50 Years Of Type 74 · Goodbye Nana-Yon .... 

I'm sad to see the old lad go. The type 74 and 61 (in my humble opinion) where the best looking tanks Japan made. I do hope the JGSDF make some effort to keep one or two in working order as museum/ historical vehicles. I would like to have seen them have done that with the type 61, but it looks like they just kept some at gate guards and they don’t look like thery're in great shape now. Also, maybe giving one to the tank museum in England would be nice...😉

Goodbye. It was such a beautiful tank. Sad to see her go.

I salute and bow respectfully for your hard work of defending your nation Type 74. You are maybe retired but your legacy Type 90 and Type 10 will alway carry and finish your road. And japan will alway remember you as one of the nation pride. さようなら、伝説 ❤❤❤

Yet another reason to hate this year. RIP 74, you remain iconic and loved

The 74 was deemed obsolete when it entered service but it soldiered on for nearly half a century. Its design would've make sense as the Type 61 (Japan's Western allies were already using guns in 105mm and above while its first domestic postwar tank was equipped with a 90mm gun). The Type 74 reminds me of the American T95 prototype for some reason, especially the turret design and the hydropneumatic system except it was equipped with the L7 gun but no composite armour. Hope it and the 61 join others at Bovington. Tank Museum really needs more Japanese tanks.
