Almost a 100k views! Thank you all for supporting this video, channel and myself. How would you like another critical analysis on All Engines Go? Stay tuned, it is happening soon ;)
@user-up3du6vm7q At this rate probably closer to the end. I have since come up with a lot of ideas for Thomas Topics and I want to cover them before others do.
@@dadocta5168 Like “Awdry’s Golden Rule of Train Engine Realism”, to explain why Thomas & Friends (pre-BWBA) is best remembered and why others claiming to be the “Better Thomas” never made sense?
I doubt it will work I tried to introduce my niece and nephews who are between the ages of 1-8 and I showed them original Thomas and they were completely disinterested but I then showed them aeg and everyone except the oldest likes it so I have a bad feeling aeg is here to say
Thomas: *gasps!* Edward: Thomas! You’re all right! You had a nasty crash and was in a coma for a month! Thank goodness you’re alright! Henry: we thought you were going to be scrapped! It was horrible! We had to fetch our own coaches! So glad you’re back! Thomas: *is traumatized by his coma induced nightmare to even comprehend what’s going on*
@@aidandunn1009One time, I dreamt that Thomas got a reboot where Sodor is just a small area and all the tracks go up and around like the Tomy sets back in the day. This was before AEG happened.
Thanks for making this video! I’ve never liked All Engines Go but it seems like all the Thomas reviewers don’t want to even touch it so I appreciate you making this video and sacrificing yours eyes & sanity to give us great content.
@@WoozieGuy True. If the show was called something like CrazyTrains and was not based off of Thomas the Tank Engine, it would have a wholly different reception.
I still watch the old series and learn from it even as a 20-something. Life is unfair. We shouldn't be peddling this fantasy and setting kids up for emotional failure.
The fact that they removed Edward and Henry from the show is honestly disrespectful to the original stories since they were some of the first characters introduced in the first book
To me, the weirdest thing is that we literally got introduced to Rebecca in the last three or five seasons and immediately in the next season that she’s replaced by Sandy assuming they planned AEG whilst BWBA was taking place what was the point introducing her
Yeah, why introduce a main character when you're going to drop them a few season later They could have spent more time fleshing out Rebecca's character instead of rebooting the entire show
Excellent video, man. The saddest thing about this is that, years ago, I made a joke to friends saying that someday in a BWBA episode, we're gonna see Sir Topham Hatt using an iPad or something, saying "this new technology is really helping the railway." And now here we are and it actually happen in AEG. I jinxed it. We're just one episode away from seeing Thomas dabbing, I swear.
The Reverend W. Awdry said in an interview that his creations would lose their charm if the Americans got a hold of them. He also turned down Andrew Lloyd Webber's pitch for a Railway Series cartoon, which apparently was gonna be similarly cartoony to AEG.
Shit, I'd be angry too. God forbid I make a show as wonderful as the original Thomas and give tons of effort into the series that I've created and loved so dearly.... only for it to be used to make shit like this. Like, I'd be FURIOUS.
Yes, we are the reason you can't have cheap natural gas, you have a migrant invasion and you have to trade in dollars. Vladimir Putin didn't ruin Thomas the Tank Engine.
Another problem with this reboot is that The Fat Controller isn't a railway controller anymore as they just made him the mayor of the island in their show not only that but he's portrayed as flamboyant and over-the-top with these effeminate hand gestures like what the hell were they thinking
Basically, All Engines Go! just destroyed the entirety for how much time and dedication that Britt Allcroft, Andrew Brenner, and Michael White put into for Thomas
I wouldn’t doubt that either, Mattel does not give a shit. Also, what if maybe the huge Mattel block from February was because Mattel was out of spite for the lawsuit from Thomas Land where they were exposed for not caring about those fans with autism.
