Lol i was looking at the thumbnail like isn't that just andy mcdonald lol? This guy is not just a 50 year old skateboarder. Absolute legend, I wouldn't be surprised if he made it!
As a 50 year old skateboarder myself this makes me depressed because from the outside looking in it seems very silly and depressing that they’re treating Andy as a handicap or something and as a grandfather hanging out skateboarding with little kids. I’m not hanging out with little kids there just happens to be kids of all ages at the skatepark, we’re all in our own little world doing this thing called skateboarding in this shared space. If you can still physically do it, why not??? There’s 60-70 year old skateboarders on RU-vid. If skateboarding is silly so is throwing a ball.
Agree, the novelty angle is a bit cringe here. As the first big waves of skaters grow up the novelty of seeing older dkaters will wear off, I’m sure. Not to detract from AM’s achievements, of course.
theres a big difference between doing something at the highest level at 50 and skating ur local park at 50.. hes def setting uncharted territory rn ..... hes a oddball being that much older than the competition and people every right to be amazed by it
@@kyleinorlYeah, like Kelly Slater in surfing, competing against the young guys, it's not something we see every day, at this age generally they're already doing masters events.
Lol i slammed so hard the FIRST day skating again after like 20 years 🤣🤦♂️ my own fault for skating in a bowl before I even had my balance back yet. Sore ribs for like 6 weeks
53 here....skated a ton of vert as a teenager in NORCAL and again a little in my 30's. Have been back at it for a year now after 20 years absence. LOVING IT.
I used to see Andy at the park quite a bit 20 or so years or so ago. His personality marches his skating ability. Always took time to sign autographs for people and even invited us over for a couple BBQ after skate sessions.
Eat healthy, exercise, get sleep and don’t smoke or drink and have a positive mindset and you can keep skating and being good at physical sports as long as you don’t have an injury
Listen up kids, Andy Mac has prolonged his career by decades because he uses protection. He has always worn a helmet, knee and elbow pads. So make the smart choice and your body will still function later in life.
As a 50 year old skateboarder myself, I wish him the best. I never quit either and I'm still learning new tricks. I've seen him perform live many times for decades. He is remarkable for being the most consistent high level vert skater next to Tony hawk.
I imagine he's trying to qualify for the park skating event as they don't have a vert ramp comp at the Olympics as he's predominantly a vert skater. It's a little sad that they don't have a vert ramp event although park is essentially all transition (ramp) skating anyway. At least they do have street and park though and don't just try and jam both into one as skateparks are often a mix of street obstacles and ramps. They could just build a skatepark with street and transitions in it and just call it all the skateboarding event so at least they differentiate between the 2. Don't think he competed in the last Olympics so not sure if he tried to qualify for them or not.
