As an Australian car and beach enthusiast, I think this clip might be peak pommy tourist. Well done lads and kudos for BMW Australia for being such good sports.
Did Tony... Just Put.... E10 in a M3.... Tony WHAT ARE YOU DOING!! We don't even put that in our cars worth 5k 🤣. Also Sam not liking chicken salt! Mate!! Thats just not right. 🤣. Glad you guys are loving my home country though!
Tony possibly did not realise we have unadulterated petrol in Australia and just picked up what he is used too, all petrol in UK has at least 5% Ethanol
... you do realize E10 is theoretically better for your engine as ethanol is burning way colder?! Theres a reason tuners pour E85 in their cars. The only issue is that it might mess with fuel lines and injectors on older cars, not on a 2023 BMW tho.
@@TheGreener121 E10 is not better for your engine. It has a lower octane rating than E5 so it has less resistance to engine knock. E85 on the other hand has a higher octane rating than even E5. You also need to have your engine made for E85 which this M3 probably isn't. higher ethanol content doesn't automatically make it better for your car
@@funkymonkey2091 The G8x series is hardened to run on ethanol blended fuel up to E25. I've run E10 in my G81 but generally I use 98/100RON fuel where available.
Sam, I really think Moby (Tony) should be paying you for this experience. You took him out of his comfort zone that is London and brought him down here. Australians have the term "whinging Pom" and he certainly lived up to it throughout your visit. Anyway, another great upload, look forward to the next.
Coffs Harbour! I spent a month living there during my 12 months of living in Australia and travelling up the East Coast with my friends! That little beach town will always hold a special place in my heart ❤
The M340d touring would be a better daily, I am considering both, but, the fuel consumption giving better range and torque from the diesel would be more available/accessible at low revs around city and towns.
Thanks for the video guys. Living your best lives. Perfect piece of escapism for me, its chucking it down in deepest lincolnshire. M3 touring is my ultimate daily dream car, ive owned a bmw 3 series f31 320d touring for 6 years and as Chris Harris says , you dont really need anything more. That was before the M3 touring came out though !
Great video Sam. This area is my favourite part of Australia, I've done multiple road trips similar to yours. Also happens to have the best climate too.
For me, a Golf R estate. would be a real shout. Nearly half the cost, but most of the useability and pace. Would probably spend some of the change adding a bit more drama to it. Top vlog as usual. 👍👍
taking a AWD on the beach is not advisable here in Australia, 100% preferable to be a 4WD and also lower tyre pressure to around 10-14 PSI depending in the softness of the sand, each beach is differnet
Really enjoyed this video, made me a bit homesick. Great drone footage, AU has some great roads, it’s such a shame many are so over policed and that the standard of driving is generally so poor.
The M3 touring is not only a unique awesome car - it also looks great, what is wrong with me? Thank you for sharing this special beach experience, I had not idea that this is possible down under!
I'm sure you should have put in the 98 petrol not the 95! 😄. Hopefully BMW don't watch too closely . . . though after the beach a little low octane petrol won't matter.
Either is fine. From the M3 owner’s handbook: ‘You can fill up with fuels with a maximum ethanol content of 25 %, for example E10 or E25. Petrol grade The engine is designed to run on petrol as per DIN EN 228. Super Plus, RON 98. Use this fuel to achieve the rated performance and consumption figures. Minimum grade Super, RON 95.’
Great video, the M4/M3 xdrive and touring are Fab cars, dominated by that engine which just pulls with xdrive they are a fabulous offbeat choice for an everyday all weather car that is still a beast when you want to play.....
This is my neck of the woods I’m in Newcastle - always fun to see others at it 😊 I’m glad you came in land the motorway is boring as bat shit. Thunderbolts is a great drive.
Great video, car and scenery, your biggest contributor to the low MPG apart from the heavy right foot it's the roof rack and surf board would be close to 10mpg negative affect.
Fuel tank size is really not an issue except on trackdays. You shouldn't drive more than 3 hours or so without a short stop to relax, stretch etc - so refuelling then is no problem
Loved oz when I visited my brother in brisbane. Think I’d take the alpina B3s touring though, as it’s just a bit dialled back from the M3- and more exclusive than the 340i.