You can just see that this reboot doesn’t give itself a chance to breathe. With how fast the pacing is, with how random it is and how there are musical numbers that go on for too long. I mean even if nobody knows who Thomas is or if they haven’t seen the original, they wouldn’t get the references in this reboot. And if they did, this reboot is insulting on how much Mattel gets it all wrong.
Many cartoons from the 80s and 90s are also made with those reasons. The difference is that they are original works or ones that are faithful to the source material compared to this: A shotty reboot based on a show from the early 80s, and that show is based on a series of books starting from '45.
Imma be honest i used to not understand people (sometimes in there 20s) getting mad at a kids show for being made more like a kids show but I definitely draw the line at the trains literally being able to jump and use there wheels like hands. Thomas has always had atleast a small degree of realism even in the cgi seasons and i feel like that should never be altered. Hell i remember hating season 12 as a child I would probably be livid if they replaced it with this instead.
At least, despite the over-reliance on the 3 strikes formula, the HiT era DOES tell a story that would fit the classic series here and there! If I could reboot Thomas, I would, in addition to retelling pre-2000s stories, retell the HiT era's better stories! Also, to assure there's female engines as soon as possible, I'd have Molly and Emily there at the beginning and I'd make Duck female, because that particular engine WAS female in the Greek dub! (Until season 17, so could Duck be trans in that dub?)
@@adultmoshifan87My idea for a reboot would be in movie form. It would be much closer to the Railway Series than the TV show and I'd have the animation be done in the style of the Spiderverse movies or Arcane and the characters would look like their Railway Series form and the whole movie would be a mockumentary set during the events of "The Special Letter" where the engines are in the Big city being interviewed about their lives (the events of the previous Railway Series stories). Another idea I have for a movie is an origin story about Sir Topham Hatt. I think a lot of us are aware of Hollywood's trends of origin stories about iconic characters from "Oz: The Great and Powerful" to "Cruella" to "Wonka".
I know it's more cartoony on purpose, but I would not feel safe riding train pulled by a engine that can just hop off the rails whenever it wants. Also, Christopher Awdry specifically said Thomas doesn't do that, because engines don't do that!
I grew up with the CGI era, but I feel like children should be introduced to the model era. (P.s. I know i should be serious when i was watching this, I burst out laughing at any random intervals (≧▽≦))
Correction, they should be introduced to any era that doesn’t give the middle finger to Rev. Awdry’s golden rule on train engine realism; there’s no realism in the BWBA and AEG eras: 16:18
THIS is why I am REALLY worried about the state of kids entertainment in the present. My niece was born 2 years ago and although she's my brother's kid, not mine, I am shocked that she RELIES on Peppa Pig and Cocomelon! They are NOT the only 2 shows she likes, she is also a fan of Hey Duggee, In The Night Garden and although she lost interest at first, she EVENTUALLY got into Bluey (thank Christ!), but knowing how bad Peppa Pig, Cocomelon and other low quality kids shows are, it REALLY worries me that kids these days will NOT grow up with standards, it's like the parents don't seem to care about the quality of what their kids watch! My parents and brother also disregarded the WARNING I gave them this time last year "If you want to get her into Thomas The Tank Engine, show her the original series and STAY AWAY FROM ALL ENGINES GO!", they did NOT take my warning AT ALL seriously. My niece (to my knowledge) has NOT had ANY experience with TTTE as of yet, but what my parents and brother said WORRIES me that many grown ups do NOT properly understand kids entertainment! Dad even said, after I told him about AEG "That sounds like the Cars movies"! We both like the Cars movies a lot, I can still even get some enjoyment out of Cars 2 despite its flaws, but because AEG is part of the Thomas franchise, it is to be judged as Thomas! My Mom said "sounds like they're retooling Thomas for today's little ones" and I am like "WHAT?!?"