No one was used and abused more than Judy Garland. Her mother, Ethel, an ambitious stage mother, put her on “pep pills” at a very young age. MGM gave her Benzedrine for energy and weight control and Seconal to put her to sleep. Judy was body shamed and called a “little hunchback.” Judy didn’t stand a chance.
I think bleeping words like "sexuality" and "sex-life" is stupid and wrong - those aren't even forbidden words. What's offensive is the bleeping itself, most especially when it's unnecessary
@@vanapirarayne738 🤣🤣. I thought the computers were the ones doing the talking and humans bleeped out words that are tossed around everyday? Still stupid.
The Green Promise was the movie that caused Natalie Wood to be gravely afraid of water, due to the scene where the bridge collapsed under her feet; she broke her wrist and nearly drowned. Natalie was not supposed to be on the bridge when it collapsed. The director kept filming during the accident and kept it in the movie.
Her mother believed in psychics. They told her Natalie would be very famous but also that she had to be very very careful around water and drowning. She was petrified of water because her mother told her this. The water event did happen but Natalie was already afraid of water when it happened. Read autobiographies or google it 😢
Her mother refused to get her broken wrist set, too, and it healed wrong, with a bump. Natalie spent the rest of her life covering that wrist up with large bracelets.
that still do even today, they put on a fake show to convince you they have changed, they havent, they just change who ever in in charge and the abuse continues
I could never have been in show biz because I am my own boss and I like to eat and do not care that at age 64 I gained weight and am chunky, also I choose who I am with and not. When there was a problem I nipped it in the bud or moved on. It upsets to hear so much people abuse. RIP to all who have passed that received abuse. All are in my heart 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️👏👏💕💕💕💕💕Holly 🙏
You should have mentioned that Clark Gable came to Hattie McDaniels' defense when she attended the Oscar ceremonies in 1940. They didn't want her to attend at all. Gable told them that if they didn't allow her to attend, he wouldn't go so they relented. Clara Bow's name was spelled like this---not Bo. She also had a very thick NY accent that the studios didn't like. Valentino had peritonitis. Don't you people do any homework? It's ALL on the internet.
She also suffered female issues which were severe. Not only did she have severe endometriosis so bad she had it written into her contracts she did not have to perform during her periods, she also had an ectopic pregnancy which required surgery to remove. Those women who have suffered from endometriosis can appreciate her acting/working with this extremely painful condition. Her life certainly was not the glamour and glitz we saw on the movie screen.
@@RhondaBitler I am so very sorry! One of the worst things about it is the lack of knowledge about it. It should be part of our health education in school so girls and women know it's not part of normal menstrual cycles. So many women endure this unnecessary pain because of ignorance and part of that is of the very doctors who treat them!
Yep! You'd think a person too busy to do the voice over could at least check the computers work mangling all the words in countless RU-vid videos. Bravo, for noticing. This computer generated voice over and subtitle craze often comes up with some very hilarious pronunciations of very common words or names. As I said, before publishing the finished product a human should review the computers work.
But "chic" is just the French spelling and pronunciation of "sheik." French borrowed it, altering the spelling and the meaning, then English borrowed it back.
You may think things in Hollywood have changed, but the truth is there just as decrepit as always, powerful, greedy, and it's still their way of the highway, and even more political than ever...!!
If you mention racial prejudice, you over looked Anna May Wong. Asians are still marginalized and discriminated against. Roles for Asians in Hollywood was scarce. She only got stereotyped Asian roles. Hollywood pick Katherine Hepburn over May Wong to play a Chinese woman in the Good Earth. The Chinese community resented her for misrepresenting her own people in the roles she acted in.
I imagine that it was intimidating for actors being forced to preform against their wills. But at no time should any actor should’ve let this happen. They should have quit or walked out! No amount of $$ or fame is more important than self respect n honor.
You lose me when you just use stock footage pictures that don’t relate to what you’re talking about and mix them in and then show actors who you are not talking about while you’re talking about someone else. Poorly edited.
