A few months ago I decided to change my Sertraline dose from 50mg to 100mg daily. This wasn't a decision I took lightly and I am hopeful this video helps other people who might be struggling with the idea of changing their dosage.

I have been taking Setraline (Zoloft) for over a year now and have recently changed dose from 50mg daily to 100mg daily. I take Sertraline due to ongoing mental health issues; specifically depression and general anxiety disorder. I recently realised that my anxiety was founded in agoraphobia from an incident in my childhood but aspects of my mental health have detrimentally effected my life over the past couple of decades. Sertraline has helped me make progress and until recently 50mg daily was the dose that worked. The recent pandemic negatively impacted many aspects of my life and I found myself emotionally vulnerable once again. I hesitated before asking my Dr to increase my dose because, genuinely, I felt like a bit of a failure and didn't want to feel like the progress I had made was now lost. Eventually I managed to speak to my GP over the phone and we made the decision to increase my daily Sertraline dosage from 50mg to 100mg. At first, I struggled with the side effects but I am in a better place now. Importantly I have made some lifestyle changes that have helped me significantly - I am eating better and have stopped drinking alcohol. The latter has had a significant impact on my physical and mental wellbeing. I will talk more about this change in a later video.
For now I really hope you take the time to find a good talking therapy. This is truly the best way to make progress in managing the symptoms of your mental illness. Take time to remind yourself you are doing a good job.
See you soon, peace! Join this channel to get access to perks:

No idea if you also experience these thoughts but.... I've found that every time I've bumped up my dose because it wasn't working well enough I feel more and more validated, actually. Often I get thoughts of "I'm making it up," "I'm just naturally lazy," etc. The more meds I realized I NEEDED the more I realized that I was/am *actually* mentally ill and it is of no fault of mine. The more I consider that it is simply the chemicals in my brain, the less I feel victimized and to blame. It's really helped me start to find peace with myself 🙂

Thanks for posting this! I had the same experience due to the pandemic - I was doing quite well on 50 mg Sertraline and then it all fell apart. It took quite some time for me to decide to increase the dose. I had a doctor who jumped me up from 50 to 100 in two weeks and that was too fast for me - my anxiety and panic attacks increased to the point where I couldn't stand it! So I backed off for several months but ended up in the same place, so I found a new doctor who is increasing my dose more slowly - I'm on 75 now and still having a tough time but think I'll be able to power through. I take 50 in the morning and 25 later in the day. She also gave me beta blockers for the anxiety attacks, which I take about twice a day. I'm hopeful that I'll be feeling better in time.

I just moved from 50mg to 100mg today. I've found that I'm completely put off the idea of drinking, and that's something I turned to almost every day as you said. I don't want alcohol to be a part of my life anymore if I can help it. In 2020, before I had access to therapy or medication (I asked the NHS to put me on the waiting list due to feeling s*icidal, and they didn't or forgot), I joined A.A., but it felt too cult-like and there were too many rules/expectations, and it had me thinking about and obsessing over alcohol even more, so I'm hoping that this change, and going to therapy and doing things in my life that help towards a peaceful/happier time will mean I naturally gravitate away from it for the rest of my life. Let's see what happens.