! If you have a little one and you show him or her the realistic ORIGINAL Thomas show and/or read to him or her the original Railway Series, there's a good chance he or she will enjoy it/them as much as we did! RWS/TTTE is NOT LIKE other kids shows, they were written in a way so that grown ups can enjoy watching/reading them as much as their kids! We remember Thomas seasons 1-5 fondly. When the little ones of the late 2010s-present day look back on BWBA/AEG when they're older, what will they think? Furthermore, guess what my Mom said to me a few hours after my niece was born 2 years ago? If I were to have kids of my own, I "cannot" raise him/her/them in a "1980s bubble"! I know you shouldn't wrap your kid(s) in cotton wool, but... would you rather introduce your kid to Thomas through the RWS/pre-2000s seasons or BWBA/AEG? would you rather introduce your kid to Postman Pat through that franchise's pre-2000s content or its 2003-onwards content? would you rather introduce your kid to Fireman Sam through the stop motion seasons or the CGI ones where Norman Price has an annoying voice and is sadistic as hell? would you rather introduce your kid to Bob The Builder through the stop motion seasons or that 2015 reboot that's ugly as sin? It's not just preschool content I'm worried about: even some of the stuff school age children watch is low quality! The 2017 Spider Man cartoon, while it had good ideas like bringing in different Spider Men like Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey, is poorly written, not very well colored and has less effort put into the animation than those straight-to-DVD Disney sequel movies! As annoying as Ultimate Spider Man was, that show was at least well animated! The 2016 Powerpuff Girls reboot (I know there's another series on the way with McCracken on board but I still need to talk about the awful 2016 one for a bit) is the DEFINITION of pandering to today's kids! It totally ignores what made the 1998 PPG series special, shoehorns in smartphone and meme references til the cows come home (even DA BOOM CREW wasn't THIS shameless!) and not even asking the original VAs back REALLY adds salt to the wound! WHY THE FUCK is Teen Titans GO! STILL running after NEARLY 10 YEARS? It WAS a popular show in 2013-2015 but ANYONE who's watched enough of it would agree with me that it talks down to kids, makes jokes that are less mature even than the worst Adam Sandler movies, is way too in-your-face, it's insulting, shameless and doesn't even care what its critics think! Also, for it to STILL be getting new episodes is INEXCUSABLE: it's NO LONGER as popular as it was in the mid-2010s and the original fans have now most likely passed their driving tests! Of all the cartoons I can think of off the top of my head (if you can think of a worse one, I either haven't heard of it, forgot it existed in the first place or was never really popular to begin with), the ABSOLUTE WORST one I can think of, at least for children in the 6-12 age group, is HORRID HENRY! The main character is a rude, selfish asshole who's mean as fuck to those around him, almost never gets his comeuppance, has lame as hell art direction, a half assed color scheme and the writing is SO DESPERATE to PANDER to kids from 2006 onwards! I CANNOT believe this show is STILL as popular as it is 16 YEARS LATER. I was IN COLLEGE when it started, yet they are STILL milking it all these years later, Citv promoted it to death until the show migrated to Nicktoons in 2018, it's also one of that channel's MOST POPULAR shows, I have NO IDEA how kids ENJOY it when by the time they're in the show's target age group THEY SHOULD KNOW WHAT HENRY DOES IS WRONG and... it's just another mass produced show that doesn't care if kids who watch it end up not knowing what's different as a result! There is NO EXCUSE for Horrid Henry to STILL be going when it's as ABYSMAL a show as it is and ESPECIALLY when the original fans are NOW WORKING THEIR FIRST JOBS! Children DESERVE BETTER THAN WHAT THEY'RE BEING GIVEN! Okay, that's not 100% the case, there ARE good shows in the mainstream like Bluey, The Loud House and Craig of The Creek, but shit like Peppa Pig, Cocomelon and Horrid Henry takes SO MUCH of the spotlight while Chip and Potato, Hilda and Alva's World are doomed to just be labelled as deep cuts! There ARE good shows out there but it should NOT take THIS much searching to find them! Also, with the BBC closing their CBBC channel in 2025, I don't know if it really will happen anytime soon but I would LOVE to see Channel 4 re-enter the kids TV market! If they were to launch a new kids block next month, it realistically could consist of assorted cartoons from around Europe, maybe a few from Australia, and some Fourways Farm reruns, new original kids programming coming later on. But in the process, I would REALLY like Channel 4 to BUY OUT Thomas & Friends from Mattel, bringing an end to AEG and putting the original 5 seasons from before the 2000s back on our screens! (The original cuts, not those remasters with extra goofs! If doing so means playing the English soundtrack over foreign master tapes, so be it!) Of course you can't keep a franchise alive with existing content alone, so a new Thomas reboot would have to happen, and that would be great! It could fix the problems the classic series had (such as NOT adapting The Missing Coach!), tell us some new original stories, maybe fix the problems with the HiT era and show us that any franchise can work in the right hands! Also, think Adam Hills would be a good choice for the new narrator? Bottom line: you CANNOT raise your kids on any old mass produced entertainment, they DO appreciate quality if/when they see it, pick the shows and incarnations of those shows you want them to watch CAREFULLY and help them develop standards! Thank you for your time.
