Thanks for making this, great summary of what these oilers are, what they do, and how to replace them. I've been a mechanic for years, but I rarely work on older Euro cars, and have rarely touched BMWs, Audis, or Mercs. This helped a lot with this common issue on these v8s. Thanks!
good luck with it, make sure you put a rag under the timing chain when you remove the plastic chain guides cause they will break and make sure you get new ones
Hello im going to change my oil tubes today and I have seen your video before I have all my parts needed.thanks for the video.i will be watching the rest of your helpful tips on repairs peace
Great video man, 2020 and I am coming back to this after acquiring a s500 98, with the same problem. Going to tackle this as soon as I get my parts in!
I just see in your comment I bought a 99 s500 Grand Edition same engine. I ordered everything for passenger side as well. I got the cast 1. Aluminum cam oiler tubes. 2. Spark plugs. 3.Valve cover gasket. 4. MOBILE 1 Oil / filter. 5. 2x Air filters 6. Exterior Cabin Filter 7. Timing Chain brackets for top.
That's really cool you bought a 98 w140 what color and rims etc? Crazy thing is in Germany there collector cars sell for 5x more and they treat the cars alot better, mine needs alot of love its insane how the previous owners mistreated the cars, I need to spend at least $5500 to make it near perfect, needs some paint work and polishing, Sunroof headliner, rear shocks oem Hydrolic and front suspension bushings, all wood trim has cracked from age in Texas I am sending it to California to get redone will be $1400, I talked to the wood specialist he said it doesn't matter if it's garaged some time uv light or heat cause it to crack and age, but noticed it colder states they don't have that problem.
@@brucelee9941 same with mine, needs a lot of love, I bought the cam oilers and installed them already, there 2 blown oilers.....unfortunately my uncle who was the previous owner didnt do much upkeep, but the rim size is 18in, the type I'm not to aware, when I check it out I message here again, but it's such a beautiful car, black on black......the passenger side view mirror was damaged and replaced with a off color one throwing off the black on black, but still beautiful
@@skeetmarinerah3566 was the Cam oilers on passenger side same as video? I think drivers side is more complicated, plus did you to timing chain guides as well? Or plan on it
@@brucelee9941 Yes they were on the passenger side, same as in the video, I am actually waiting on the timing chain guide since I did break it, if you haven't ordered it, do it, it really sucks waiting for this part.
Nelson I have the same problem in my S500 W140 M119 1996 engine, but I don't speak English, I use google translator, I'm going to put it in a new original plastic .
I have a 1998 Mercedes Sl 500 and when it is coldThe engine makes loud tapping noise but when it gets up to temperature the noise goes away do you think this is it
Thanks for vid bro. I did the same with my car and it is work ... But I need help bro. My w119 v8 1997 has problem with ignition coil 2 and 3 driver side . I cheng them 3 times. they work a few days then not
Bro thanks for the video. I’m waiting till the weather blows over and we get some sunshine in the UK before I crack on with mine! I have let it go on for too long and luckily left the car parked up. Did you drain the oil beforehand or do a oil change after? If so, how’s the car running? Thanks!
I just did the passenger side, because that's where the noise was, but if you gonna keep the car for a while I recommend doing both sides. just make sure you get the chain guides also on top and put cloth rags so the plastic don't drop, just do the oil change after. My car was good after, I sold it, but told the guy what I did
Question I installed the right side ignition coil on my 500sl Mercedes Benz convertible. Can't find the ground strap location on the left side of the coil bolt do I put it on the positive side of the coil or left side bolt.
Hi just wondering my 96 sl500 has a tick/tap noise and a small leak. Do you suggest the changing of the cam oil tubes would potentially fix both my issues ?
If the tapping sound is coming from the tip of the Engine I would say yes, those oil tube are there to lubricate the rocker arms. And for your oil leak... I don't think so. You just have to inspect how oil is getting out of the engine. Visually
Hey nelson did you do the driver side as well? Just checking coz i have your car now and it just started ticking again. So wanted to ask you if you have done the driver side coz if so i would have to figure out where the ticking is coming from. I only put around 2500 miles from when i boughtvthe car. Thanks ariel
@@nelynel83 hey man. Yes i gotbit from a shopnin jersey . And thank you for letting me know . Coz i suspected the driver side to be makingvthe noise. It just happened today. The car has been parked and wanted to get it cleaned after anout 5 mins of idling i heard he tap. Disbit on my other r129z thanks again man! Ill fix it tomorrow
Aluminum last longer, plastic ones will break eventually and yes it's a hood idea to replace sparks plugs if you haven't done so. They should be replaced every 40,000 miles.
@@charlenegarden716 if you're replacing them, just replace them all. If you want to see which one was bad. You can see an opening at the end of the tube which means it broke and the oil is not been retain which causes lack of lubrication to the rocker arms causing the tapping sound.
get a can of break clean and spray where the intake sits and hoses and vacuum lines if rpm goes higher the that's where your leak is. but the throttle may suck inn brake clean giving you higher rpm, so trade to make a cylinder out of cardboard and put it around the throttle
Hei man, really great video, thanks a lot. Btw, my glk 300 v6 also has tapping noise at the passenger side, there is no any tapping at cold start, but as soon as the engine warms up in a few minutes the tapping noise comes up. Is it the same case with your issue in this video or something else? Really appreciate your kind advise before i take any action.
Hey bro, I hope all is well. Answer is no, this engine is for older mercedes like 1991 to 2000. Depending on the year of your GLK, you either have a 272 engine or a 276 engine. Tapping noise at warm up on this engines could be camshaft adjuster, bad oil pump. But I would need a video to hear the noise and from what area
@@nelynel83 thanks bro, It's 2011 GLK 300 (204), M272. engine is good, no burning engine oil, here is the exact same noise that I have: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kEp2iLBMCu4.html
@@nelynel83 thanks a lot bro. I tried to send you video and replied to you, seems the messages are blocked or removed as I don't see my reply. mine is 2011 glk 300 (204) and 272. i don't know how can i send you the video.