I started 100 mg a few days ago after being off them for 2 years (bad decision to get off them in the first place). It may not be the best idea to start with 100 mg directly but it's manageable, a bit restless and over-energized, borderline to anxiety. Had trouble falling asleep second night but I got up ate some food (was hungry, because the sertraline has my appetite suppressed during the day) and drank a glass of warm milk with honey. Fell asleep and slept like a baby. Really felt like an ecstasy trip the first days, subtle Euphoria and that "Christmas's eve feeling", or feeling when you are about to go on a big trip, if you know what I mean. Nothing I feel is impossible to handle. Also I was curled up in bed touching my body and stroking myself and really enjoyed it lol, basically ecstatic feeling and good thing to get in touch with your body, I just feel comfy and cozy. I hope things will calm down in a few days, first time I took them a few years ago I basically became hypomanic and became super sexual. Borderline sex addiction (that was probably triggered by drug use), nothing I regret thought so not a side effect for me. My therapist said that serotonin deficiency makes the brain and nervous system exhausted and that this medicine basically let's your nervous system HEAL itself. During night I have meaningful, vivid dreams, that could be one of those things. It's like you get in touch with your needs and your inner self. Had a lifestyle change a few weeks ago also, stopped doing drugs and so far I feel great, swimming every day and overall in a good calm mood (with slight overenergetic moments but could be the coffee).. I used amphetamine to keep myself afloat these past two years, but it doesn't heal the underlying problems and created bad sleeping hygiene occasionally and a even more severe sex addiction with self-destructive tendencies and dangerous from an STD perspective but I'm on Prep meds and thankful I didn't catch HIV. Just got tired of that lifestyle and constant partying and sex 24/7 and have had this inner will to change my life for some time. I felt I wasn't happy with myself from a bigger perspective. So I stopped one day. I'm not the stepping up or stepping down person, like to go all on or all off directly, so that's why I started with 100 mg directly, but I did it because I'm familiar with this medicine and wouldn't recommend anyone to do the same. Stepping upp slowly is definitely the way to go for most people.

Yep, it sucks. Sorry to hear it's tough to balance the need for meds with your ongoing hypochondria. I think the lower dose you can maintain on the better. I would advise giving the current dose of 50mg a few months to become the norm; having said that, your GP should start scheduling in medication reviews to make sure the dose is correct and working. The drugs don't make you happier they just remove some of the fog that prevents clarity leading to less anxiety and increased mood. Give it 2 months and then your GP should be able to advise. Appreciate your support and hope I can continue to help you!

It’s definitely worked pretty well - there are lots of issues I’m still dealing with on a very frequent basis that have their roots in childhood and family (surprise surprise eh?), but I think the medication gives me the headspace to let other therapy (EMDR, CBT etc) actually have an effect. Family shit still knocks me for six, but I recover better than before. I sure know when I haven’t taken them…!

I started Zoloft on 50mg 6 weeks ago and now I feel like it isn’t working for my anxiety. I’m probably going to the doctor and see if my doctor recommends if I should start on 100mg.

SSRIs actually cause your heart rate to go up just slightly (obviously depending on the dose) which might be triggering some anxiety. this happened for me. to combat the anxiety the best things i found was to watch caffeine and definitely talk to your psychiatrist about maybe anxiety medication or changing medicine if it is too bad

John I am on 200mg a day, I think tiredness goes with the territory, but overall a huge help.

@@darrenbealeofficial I’ve actually just been put up to 200mg last week but it’s helping only downside is the tiredness when your trying to work

@@John-cv6ps for me the tiredness effects were amplified if I was drinking any alcohol, or working long hours. I stopped all alcohol and prioritized my sleep routine, it helped tremendously

I was a dead man walking on prozac 16 hours a day I slept even after 6 months on it. I just accept that setraline won't cure me and stay on a lower dose . I function better with some anxiety than I do sleeping all day.

How do you know if to up the dose exactly?? I’ve been on 50mg for 2 months now. My mood has definitely improved, hardly no negative thoughts which is good and much more rational thoughts/thinking which is great, but I feel like the meds have only taken the edge of my social anxiety… I no longer get very anxious and my heart palpitations seem to have stoped which is good but still have like a mild social anxiety.. Does this mean my 50mg dose is working well?? Or should I increase it to 75mg or 100mg? Basically what I’m asking, is sertraline supposed to COMPLETELY get rid of anxiety or just take the edge off? 🤔

A higher dose rarely resolves the issue you have a disorder and its more about acceptance that you have these issues than a cure via a pill. I'm the same with GAD But I have tried many different medications they all had different side affects or efficacy. Apparently its more down to the shape of the neurons in a individuals brain as to whether the medication works well or not. If the reuptake of the medication isn't good then it will only do a certain amount to help. The general practitioners have very little understanding of disorders or how people suffer from them so you way way better off talking to likeminded people with disorders. I say don't talk to earthlings about alien problems talk to other aliens I got my understanding of mental health through personal experience over a 30 year period . Harry Potter probably won't wave a magic wand and cure us. Disorders are for life not just for Xmas. Join a walk and talk for mental health via Facebook that is better than any medication.