Tippi Hedren was also treated badly by Alfred Hitchcock. Working for him was wearing her out because the roles were so challenging. He told her that if she broke her contract, he'd make sure she would never work again. She did, and then he did.
All I have learned is that Hollywood is superficial, and despicable. I have tremendous respect for tjose celebrities that spoke out against Hollywood's disgusting standards....
I love the Pink Powder Puff comment. Why is there a sign with Mary Pickford's name on it? Was she that guy's mother? Those subtitles need proof reading. What is pluratis? Pleuritis? That was one among many weird spelling errors. Computers, kick your human programmers!
I clicked on this by mistake, but I'll let it roll. This kind of subject hits to close to home as my mother was a friend of both Judy Garland and Natalie Wood. I was only 5 yrs old when Judy died, but I will never forget how it hit mumzie. The Old Man told me then that one day I would understand, but it's not right. He was correct
The real question is what do struggling actors/actresses have to do to even break into show business? I'm under the impression that those who control the checkbook require certain favors--Harvey Weinstein comes to mind. Not sure fame and fortune is worth having to participate in the filth that permiates Hollywood.
I’m sorry but I really dislike Loretta Young at cutting Gable out of her child’s life. That girl didn’t find out who her father was until she pressed her mother about it before she herself was to marry. She wanted to feel complete before she married and Loretta finally told her the truth. Gable was really hurt that he was cut out of her life. Loretta had the audacity to send him a note when the baby was born to tell him it was a girl. Really!? She wanted to hide the kid, cut him out, but smacked him in the face with that note, like, you will never know your kid but hey, it’s a girl. How cruel!!
"would have lost his career" - And rightly so... Read : Bible, Romans 1: 24-27 - - - - - "Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator - Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error"
The last example.....this was in a so called more modern time where abusing young women would have been less tolerated. Marlon Brando and a Director forced an actress to play a role she didn’t want?
I loved watching little Little Shirley Temple dance and sing 'The Good Ship Lollipop', but the Addams Family was my all-time favorite. I desperately wished I was Wednesday as a child. Back in the day, kids were much tougher than the marshmallows they are now, because there were many treacherous and abusive 'grownups' - even parents - who were just "taking care of the children." Poor Jackie Coogan. Do yourself a favor though, stop muting those horrible words like 'S-E-X' and you'll get a lot more viewers. We're not all twelve~
Oh my! She lifted weights for TEN WHOLE MINUTES a day. Oh the pain, the cruelty. Spinach salad for a cow? Who ever heard of salad. Talk about fake reporting.
You know these are horrible stories and should never have happened but the truth is each one of them could have said no and didn't they preferred the screen to whatever moral issue was being questioned
You were not there and don't know the details. Many of those women were literally r*aped, no consent given, and threatened if they talked. Some had veiled clauses in their contracts! Some of those contracts even carried fines if the women got pregnant!!!
Hattie McDaniels faced her criticism head on . When she was confronted with opposition. She retorted with . I would rather play a maid than be one. Why should I complain about making $700 a week playing a maid? If I didn’t I would be one making $7 a week. Now Hattie was earnings of $700 a week would be about $13,000 a week in today’s dollars.
Really??? Bleeping out the word SEX.. SEX isn't a bad word. SEX is just a word. So why do you bleep out the word SEX???SEX,SEX, SEX,SEX SEX SEX SEX SEX... This is bleeping bleeping bleeping bleeping bullshit...
WD Taylor is the one classic Hollywood mystery which still is haunting. It appears the deathbed confession of Margaret Gibson says she was the murderess. Too bad.
Six day workweeks and long workdays are normal for people who work for a living Including children on farms. The movie industry is nothing special in that regard.
Hollywood was crap back then and Hollywood is crap today. Just because they made good movies in yesteryears they think they have a saying in everything No, they don’t make any good movies nowadays that’s why I wrote yesteryears
The fake narrator in this piece sounds more like an actual human when you play it twice as fast. “He” actually put me to sleep at Normal speed. Incidentally, did you know there’s a Gene Kelly Stage at what used to be MGM Studio? There’s no Debbie Reynolds Stage. And yes, Louis B. Mayer was a jerk, as was Mickey Rooney. If you’re going to bleep words on one of these videos, try getting it on the damned word!