Why would you need 510hp on a daily?! The actual perfect daily is the M340i touring. As a daily, you won't notice the difference between the two, but the M340i is (much) cheaper, more comfortable and more fuel efficient than the M3
Father of two with active lifestyle, current M3 owner, RS6P, Speedster and a c300 estate(Wife’s). The RS6 is the pick of the bunch. It’s got plenty of room, it’s hilarious to drive, the weight is a non issue 99% of the time and the M3 is just as bad on fuel economy. I don’t know why you didn’t bond with it but have another kid and you will possibly find the m3 “tight” as they get older. My kids are teenagers and the RS6P is my ideal car. Mine is Goodwood Green as well with full AE interior.
While it's not the drive the world series anymore. I would be incredibly grateful if you showed a few local cars or car history. Either way thanks for the content Sam
I missed out on seeing you in Melbourne and then up in Queensland. I hope to catch you in Sydney, my home city. However, I am thankful for these amazing trip videos. Makes me appreciate how beautiful my country is. Also I hope you visited the big banana 😂
Just be careful if decide to go from Alice Springs to Uluru, the big cangurus are not very keen ... let's put it this way "don't stop, and don't even look at them in the eyes".
RS6 is only a little longer and wider, this is a positive for most … and better on fuel… I don’t get anywhere near as low as 16 mpg as you did in the M3, the RS6 even when enjoying dynamic mode on twisties or open roads fully stretching its legs and then get well into the 30’s on a relaxed run… mixed is around 28 mpg…. The M3 is lucky to do 22 mpg mixed. They are almost the same weight as well. Basically they do the same job a little differently and that just gives you choice to meet your own needs, saying a the ‘m3 touring is the best car’ is a bit ‘in the time’ fan boy in my opinion
Seems like a design flaw in a car with the name touring having a small fuel tank. Also the air resistance of the rack and surf board wouldn’t have helped with fuel economy.
I know they’re very different cars but in Australia the Lotus Emira and the M3 Touring are similar money - for me as a second car it’s an interesting conundrum …
Sam. I don't know which planet you just jumped off, but in no way does 16 mpg sound reasonable in a country with a 68 mph limit. Even allowing a little leeway - say you were doing 75-80 mph, I would expect an M3 to be capable of high twenties. It did sound as if it was revving its bo**ocks off though, so either you were holding it in a low gear for effect, or it has very low gearing. The small tank reminds me of criticism levelled at Mitsubishi Evo FQ's in the day.....went like hell but in the end mundane diesel 'taxi's' would pass you on a long drive due to the frequent stops for refills!
For the price the F Pace SVR is the best daily. Cheaper, sounds better, nicer interior, looks smarter, has a bigger fuel tank, is lighter and has a Supercharged V8 🤷🏼♂️
@@nickng5857 I'd beg to differ on the handling front. It may be a touch slower but you're talking what, .3 or .4 of a second to 60? Does anyone really care?? Well clearly you do but your 🍆 must be particularly small I suppose
M340i Touring. 99% of the performance you need in the UK. Mine is doing 34mpg after 20,000 miles, but still goes like a train. Ive never found it lacking, but if you did its a remap away from around 460hp. Most importantly NO FACE EVEN A MOTHER COULDNT LOVE, and nigh on £40k cheaper.. The sheer number of M3 tourings for sale new or used with large discounts shows this isnt selling as well as BMW hoped.
Like a squealing pig. Tony your laugh is infectious 😂😂😂 On a serious note, great to see you on the channel. Love the podcasts to gents, keep em coming 👍🏼
Such a cool car, too much really, being sensible an M340 would be great, but it wouldn’t be an M3… But there are over 100 M3Ts on auto trader?! Did they make too many?
Can’t believe you took an M3 onto the sand! No car would have got up the beach back to the road, let alone a low M3 with big wheels and low profile tyres. X drive or not! It’s much easier going downhill onto the beach. Getting back up is a completely different matter! Wasn’t the “buffoons” fault! You need ground clearance and decent tread tyres like the car that pulled you out! Such a British thing to do in Australia 😂😂😂
Agreed, taking a AWD on the beach is not advisable here in Australia, 100% preferable to be a 4WD and also lower tyre pressure to around 10-14 PSI depending in the softness of the sand, each beach is differnet
Pretty dumb to drive it on the beach and lucky you got rescued it is an all wheel drive not a 4WD. lucky someone rescued you and the tide didn't come in. Pretty sure BMW would be able to say you violated the loan car T&C's by doing that. You could have at least given it a wash underneath.
I love you Sam and all your videos, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, but please either take the sunglasses off or commit to wearing them please, half on and off is just the worst 😂
And, I enjoy Sam’s reports etc but Tony is a negative ignorant (of Australian cars) chap ! I suggest you offer his position to Bec Evans, and create a broader perspective to a female audience.
