fuel pump lost its head. sometimes you have to put a little bit of air pressure in the gas tank to push fuel to the pump otherwise you have to crank a long time to get fuel flowing to where it needs to. The fuel pump having a dried up diaphragm with holes in it maybe would have reduced pressure. runs at idle but wont accelerate. When I went to tech school, GM was still offering breaker point ignitions as OEM.
I cleaned the carb out, filled the fuel bowl with gas pressurized the tank like you say and she fired right up.I think I screwed up something on a passage bleed plug on top of the carb and it's sucking air there.leans it out off idle.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Hevy you can't sell the Old Olds! I love that car. Now not that it matters what the heck I think, but its awesome and the monthly payments are really good! Think of all the good times you have had in it....camping, touring with other old cars......driving....and stuff!

im an old dawg.. but I wont lay on the porch too long.. im already out running around in the hoopie workin on irrigation and stuff.. just nice to be home for a few hours. :)