I heard they made her stand outside in the alleyway till it was time to go up to receive her statuette. Have we improved? We still have a long way to go. Margaret Hamilton also got burnt in a scene. Social media info.
They ruined people's lives What are you talking about made it hard They destroyed them Judy garland Look like she was 70Shem 100,000 she should 100,000 she should have sued them For turning Her addiction They killed her They killed a lot of people because of that.
Didn't Margaret Hamilton also get set on fire during the Wizard of Oz and they barely cared? And the original Tin Man had to drop out because his paint was metal based too and caused breathing problems? The Lion's costume was 90 lbs. and steaming hot because it was actual lion pelts? Am I remembering correctly? Sheesh, what torture... so not worth it. :(
Yes. The original actor cast as the tin man was Buddy Ebsen, when they were still looking at possibly putting Shirley Temple in as Dorthy Gale. Ebsen had been in another musical movie with Shirley, in 1938 called "Captain January" .
Re: the beep when the word "sex" is said and the dropping of the vowel "e" from "sex" in print is idiotic, yet allowing the word "gay" and the saying of LBQGHalphabet is nonsensical. Is this RU-vid being PC at the expense of 1st Amendment rights? Jeez. A video on actor's rights being denied then yet denying free speech regarding the word "sex."
During my 1962 senior year at high school, my English teacher was the former studio tutor for Shirley Temple & Baby Leroy when they were child actors.. From that wonderful teacher we learned alot about the studio tactics, especially how the they got the child actors to show the emotions needed for the film. She told us about a scene to be filmed which required Shirley Temple to cry. Shirley could fake a slight cry but the studio wanted more. To achieve real tears, they told the child her mother wasn't going to come after her after work. That upset Shirley, making her start to cry. They ran the cameras and told her to do her part with the tears. She did just that. Later, she was needed for more crying scenes. Knowing their tactic at her young age, she was reluctant. So, the studio just cranked up the lies to make her cry again. The studios have always been known for their manipulative, cruel, torturous, deceitful, & perverted tactics, while making & ruining the careers of many in the industry. And it continues today, even at the Disney Studios.
Judy Garland was talented even as a young child. When she approached adolescence she was a little pudgy but this was due to her body growing into a woman. The studio started giving her amphetamines forcing her body to lose weight. It also affected her sleep so they gave sleeping pills. They destroyed her. Once she was hooked she couldn’t stop. RIP Judy. You brought us so much joy. Your gifts will never be forgotten. Gif bless her.
All 12-year old girls were 'pudgy' back in the day. My mother bought my clothes in Sear's 'Chubby Girls' section, to my everlasting mortification, because I've always been skinny. It's so sad, they just wanted puppets to push and pull at their leisure, and the parents went along~
Tippi Hedren said Hitchcock told her he'd ruin her career if she didn't sleep with him. She said, "do what you gotta do" and left the room. Can't blame her much.
I'm skeptical of Tippi Hedren's claim. Hitchcock worked with hundreds of women, but no one else has made this claim, even after his death. Not saying she's lying. I'm just skeptical.
As I watched this I was overwhelmed with absolute rage for all those abused, and tortured women and girls. A handful of abused men and boys. And it still continues today, horrific
Yep, it seems that producers thought all the women were too fat, so it was uppers in the morning and downers in the evening for all of them. Judy garland was pressured to lose weight her entire life. She had a "round" face but she was NEVER overweight. She was forced to pop pills from a very early age and this of course led to a lifelong addiction, negative health issues and early death.
and they never even mentioned Francis Farmer; she was a smart outspoken woman who landed up having a lobotomy...obliterating her personality...because they wanted her to "behave"
Merle Oberon was so beautiful and mesmerizing. She was an actress who did not need to say a word. Just the look on her face did it all. I can see why a man 25 years her junior would marry her in her later years. She was still spellbinding.
