"Three friends stopped my by house in Tazewell and proceeded to inform me that we were going to see the Dead. I will never forget the first chords of Bertha and Jerry in his black t-shirt. What an unforgettable night!!!" -Ripple72, dead.net
"My first Dead show as I was still in high school! I remember them opening with Bertha and them doing an extended jam with an awesome drum solo off of Playing in the Band! My best friend worked at the Roanoke Civic Center and he said that the Dead could not get all of their sound system in the civic center! lol! My brother came to the show in a tuxedo as he took his girlfriend to her prom! lol! I mention that as my brother has passed on to the next world. Totally awesome show! Don’t remember an encore but there could have been one as we got a bottle of Rock n Rye in the show but that Playing in the Band! WOW! They came here again in 1987 for two shows and I saw both!" -kaptainkopter, dead.net