My idea for a reboot of Thomas is a theatrical film animated in the style of Arcane or Spiderman into the Spiderverse. My idea is a mockumentary like Surf's Up where the characters are being interviewed about their lives and we show footage of the events that happened in the books. I wouldn't call it a Thomas movie because I'm using the books for source material and won't use Thomas in the title but Thomas would definitely be in the movie. I'd also have characters talking about the way railways work and maybe even have one character predict All Engines Go and other pieces of Thomas media that go against Awdry's style. Is meta the right way to say it? I like the idea of the interviews happening during the story of The Special Letter and I came up with an idea for a second movie set in the narrow gauge railway. Another couple of ideas for movies I have are adapting Gordon goes Foreign into its own movie and an origin story about Sir Topham Hatt.
Mattel is showing this crap like the equivalent of mooning into someone’s face. I feel bad for Neil Crone in this show, even though I still like his Gordon’s voice
Another problem with this reboot is trying to be to American like seriously the all engines go reboot tries to get rid of everything that was British to the point where you have all the background humans looking like people from America rather than England also having North American animals feature on Sodor such as skunks beavers and raccoons in the original series sodor was very clearly supposed to be off the coast of England and so the wildlife are very likely going to be European animals like Foxes Hedgehogs Badgers Deer
That's what happens when you let an American company take hold of a BRITISH creation (No offense to any Americans) They also dubbed some of the CGI Seasons of Fireman Sam with American accents which is absolutely pointless considering Pontypandy is set in WALES!
@@danielmtheone4031 I remember that line all too well (again no offence to Americans) "Once the Americans (an American corporation) get hold of it, the series would be vulgarized and ruined"
If they ever decide to use the stories from the RWS, mainly the book "the three railway engines" it would be Gordon explaining to Thomas, Percy, Diesel, Nia, and Kanna about how Gordon was when he was in his younger days
just a reminder that Awdry hated the Henry forest episode for lacking realism and how Henry’s driver did not notify a signal man before stopping and that the trees were too close to the line. Now imagine what Awdry would say about whatever the heck AEG is doing. (I also like to think that Edward and Henry both left the show because they took one look at the script and said no way. And those two engines in the show are actually not Edward and Henry)
@@ThomasYang727 Yes, because Mattel chucked Rev. Awdry’s golden rule of train engine realism in favor of competing against Chuggington; a series with a perverse claim of wanting to be the Better Thomas by not following Awdry’s rule.
7:00 I know that feeling. I'm autistic and Bruno has a lot of my traits, but that doesn't make me like the show any better. I might've liked it a lot more if it was a completely new train show or an adaptation of Toodles or The Little Engine that Could or a reboot of Chuggington or something like that and not Thomas. I can see they won over a lot of other autistic people though and kuddos to companies in general who try to make autistic audiences feel welcome. Even with a character they can relate to, I think autistic little kids are more likely to prefer a show that's a calming slow pace with easy to read facial expressions. While it's not the same for every autistic kid, I'm definitely gonna try some old ones on today's little kids.
