My favourite lens isn't for the faint of heart. I love my Sigma ART 105mm f/1.4. It's big and fun and can create a look rivaled only by the 200mm f2.

Thanks ladies. Another great video. Both the 50mm and 85mm are essential to have in one's repertoire. You did a good job explaining the benefits of both lens! Always appreciate you both!

I use the 18-200 mm. It has been the only lens I've ever owned. Been using it for almost 14 years now. I love not having to change lenses, seems to do everything I need it to but having said that, I have nothing to compare it to either. Thanks for a great video. You two are so very helpful. I've learned so much.

my favorite was the 50 until i saw your bts of a family of 3 with the 85 which i had but mostly stayed home. i have had it out more since that video and fell in love. i still use the 50 for 4 or more people and also for some theater and concert. its amazing in low light. dogs is all 85 or 18-135 3.5 which is a great portrait lens as well for moving kids

I have an 85 and it’s by far my favorite lens BUT I have an APS-C sensor camera so I have to stand so far away from my subject to get the composition I want. But the look of the images and compression is amazing. I do have the “nifty fifty” but it’s never been as creamy as my 85 focal length. I do hope to get a 35 prim or signa 18-50 soon

I have the my R50mm and the 15-85mm Ef-s with adapter on my new R50 camera. I love both lenses and I use the 50mm most of the time because of the size. The 15-85mm is a work horse for close ups and distance with very sharp results up to 70mm distance, after that I have to adjust the sharpness of my work.😊😊😊

I bought both of them, but I do not use them at the same time. I use the 50 in the following 3-lens kit: 24mm (use for large group portraits, landscape, street, architecture) 50mm (use for general subjects, full-length portraits, street, architecture, landscape) 105mm (use for head & shoulder portraits, street) I use the 85 in the following 3-lens kit: 21mm (use for street, landscape, large group portraits, architecture) 35mm (use for general subjects, landscape, group portraits, street, architecture) 85mm (use for head & shoulder portraits, street)

I use the 50mm 1.8 on my crop sensor camera but get a bit nervous because of no image stabillization. Should I use a tripod? Thank you

Been using my 85mm more and more. Still keep my 50mm on me for those tight spaces. Sometimes I might be on a trail and don't have the room I need with the 85mm. Then out cokes the 50mm to the rescue. Almost want a second body but just not there yet in terms of need and cost

I’m surprised to hear you say you use a 50 mm 1.8. It seems like everyone makes it seem like you have to have the 1.4 or 1.2. Thanks for your great videos!

Nvm bokeh the main benefits of the longer focal length is the background compression to help isolate the subject when the background isn't that interesting and the slimming of the models face. Look how broad the face of the lady is in that 50mm portrait. That being said I always grab my 85 1.4 unless I'm forced into a 50 due to constraints.
@joansmith7649
@joansmith7649 Год назад
Generally subjects shot with an 85mm lens appear to have broader fatter faces than subjects shot with the 50mm lens.The image shown in the video clearly shows that the subject in the image shot with 50mm appears to have a narrower longer face than the same subject in the image shot with the 85, but this is not the lenses fault per se but rather a function of the subject-lens distance. Further distance = fatter broader faces, tiny nose and big ears. Shorter distance = narrower faces, larger noses and smaller ears. Because the 85mm lens provides more magnification than the 50mm lens, the subject is generally shot further away when using the 85mm lens. And this greater subject-lens distance is what causes the perspective changes and the fatter faces, not the lens itself.

I have a 50 and 35mm with rebel t6i. With the 50mm I feel like I'm always backing up to get the shot. Whether it's one or a group. You're saying I should be able to get closer with the 50mm.🤷‍♀️ Am I doing something wrong...lol I feel like I can get closer with my 35mm. I'm so confused...haha! (Clearly a beginner 😊)

The 85 is my favorite. But when I had my canon my 35 was *chefs kiss. Question tho. Would y’all use a 50mm for like a group of 10 people?

Hi , I love my Nikon 50 mm however sometimes I need to shoot large groups . I’m struggling with getting everybody in the frame . I’m using a Nikon D 5000 . It’s Not a full frame ( I ❤) it but it’s not ideal for huge group shots sometimes in tight spaces . Where I don’t have room to go further back . Do you have suggestions maybe my settings are wrong ? I’m thinking about getting a second body a Nikon 6 11 kit it’s a 24 to 70 mm . Please advise! I’m so frustrated!

I had a similar struggle, and realized I had forgotten to take the crop factor into account. Since I was shooting with a 50mm full frame lens on a crop sensor camera (with a crop factor of 1.5), it was like I was really shooting with a 75mm. So if you want closer to a 50mm angle of view, you would need to shoot with something like a 35mm, or change your camera body to a full frame.

As long as the lens mount on the Yongnuo is for Nikon, it will work.
