Today we leave the comfortable base of Swakopmund to venture in the more rural stop over point of Solitaire. A truly solitary place with less than 100 population in the town. However, they have an incredible Apple pie which makes up for the quietness.
This must have been one of the most beautiful but terrifying flights whilst being in Namibia. Flying over hundreds of kilometres of desert is incredible but can be catastrophically dangerous. An ocean of sand with temperatures reaching nearly 40 degrees celsius during the day and low single digits at night.

Wow Thomas, that FPV video footage is impressive; both the picture quality and your ability to position it relative to the plane. I thought it’s only Trent Palmer that could pull those shots off. Thank you for taking us along on another adventure.

How firm is that desert sand, could you land on it safely? I think you could definitely land on that apple pie.

Haha the desert floor is pretty firm but the dunes are very soft. I reckon with big enough tires you could “float” on top of the sand if need be but wouldn’t want to try it if I didn’t need to

We had a chat to the local flight school in Swakopmund prior to departure on what the accepted reporting points and altitudes were prior to departure. Nothing better than local knowledge!

"Not be found in the desert" ??? Why are you not using SPOT Gen4™ Globaler Satelliten-GPS-Messenger. In December, I was flying Glider in Namibia, Pokweni, and it was mandatory to use the Spot. Position logging every 5 minutes via Satellit on the internet, to find you latest position. And an SOS button.

Hi Heinz, I am using a Garmin InReach tracker
