i asked a local sheriff about the legality of my old rad runner. i told him it can go up to 20(ish). He said as long as i wasn't going through peoples yards or doing dumb stuff with it, it shouldn't be an issue. that was a few years ago, (i now have a hyperscrambler 2 and haven't been flagged down by any law enforcement yet) but would imagine that it's largely the same deal. but it all depends on the area your in and how the LEO's are about these things. just please be safe and smart. i really don't want harsh regulation coming down because of a few bad actors.
unfortunately the situation is quite different between a legal class 2 bike that is considered just like any pedal bike under most regulations and a 50mph scooter that is neither classified as a bike , a scooter or a moped under any regulation and is either plain illegal or at best considered a motorcycle, which honestly it is. US are missing a less restrictive 125cc motorcycle license (legal in Europe with car driving license and only requiring a 7h class if you already rode a 125cc before the class became mandatory) which those fast scooters and mopeds could fall under one officer might give you the same answer but if you get into any accident you might be in big trouble and even without accident any cop could decide to ticket you and/or impound the vehicle..
Cop's are usually complete idiots. They typically don't know anything about law, which is insane considering that it's their jobs to enforce it. If you actually want sound legal advice, consult a licensed attorney. Also in the fast majority of states it's illegal to give legal advice without a license. So chances are that sheriff's deputy you mentioned committed a criminal act but was too stupid to realize it. If you can not afford legal advice, You can look up state statutes on your state's legislative website. but I recommend watching a video or 2 about how to read and interpret legal text before going through the statutes.
With a full battery and a slight downhill I have hit 57MPH GPS. I love my RR Pro! its just so easy and fun to ride fast!! I have owned mine since first batch. Voro Motors is very quick to respond to any issues with their products and have already updated a few things. Excellent little machine. It definitely turns heads and begs people to ask you questions about it!
You have my 49cc Honda Ruckus beat, it is well tuned, does 46-47 mph on a flat road and I’ve done gps confirmed 53 mph down hill. This e-bike looks very interesting to me. I am even more concerned about someone picking it up and stealing it though. My Honda weighs 180 lb’s and it is a concern while parked.
Have you gone off road with it much? Specifically on maintained forest trails, I have a stand up scooter and I have a lot of trails like that near where I live and it's my favorite place to ride. If I'm gonna spend this much on something I'm gonna need it to be okay on some dirt and gravel.
@@ShardstapoRotmg the awd or 2 wheel drive it has must help it with gaining a advantage with traction. With different, off road tires it would be even better. The suspension on it seems fairly limited though.
Glad to see you had a chance to check it out Micah. I was curious what you'd think, since I know you've spent a lot of time on larger e-motos. -Paul from RiderGuide
Got my regular Roadrunner up to 41 today on a wide open paved “bike highway” today, so great. And I sometimes regret not getting the pro for the option of even more speed but then I might not feel right taking it onto all the same paths. Like they say, it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.
I would love to have the First Gen Roadrunner. I have a Jetson haze that fly's down the sidewalk at a whopping 16mph. I would hurt myself on the RR. Stay Safe my Man.
So many questions. Is it ip rated for rain? How portable would it be on public transit like light rail? Would it hang on a regular bike hook (vertical)
No it’s not ip rated to rain. And it’s most defo not portable it weighs 52kg, if you want something portable the original roadrunner is the best option
Seated scooters are pretty much legal everywhere as long as they don't exceed any ride share scooter of like 18-20mph (350watts). It's definitely use at your own risk, or how lax your city is.
This is almost exactly the kind of thing i've thought about when imagining my dream vehicle for going longer distances, it's just a supremely juiced up e-bike that can go fast and go far. It's kinda just objectively the ideal personal transport vehicle, though of course a regular bicycle has its place too.
yeah bikes are great but the average fitness level, extreme wether in some states, distances people are driving every day, and the safety on a bike are obstacles for many people. riding only a bike is possible but usually means changing your lifestyle unless you live in a big city with everything within 10 miles radius
@@geemy9675 eh most of the things you list aren't actually dealbreakers for the vast majority of people, they're just excuses people come up with. In the end most people live in urban areas with most amenities available, it's at least possible to *mostly* rely on a bike. And, of course, most people don't live in america. Here in sweden it's quite trivial for 80% of the population to live without a car at all, my mom only owned a car for like 5 years (which didn't actually benefit her in any way) and my dad recently sold his and has repeatedly told me how switching to an e-bike was the best thing he ever did.