I work at a cinema here in the UK. We showed AEG when it first came out, and it was out for a few days. The screen was mostly empty, and this was despite the tickets for kids and parents being less than half the price. The next year, they went back to showing The Adventure Begins, and now thats the only Thomas movie we ever show, lol. Even BwBa doesn't get shown anymore, so it shows that kids really didn't buy it. Now if only we could stop them showing peppa bloody pig and get more Lord of the Rings screenings on each year.
POV when Duck see All Engines Go for the first time: There are two ways of doing things, the great western way and the wrong way, and that reboot Mattel is doing is the wrong way.
I can relate # 34 with # 32 Also, I noticed that Carley’s knuckle boom arm is about the same height as the beams of the old mining tunnel. She should’ve been stuck at the entrance instead of fully coming in with no dents or bends of that crane arm. This is also what happens when animators do *NOT* pay attention to height consistency!!!
The idea of anthropomorphic trains jumping from one train track to the next sounds great on paper. But considering how realistic the railway and original TV series were, I'm like 'Hang on a minute!' Watching this review makes me so glad to have been born in 1995 and grow up watching the first five seasons in the late 90's and early 00's. Booting veteran characters like Edward, Henry, and Toby from the Steam Team and keeping non-Awdry characters like Emily was bad enough. But rebooting the show in a 2D form when there was nothing wrong with its 3D form? Like, come on!
But another clearly did because it got a German dub. Are older versions of Thomas still easily accessible in Germany so that little kids aren't limited to only one version of Thomas?
In the AEG version of Vicarstown, probably only seen in Kana Goes Slow, you can see that the roads surrounding the Vicarstown station have RAIL TRACKS. You cannot escape the trains. Even if you are on the road, there's no escaping them.
I grew up mostly with the Clearwater era of Thomas with both Ringo Starr and George Carlin, it’s sad to see how a show that was respected by both of them became nothing more than an average dull train show you’d see nowadays. Hell, our reverend would be very pissed off about it.
Also they should've made Rosie a main character and kept Carly as a crane so we could still have a character that exists for girls but a character that has already been introduced but that's just my opinion
Two bonus issues - one of the new characters is a brake van which can manifest ear defenders from steam. 1. How does a brake van produce steam? 2. How does steam attenuate loud noises in any meaningful way? This version just gets worse and worse.
Heres another problem I have with all engines go despite there being international characters such as Nia mentioning she is from Kenya like in the original series they didn't even bother giving her a Kenyan accent the same goes with other characters like Kenji and Yong Bao like does Mattel think everyone from other parts of the world that sound like there from America
16:19 I remember watching that clip in cinemas. I was like this seems ok just before that scene happened. Now I'm not saying AEG is a replacement for Thomas the logic is thrown out the window and sometimes I feel like shouting at the screen but sometimes I will watch it and it's like one of those things where you can leave your brain at home. But I'm not saying it's amazing or better then the Miller era. If I was judging the episodes as it's separate thing from the original show, an episode like Something To Remember would be a fine episode. But if it was against the OG series It would be at the bottom.
6:31, "Who in the sweltering pits of Sodor Scrapyard" killed me. I never noticed how Gordon was written as wise when that should've been Edward. If they're not going to name Henry and Edward, why bother including them? Why did my boy get featured in this crap. Of course there are no oppositions, kids aren't allowed to be anything other than happy because kids are STUPID.
