A fun fact about the RE4 Weapons Merchant is that although He doesn't physically appear in any other games, he does get mentioned by The Duke in RE Village. He says his famous line "what're ya buyin" and proceeds to say that an old friend of his used to say that. And that marked the first time since RE4 that the Merchant ever got mentioned outside of his original game. Which is pretty cool! And I can't wait to meet him again in the remake. Anyways great video, hopefully it will blow up you REALLY deserve it!
As someone with a soft spot for character design and lost media, there's something sad knowing some cut characters from games (and any media for the matter) will never reach their full potential or gain a cult like status in their respective communities.
I'm pretty sure that I did fight with spirit of the ancient traveller in Skyrim. Weird but I could be just a bug, like everything else in Bethesda games on launch day
ok from what ive seen, gex jr is not gex's son, but gex dressed in boy clothing, as he would go to tv channels and movies, gex would be in a kids tv setting, and thus dressed for the theme, there's a great video by Johnny Vector explaining what the game is about in detail tho why is there a fart feature built in the game is beyond me
You could almost call Elza Walker Claire's consumed twin, since her DNA in the sense of her remnant influence still sort of exists, just in the form of Claire's character.
I remember this Game Informer article on an upcoming game, it had a hot brown chick wearing a poncho-style top made out of big broad green leaves, and a robot made out of wood.. I've never been able to find what the hell that was, if the game came out, or which GI issue it was (going through archives didn't help)
Yes because its really important to mention who got to be the first black woman in a nintendo game as if it is some big leap forward towards civil and human rights
There's Rin Satsuki from Touhou 6, like she was planned and had some archives in game, but ended up being dropped due to space issues or something like that and never appeared on the franchise
I love how my sleep deprived eyes read your comment as "shadow of Gex" (yeah, I'm that tired) caused me to immediately start looking for a shadow of him.
It's rumored that Soulcalibur III's Edgardo was actually reworked into Algol, since they both look *extremely* similar; and even though Algol would become as more of a pseudo-mediator in the middle of the main conflict instead of Siegfried's ally (role taken by Hildegard), I can believe that theory, lol. SCIII also featured a redhead woman in armor wielding a lance in some pictures promoting the Create-A-Soul mode of the game... I always thought that she was the base of what later became Hildegard, but idk if that's true. It's just a theory I've had for _eons_ [edit]: Since you also mentioned Q.Takagi and Wovama, SCII also had a couple of mysterious characters that were supposedly revealed to the public, but never implemented into the game. I'm having A LOT of trouble finding those pictures again but I can assure they exist. This is like an extremely obscure piece of trivia. Also... Siegfried was supposedly going to be a girl at one point, if what I found in the Project Soul Archive was correctly translated lol.
This is super interesting! The SCII characters might be something I can go back to and see if there's any more to dig up. Girl Siegfried is fun to imagine, too. I bet that version of Nightmare would've been a lot of fun.
While slightly off topic I find it hilarious how the monster hunter community Mandela effected themselves into believing deviljho will eat its own tail if you don’t carve it fast enough after severing it. Literally before it was brought into question it was considered common knowledge but literally no one has footage of it happening which made people scramble to try and catch new footage but no one was successful.
What about Rin Satsuki? She was going to be a third playable character in the first Windows-era Touhou game: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, but time constraints forced ZUN to scrap her. Unfortunately, she doesn't exist in any form other than a couple lines of text in the code, but fans have taken to using her anyway, just like with the unused Pokémon. They've even given her a design, which was extracted from artwork ZUN did of a nameless girl in his circle cut from Comiket 62.
I loved this video! The amount of research, recording, and editing that must have gone into this is an incredible feat, and has come together to make an amazing video with great information, lots of interesting entries, and awesome delivery! Love your amicable personality and jokes, and the background music and sound effects are a great vibe. Keep it up, I always look forward to each new video you create and can't wait to see you keep growing in 2023!
Thank you so so much for not only taking the time to say something so nice, but for watching my vids throughout 2022 💙 Hope you have a wonderful new year!
The character I currently have as my profile picture - Roy from Fire Emblem - almost didn't exist. From having Fire Emblem on the Nintendo 64 cancelled, almost being named Ike in that game, to making his first appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee when his game was in development, this guy and his father Eliwood has had a rocky history. They were lucky compared to these ones I came here to reminisce on the characters we never got. Excellent iceberg, idea- and execution-wise!
honestly i think the skylanders rep that should have been on the iceberg instead of sniper should be sun dragon which was an early version of the character camo that already had a figure and a model and was even i. the trailer of the first game for a brief second.
I've seen three iceberg videos related cut content and still haven't seen a single entry related to Metal Slug 5. That game has more unused content than USED content, I'm not even kidding. Still a nice iceberg, I've come to know even more obscure characters and cut content.