Great review! I would love to a see a review of a high powered alternative to the Aventon Soltera. I feel like the there is a lack of sleek, high powered e bicycles out there.
"It's fun as hell"??? Hell is far from fun buddy! Accept Jesus Christ & Repent before it's too late. For the Kingdom of God is at hand. Our time is short. Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to Heaven. Without Jesus Christ expect hell🔥You've been warned! John 3:3
I love mine! The amount of fun packed into this thing for the price makes it seem like a bargain. The grey legal area was partially why I pulled the trigger, who knows if these will always be available indefinitely due to the speed and overall rowdiness.
I love all these powerful bikes, but with any high ticket purchase like all these bikes go your ok as long as the battery is OK, if that battery fails your on the end of a thousand bucks and some for a new one and these ebike batteries do fail, its something to think about, i doubt they offer an 8 year warranty like most car companies do, great little bike but the stripped down 34mph version of this they sell is probably all most people need and its half the price of this.
It's exasperating that companies keep making these fast bikes that don't qualify as e-bikes, but don't bother to meet DOT requirements so they can be registered as motorcycles. I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a cool bike that the police can hypothetically confiscate any time due to its lack of registration. 🤦 This has kept me from even considering buying a bunch of cool bikes like this (or Onyx, etc.). Just get VIN numbers and add the turn signals, it can't be that hard.
Same here. I would love to commute super fast on something like this. Just making them look like a normal bike would be enough to not get harassed by cops, but instead they make them look illegal
It's not hard but it would certainly be more expensive. DOT requires more than a VIN and signals. Third-party testing and certifications are required for a manufacturer to sell a highway capable vehicle and that's not cheap. It's often part of the reason new companies fail.
Well they aren’t for people such as yourself their for people who needa commute not ur leisurely fun fuk we need vin numbers and registration for no police is stopping you as long as you’re not overdoing it and driving where you shouldn’t be
The bike lane is where this belong. Cars go 120 plus howver we do not only drive them on a race track right. so If people can not draw attention by being reckless then we should be able to use this to commute to work for people whom dont have, want or need a license ....after all we are losing resources from pollution.
i went on the website and it said 20mph out of the box but the unlocked speed is 50mph what does it mean by unlocked speed do i need a better motor cuz im confused
I wish you had some confidence riding an electric over 28 MPH. I loved your videos but I have to find another channel where the rider is not afraid to go over 28 mph. This is the first channel I’ve ever had to unsubscribe. Wish u the best.
I hope people are responsible with them cause i don't want them regulated, these things are perfects to go around the city especially in bike lanes if you slow down a bit
I have one of these scooters and it is amazing the only problem is is Vora motors as a company sucks I placed an order it took more than 3 months to get me half of my order than the other half of my order was canceled and refunded and nobody had any information any time I called it I would suggest going to segway which is another company that I have done business with it actually hiddle things correctly
Is there an Off RoadRunner version? Split rim hubs were mentioned. I used to have a pickup truck with split rims and it was a nightmare getting tires mounted on the split rims - is this the same or not a factor?
@@tmurphy0919 I agree. When these "Super 73-type" bikes were first being produced I wondered who the customers would be, but now I see kids riding them all over the place. Eventually the situation will require regulation.
OMG. I love the Road Runner Pro. I have been trying to set aside a day to visit Voro Motors in NYC to see one in person. As far as legality I feel it falls into the class of a 50cc moped. So just keep it below 40 mph and off bike paths you are a doing a good faith effort at staying legal.
@@mrc1436 In Connecticut you can ride a 49 cc moped legally on the street. No registration or insurance but you need a driver's license. A lot of folks buy 125cc and 150cc bikes and put 50cc stickers on them.
I hope Micah reads this. I wish you would consider eBikes under 100 lbs to be OK as "not HEAVY". I wanted to comment before when you stated 70 and 80 lb bikes are "heavy". Robust people like myself want the bike to weigh at least 100 lbs but less than 150 lbs. That is the sweet spot and much lighter than my first dirt bike which weighed approximately 230-245Lbs. and I was in 8th grade when I was less than 5 feet tall at that time. Thanx !
Well, 4000 watts of power basically equals motorcycle level. So I think you need motorcycle license. The law says anything over 50cc or over 2.7HP, or over 2000 watts of power is basically motorcycle level instead of moped/scooter.
Great review but we’re I am staying now this is not a bicycle or scooter and can’t be registered as moped or motorcycle. More details on the split rims would be nice.