The fact that Bulstrode, a random boat character who serves no purpose outside of being a barge, has more screen time than Edward and Henry, two very very very important railway series characters that were apart of the being of this hole thing would make the Rev W Awdry cring
I don't have anything against kids doing voice acting but it really upset me that studios believe toddlers and preschoolers won't enjoy the show if they hired a man to voice a kid despite other preschool shows like Sesame Street, Bugs Bunny Builders, Muppet Babies and Batwheels proving otherwise. I feel like Mattel refused to even allow men to audition simply to be overly age appropriate. I'm not trying to insult the kids who do the voices. I'm just frustrated they're too focused on staying with the times. Heck, the creator of Batwheels was against kidifying the DC heroes and was told by the company to be faithful to the characters and guess what, Batwheels reportedly became the most successful original preschool show on HBO Max and was renewed for a second season. If I do a preschool show, I'll totally allow men to audition for kid characters. Heck, I might do some of them myself. Hopefully, I can also make sure it's independent so that big studios don't tell me what I can and can't do in my show.
6:07 Ugghh! That’s another problem I have with this reboot is that expression! I feel like I need to censor out that face due to how bad the animation is in this reboot.
7:38 Actually, there was an aeg episode where Sir Topham Hatt mentioned that his hat belonged to many controllers before, so I'd assume that implies that he IS still the railway controller. As for Gordon, imma assume he's just passing on Sir Topham Hatt's orders to the engines for him or something. Idk
What makes it worse is that Mattel initially said to Island of Sodor Forums that they didn't wanna do that. I can't even tell if they lied or changed their minds.
@@mustin07doesgamingIf I do a preschool show about talking vehicles, I'll make sure they don't use their wheels for hands as long as I don't sell it to a big company.
For 26: the reasons songs are in every 2 episodes is because when mattel signed the contract for Thomas On Cartoon Network, Cartoon Network forced them to put the songs into the episodes unless there wont be songs at all because cartoon network only does one episode airings and not custom ones, they just put airings of episodes together
They originally signed it many months before, they put thomas on Cartoon Network’s block “Cartoonito” that was apparently the only way they would air the episodes because the channel is lazy, yes it is on netflix, but they wanted to put it on a channel too
I saw your end credits, including the use from The Emperors New Groove. That movie makes more sense than AEG. And it has modern electric tools in a 1500 era Peru.
I read that Rick Suvalle wanted to respect the source material as much as possible but had to deal with executive meddling (or whatever the appropriate way of saying it is). Thanks for doing what you could, Rick!
Yeah it's really weird As I remember British Engine don't use bell, but the American use it So for some reason they make Thomas an American (this also paired with Gordon using US Version of couplers)
Britt Alcroft doesn't like it but she said to keep loving the old Thomas. She also hopes that Mattel someday makes the classic books and TV shows easily accessible.
Gee! The reboot is Hasbro level of laziness with the animation Let’s face it: The reboot is nothing but a slapstick of 50 failures rolled into one show
@@inaciosthirdstudio that would be a horror to see how a real model trains series gone downhill to a 2d animation style. I’m used to Diesel being frienemies with Thomas and the steam engines
My guess for why Henry and Edward weren't called by name was because they were a bit too far away at that moment to be clearly recognizable by the other characters
@@jacobjcb8883He said it's because they needed extra engines for the scene. Keep in mind that the voice acting has to be done before the animation. I think it wasn't until after the voices were recorded that the team decided to use Edward and Henry.
@@matthewweatherford6566 They could have used any other engines for the scene in Dragon Run but they just had to pick the engines that started it all all to be called " those trains" It's so sad seeing them regressing to nobodies
Speaking of Thomas not appearing in every episode, I have a German language tape that features 5 episodes from season 4, all focusing on the narrow gauge engines (although the cover has a picture of Gordon from the episode "Trucks") and Thomas only appeared in the background in a couple episodes (not to mention the intro). The only time I heard someone say Thomas' name in the video was an ad for Thomas board games and card games. I also have a DVD copy of Magic Railroad in German.
Omg I had not seen ANY of this new Thomas - eeeek! What a travesty! But what a great analysis- so sad what they did with beloved Thomas - thanks for making this video!
