The Church began 33AD and the cannon of Scripture was collated in 365. Orthodoxy has kept all the books that the Bishops from many countries, including Ethiopia, knew to be necessary to reflect what being a Christian is. I speak in the present tense bc Rome excommunicated the rest of the church in 1054, and went on to ommitt parts of the cannon that didnt agree with their altered teachings, and they continued as the gap got wider. I don't think the Ethiopian bible was illegal anywhere - it just was not in a European language, so Europeans could not read it. Catholicism was about 1,000 years old before the King James bible - which is an English translation from earlier texts. Catholics used a Latin bible in all countries until the 1960's and much later in some places. Most Europeans read the Bible in their own language, not translated from the KJV and have done since around the time of the KJV when printing made it possible for books to be widely available. Europeans have known for centuries that there are loads of translations, and that, in any case, the Old Testament was written in Hebrew, and you can ask your Jewish neighbours what it says (KJV OT is a terrible translation - which Anglicans are normally taught - one of the translators actually said at the time "Israel is a far away place, about which we know very little"). It is fairly well established that Christ was on earth 2,000 years ago, when lifestyle and language was far different to today. The official Christian today doctrine is that the Bible is a living document, and needs to be interpreted in terms relevant to your own lifetime! KJV is often read in English speaking churches because it is poetic, not because it accurately conveys historical facts. The sermon that follows a reading should explain the meaning in the current context. Apart from anything else, 15th century English is not easy to understand today. And NO - the bits in red are NOT the words Jesus spoke. He spoke Aramaic, not English - which did not exist at all for about another 1,200 years! Aramaic is quite close to Arabic, and also Amharic - the Ethiopian language. Its structure is completely different to a European language. If your church did not teach you this, you should go to another.

this is completely untrue. It is not the oldest Bible. The dead Sea scrolls are the scrolls dating back is far as 1000 years older. You can buy the dead Sea scroll Bible now it’s been translated into English. I have one and I cross referenced it with the king James version. So now we have the King James version Bible, which was created in 1611 and then we have the Dead Sea Scrolls to go back as much as over 1000 years before that. When you put the two in front of you to match up chapter and verse and the word for word it’s 95% identical. Another words, the accuracy has been maintained over all these years. Not to be little the Ethiopian Bible by any means. I’m simply saying the person who made this documentary has not done his homework at all.

I think the basic misunderstanding here is the definition of what exactly is the Word of God. I have noticed this in many videos over the years and even more conversations with other people. I think this may very well be the basic fallacy we all naturally make. I don't think I would disagree with any of the evidences shown here. There does however seem to be an implied conclusion that leads me to my aforementioned statement about definition. The word of God is not any translation per se. What I would call the Word of God is the truth that we find in the context that points us to the Eternal Word who became flesh, living a perfect life and dying an atoning death that we might be cleanse of our sins and made righteous. At a basic foundational level this is closest to the overarching message of the Bible and anything that we would look at, that would be part of the canon, would point to Jesus Himself in some way shape or form. It is only through study, prayer, and the guidance of the holy Spirit that any individual would know with any certainty that they have truth. This discernment is part of the gift of what we are given in Jesus. Anything else is essentially just truth by committee and as such only man's word. I realize that there will be many that refuse to believe this. That is exactly what Scripture tells us, Even Jesus Himself. Making an argument based on anything other than the centrality of the glory of God in the Lord Jesus Christ is at its very core just a straw man argument designed, whether intentionally or unintentionally I do not know, to distract from the free offer of the gospel in Jesus Christ that leads to salvation and eternal life in His Glory. I am Eastern Orthodox, the Ethiopian church is Oriental Orthodox, but even though all of the eastern orthodox "have the same canon" (which has more books than the Roman Catholics) there are still some EO churches who don't consider 3 Maccabees a part of the canon and some who do. I have also heard that if the EO were to recieve the OO into our church then we would likely accept their canon and they wouldn't need to change it. Different regional churches, that were a part of the Christian church before schisms, actually had different canons. They also never considered it an issue! The protestant KJV canon is in fact limited though, Martin Luther went to his local jewish community in his time in the 16th century and thought that because they didn't have certain books in their bible that the ones that weren't there in the Christian old testament shouldn't be there. That doesn't exactly work because by that point the Rabbinical Jews had added the talmud to their bible and removed books that revealed christ. Although he's already revealed in the books they have. The books that ML removed were relevant and proof of that is that the jewish holiday of Hanukkah comes from Maccabees.
