Sad to see so many beautiful buildings replaced by faceless slabs of concrete. 😢

I love seeing photos like this. The photos where the buildings have been torn down aren’t terribly interesting because I could find numerous examples like those in my own city. For me, the fascination is about the fact that a structure has survived the passage of time and is still recognizable even when the landscape around it has changed. That’s not an every day thing by any means. Great video though 👍🏻👏🏻

Before going to Berlin in 2003 I found a photo of the badly-damaged Reichstag from 1945 and when I got there I took photos from the exact same spot. In the absence of photo editing software it took quite a few shots til I finally got the one at the exact same angle and the exact same amount of background. They’re framed now and I love them

Central Michigan Station in Detroit has now been renovated and has just reopened (2024). It is magnificent. I believe the Ford Motor Company paid for it.

The photos of Buenos Aires looks impossible. From a river to a street? And the Fotomat pictures look like they need to be switched. Other than that, absolutely great pictures.

These are amazing but so sad to see that Americans have so little regard for preserving historical buildings. The UK and other places, progress has happened but they preserve the buildings much more than we do. Some cities have done better than others but horrifyingly dreadful plain ugly building have been built where stunning others have stood.

It’s sickening what this nation has become because of sin!

Reinforcement of what occurs to once stately buildings, the old railroad terminal waiting rooms, denigration into. Due to the low type of people that move into the area cause. Some people are sadly trash and reflect their slothful and self-disrespect onto their surroundings and neighborhoods. This is the reason for monied flight. Who wants to live amongst this detritus of society?

You're wrong on this one. Detroit is working very hard on cleaning the decay up and has renovated the Central Station building. I believe it's better than it ever was. These pictures are not up to date. Detroit also gets a huge variance in weather. Brick doesn't last as well as it does in the UK. Detroit also was built up at a much quicker rate than Europe and many other cities in the US. Quality may have been sacrificed. Detroit isn't done yet. I wish everyone would cut them some slack.
