I made this video a few months pryer to uploading it. The editing was a nightmare because of all the mistakes I made reassembling. I replaced the bushings and checked the motor windings. The fan is somewhere around 50 years old and the bushings were bad because of lack of oiling. Great video, but it is a bit long. It was worth it though to have it running properly again. This was repaired for sentimental reasons.

By watching this video, my question's finally been answered as to how to get that GE motor apart.

Yeah, that was an interesting project for me. I'm glad it worked out in the end. Sometimes it's fun to try and fix old things like that; not that there are too many of them around anymore. Lol...

@@ElectronicsEditor I know, while they're rolling out with these cheap, worthless plastic blade box fans.

@@ElectronicsEditor & the way that fan was built is already inspiring me to do a window fan project just about the same way.

I noticed the fan took a very short time to come to a complete stop when you shut it off.

Yeah, the new bearings fit nicely on the shafts, but after assembled, they felt a little snug. It was difficult to get the two bearings lined up perfectly after the complete teardown (a slight misalignment while pressing them into their spots could cause this). Although, after running the fan for a period of time, they seemed to have worked their way into alignment much better, and I have been informed that now it runs and stops as normal. I figured they would settle into their spots better after a bit of use, so I wasn't worried too much about them.

I have to say that fan should've been used inside a house, not outdoors or in a garage.