For cut Pokemon characters that aren't Pokemon also in the gold and silver beta is that your main character was originally going to have a brother. This is interesting because we don't know how major his role could've been and I don't believe they've yet to make a mainline Pokemon game where you're not a single child and no one really talks about this character. Even more is that his sprite ended up being reused for the final character Cool Trainer Nick who he himself is a character a lot of players might not even see. His only appearance is that he has a chance to spawn during the bug catching contest and on top of that he's notorious for being a completely rigged and broken npc that you have basically no chance of winning against but again, no one really talks much about him. And more on Dee Jay's development, after the Fei Long clone was switched to him Dee Jay actually ended up being the only character in that game to be designed by the US division too. This is because after he was first designed they saw it and to quote, it was "Too racist for any human being to lay eyes on" so they completely redesigned him with the original of course never surfacing and its whereabouts unknown. So how horrible it is is just left to the imagination. On a lighter note I love it when (good) scrapped content and especially myths and rumors for a video game end up becoming officially use in someway. Can only hope more of this stuff does become more complete sometime even if it's through mods and I wish we could get a rom of Twelve Tales to come out. My favorite betamon is Pangshi/Kyonpan but unfortunately I don't have much hope for him being apart of stuff :(.
Surprised that Stella from FF Verses XIII wasn't in this vid, some people were enraptured by her from small in progress footage of the game and some moments of her in the cinematic that showed her. but thats more of an idea than a solid character I suppose
Interesting stuff. It's always fun to see what kind of crazy fighting game characters could've been made. I'm surprised Bond Man(a cancelled Mega Man 1 boss who uses a Glue Gun) wasn't included cause that was known for a bit. There's also some recent footage of an early MMX1 Maverick, but we don't know much about that guy.
From what I read, Gex Jr. isn't actually Gex's son, but Gex himself. The stage of that demo is based on a kid's TV show, and much like how he changes costumes and appearances for different stages, he becomes a kid when he enters that stage.
I came in expecting meme characters made up by the gaming community and treated like they're real such as Scrimblo Bimblo and Glaive Master Hodir but this works too.
12:20 i think you went over the subject of Self/Selph way too fast. There's a lot of recent datamining breakthrough that happened thanks to a dedicated team of fans, plus a demo recently acquired. So i think it's a missed opportunity to bring more attention to a small community.
Oh, another lost fighting game character you guys may be interested in is Tekken's unnamed Taekwondo Girl, who was supposed to be in the Tekken Mobile game, but was scrapped iirc due to the game's end of service. She had high quality renders of her wearing different costumes, as well as a sheet that showed what some of her moves looked like.
Street Fighter's had a lot of scrapped characters too from across their games, the most famous of which being King Cobra for Street Fighter IV, who would've been an African-American fighter whose style would use a mix of Breakdancing and Kung-Fu, but was replaced by Rufus after deciding that an overweight character would've been a better fit in the game apparently. I've done a lot of research on scrapped fighting game characters back in the day, wish I could remember them all, such an interesting read.
My favorite cut character is Edith from the Binding of Isaac Repentance. She’s based on the woman who turned into a pillar of Salt in the Bible. She had a unique gimmick of hoping around instead of walking.
You randomly showed up in my feed with a super interesting video. The editing and research for this must have taken months! Glad i checked this vid out though, hope you keep up the amazing work!
Thanks a lot. Your videos are quite informative and gave me bit of ideas. But, now I got reminded about Scalebound. Bummer. A game that never was. Any ideas could be good or bad. But an unrealized idea is already a loss, a lost cause even. They should of keep making new IP. Man, these last few years are quite desolate years for big games.
Its really nice thay you metioned Selph : D especially since the comunity finally cracked the game wid3 open and everyone goes does this relate to them?? With eitb everyfind that could
26:50 The Armos Titan sounds like it would have behaved similarly to the Phantoms in Phantom Hourglass; stalking Link and being shot in the back to neutralize them
Skylanders swap force was originally called shape-shifters and instead of only top and bottom halves being swappable, the head, body, and bottom part were gonna be changeable, and 3 characters were created for the game which were an earth skylander named Aftershock, a water skylander named Krayken, and a unnamed air skylander. There's concept art of these 3 characters, along with concept art showing what would have been changeable and each part were supposed to do like the head possibly being for personality and buff, the body and bottom half being for combat, and the bottom half possibly being for speed and jump, and that same concept also features the 3 characters that I mentioned, along with 2 other skylanders that have never been seen, all turned into earth element skylanders. There's also an image that shows that 9 prototype figures of the 3 skylanders were made to show off the 3 skylanders in physical form (in the front frow) and behind them are different combinations and how they would each look to show off the swapping ability. They were sadly never released. Luckily, some of their abilities were given to some swap force skylanders like the air skylander, who supposedly would have used the end of her tail as a boomerang and would have thrown it at enemies, was given to rattle shake and became his tail spin, which knocks back enemies and an upgrade allows him to throw skeleton snakes when he does it, and there is a little Easter egg where krayken and the air skylander do make a small appearance as floaties in the fantasm forest
