bit.ly/3WZSCqZ The solar battle is never ending with cloudy days, and having to use a generator for backup. There might be more questions than answers but I try my best to put some harsh realities into perspective🤗 We definitely will be adding more solar panels!

Bring your gear to southern Arizona, major sunshine year around. I really enjoyed your candor BTW. I am "speccing" out a system at least 4,800 watts, for my two well pumps, for when the SHTF. Enjoyed you're sobering numbers.

@@MikeSheasheaDtree thankyou for the kind words !! Canadians love Arizona to be sure especially snowbirds! We definitely have sunshine envy 😎 Sounds like you’re getting your solar together nicely! SHTF is feeling very real these days 🙏🏻

The first thing I brought to my off grid solar property when I bought it was a large format, solar panel, charge, controller, and battery with an inverter. Every time I go to my property I bring four large 500 watt solar panels with me plus another charge controller and and 2 kWh’s of lithium batteries. I’m a coffee all the time I always cook with my electricity on my stove top burner and I have a toaster and the toaster oven and not to mention the beer fridge . No matter what I’m gonna have cold beer in the bush. All it takes is a little more equipment . In fact, the last time I went up north, I brought my dad‘s electric car and I charged it partially from excess solar energy. Level one charger only. Solar panels are very cheap nowadays not like the old days

Sounds amazing thanks for sharing! We made the mistake of increasing the batteries first lol definitely like that idea of bringing more each time you go! Sounds like you are ready for any shtf! We are scaling slowly but getting there too! The fridge is cold ! so is the beers 😆, actually the fridge that came with the 12wide is actually pretty decent for power and we did get off grid appliances prior to deciding to haul it up. I’m amazed at the efficiency (it’s better than the starlink!) Hubs does use the toaster , it’s just one of those things that glares “need more panels” that until you use things you don’t fully appreciate how much power we used in the city. So until we get more panels we are “glamping” until then! I’m thankful to be in a position where we could do this now, but we aren’t rollin in the dough..we are trying to count the nickles and make smart increases as time goes on. 😊

The tractor is worth it, plus you can always get jobs with it if you need extra cash. I went with a larger system; I can run my 1800w microwave for 26hrs off the battery before I run out of battery. Super simple set up, over 1300w pv(edit old inverter was faulty display) through clouds, my panels are vertical I clean the panels once a year snow won't stick. My trailer is 100% electric including heat and survive to -30c, I haven't used the generator since March and just wiring up another string of 3.3 kw since last year was 30 hours of sun over 120 days. 8kw power, 12kw solar and 48kw battery makes it very possible. Just in case I have 2 generators and 200kw worth of propane ready to burn. If you live in BC up to $10000 in solar rebates. With rebate and 15k, enough solar to run a small cabin with a 5000w dryer.

@offgridgrizzly Месяц назад
That is amazing!! Yes other provinces have so many more rebates, we dont sadly! 100K that is awesome!! We plan to get another string to match from Cabin Depot so the panels are all the same, (so that we can eventually run some things ;) For now though I try to keep us from not running the genny! Your system sounds like a beast! We havent put a well in yet, so we have just been ramping it all slowly. Our province really needs to get on the rebate program!! Thank you for sharing, we have solar envy now!

@@offgridgrizzly I got my 550w panels for 220 each from solaronline in Calgary, 22500 CAD 10KW 240v inverter, 11kw solar and 57kw battery. With full overcast 3200w of power. Winter solstice sun and snow, 13+kw. 1800W microwave run for 30 hours on a charge. Easy to hook up, my solar build video has pics.

@@bobmonztrI need to check that out thankyou! The shipping charge to ontario might make a difference, the shipping from NB wasn’t too bad and sometimes we’ve been able to get free shipping. I will compare for sure thankyou ! (I missed this !)😊

I think it all depends on where you live. I’ve been experimenting with small solar here in Ohio and I can tell you that July only produced about 50% of my solar ratting. Any clouds (even partial) destroys solar output. Not to mention heat has an impact as well. With that being said, I will admit my panels are not the best (I found 2 of them were bad). The bottom line is please go with a larger array of quality Bifacial panels. That way you get something even with cloud cover..
@offgridgrizzly
@offgridgrizzly Месяц назад
thankyou for sharing I completely agree! We didn’t want to spend a huge amount at first either so we have scaled slowly. We will be getting more panels for sure to match. We get beautiful sun in the summer but the lake effects from the great lakes we also get clouds. We have to also remove more trees which was the plan anyhow for winter time, the angle of the sun gets cut off by the huge pine trees it’s a process but we are slowly getting there 😊

How many backup batteries for your Ecoflow? You can also use the panels you are standing near.If you have 14 kw you need more panels to power them.
@offgridgrizzly
@offgridgrizzly Месяц назад
@@keithjansen1734 Yes that is the plan, the original extra panels we had I think didn’t match the amp and I was only able to connect 2, but will keep them separate now that I have to have a separate input for the dual voltage (if that makes sense?) We should have got more solar panels before doubling the battery!$$ so I did it backwards lol We have 2 extra batteries and the additional unit for dual voltage just got the 214 error and I have to send it back for repair. It has a 60month warranty so ✔️

No joke. I got on a kick for about a year making coffee in a old antique percolator because used less coffee grounds and tasted better. And the sound reminded me of my youth.

@offgridgrizzly Месяц назад
@@tentman4fun Exactly , we camped for the first couple of years and then when we hauled the cabin up we tested the appliances that were in it. I think some people might not realize how much power little appliance use so you need a bigger system if you want to use them lol plus, When I saw the old couple with a 1.8kw system, it is impossible with everything they used!😂

@@dgc940 Yes we use our old blue camping percolator to make coffee but the inside broke, so we do pour over or the french press. My husband doesn’t like the french press bc of cleaning it lol