Tubeless tires and split rims. There are also connectors on the motor cables to make tire changes super easy! The rims are held together with allen head bolts and there is an internal seal. Voro Motors has been developing this spit rim design for several years an it's amazing.
This is really cool but the cops are going to call this a e-motorcycle because it has no pedals and a chain so you will have to register it and license it but if this has no vin # you will not be able to register it and you will get tickets in till you loose your license and get the bike towed !!!!!!!!
I love this thing but it doesn’t have pedals so in most cities this will not be allowed as soon as they start cracking down. It’s a bummer they should create a category for these but as long as it doesn’t have a vin a 50 mph or anything over 40mph will probably not be allowed on roads and definitely not in bike lanes
@@jamesbarry2388 I know that, James I’m a dealer In most states electric vehicles that go over 20 mph will be considered a motor cycle and have to have a real VIN. This does not so without pedals it’s not legal on the road or on the bike lanes
@Sachi K How do you like it thus far? The range to me is to low also the shocks aren't adjustable and the rear bottoms out I've read.Have you made any upgrades or know if the new batch has any improvements?
@@shanew7361 range to me is no big deal because im purely using this as a recreational toy more than anything rather than a thing to use to commute on, but for toy purposes i did purchase new shocks for the rear suspension to make it more adjustable, not a bad upgrade for 50 bucks. just gotta find the right measurement for it. I got the pair from watching GingerOnWheels on his review/unboxing on the scooter. I dont know about any batch improvements, all i have to say is that im keeping an eye out on the extra battery when it comes to their warehouse sometime soon.
@@shanew7361 in all honesty though the rear shocks are perfectly fine for roads with potholes in it, especially coming from a place like philly where roads are secondary priority for some reason, im just upgrading the shocks so i can jump curbs with less stress, and also for dirt trails just for a little more stability.
Where I live because this is a "scooter" and lacks pedals you would need a driver's license of any class to ride this on public roads. It doesn't have to be registered or carry a license plate. You can't ride on roads with a posted speed limit higher than 25mph, unless there is a bike lane in which case you are required to ride in the bike lane. You aren't allowed to go faster than 15mph on public roads, can't ride on the sidewalk and have to wear a moto helmet. Ironic that it was designed in California but you basically cant ride it here in public.. lol
I would say if you can keep up with traffic, then it's a motorcycle. Bike lanes should only be for pedestrian bike riders. Don't ride a motorcycle in the bike lane because you want to be "THAT PERSON" trying to beat traffic thinking you're above everyone else
Because you got an e-scooter that can go 40 doesn't make you think that you're above everyone else, lol. People can remove the speed limiter on their e-bikes, & hit 40 easily with 750 watts with pedal assist. No reason to put those type of motors on e-bikes anyway, if you can't get your money's worth. Hitting 30 is easy on just about every e-bike on the market
@@Brandon-cs8gw I don't need to go 50mph. I want range. Making e-scooters faster is just an excuse for people not to get a license, registration, or insurance. Part of riding a bike/ebike is the adventure. Let alone it's hard enough for people to see motorcycles, now you're going silent
This should be registered, insured and the operator needs to be licensed, any pretense that this is some type of e bike is preposterous. I can see someone just add fake pedals to make it appear to be an e bike
@@Brandon-cs8gw depends on the cop ( if he feels like being a dick, you’re getting a ticket 😂 )..this thing ain’t street legal w/o registration ,tags and insurance dude
The Rukus takes like 30 seconds to reach 40mph. This is what 6 seconds to hit the same? The Honda has insane range for being 1 gallon and you can fill it up and be back riding in 30 seconds. But even with mods it’s still not going to be quick. The fact it can be registered and street legal is a big plus. But this has crazy acceleration. I was looking at the Rukus but it’s just to puttputt, riding something that takes half a minute to reach 40mph on the street with cars would be a death wish here in So Cal. Lol While not legal this would be worlds better when riding with inpatient cars.
@@demonhunter-skydomeatlanti1746 Because it goes over 30mph it would have to be registered as a motorcycle in Florida, according to their laws. But it cant be registered as a motorcycle without a vin. So while its technically not illegal, you cant register it. And you cant legally drive it unregistered. Good luck!
@@demonhunter-skydomeatlanti1746 Some parts of Florida the police will bother you. I've seen people take them away from people and they had to go to court to get it back. So yes they are illegal in some places in florida
