is a tremendous record. Socially conscious lyrics and GREAT singing and playing. A must for any HC collection. That Bad Religion debut would be in my 25 all time best punk albums. Love those guys!! Super intelligent lyrics and super great playing. IMO they had MANY excellent albums after this debut. Check out some albums after Zen Arcade too. New Day Rising is their best album and Flip Your Wig is excellent too. You have to go beyond Zen Arcade which is too inflated and self indulgent . Would have been better as a single LP. Then it would have been all time great. That Youth of Today is a GREAT LP and the singer Ray Cappo is a terrific singer YEOW!!...lol.... Blistering NYHC at its best. BTW that Bad Religion LP is from 1982 not 84 Last of all what is it going to take to make all those British wankers, including Johnny Lydon, stop saying punk began in England? The truth doesn't seem to be enough. (No, I am not the punk police. Don't pin that on me, Punky Brewster)) Excellent post, my friend You know your punk!
