I have to point out that the editing in the videos is really getting to be next level. The cuts and sound effects and whatnot are all so great.

The fact that the tools work after a year of the intensive use you put them through is impressive. Glad you included the noise factor which is often very important, but ignored as "cost of doing business" for some reason.
@MrBloodySerb

Another pro is you can use it inside closed space without ventilation. If you need to cut something in your garage.

@ Chainsaw makes bigger chunks of wood than dust. It also needs big flame to ignite. Woodshops would blow up all the time.

I was diagnosed with COPD/emphysema 20 years ago and using any 2stroke engines quickly leaves me gasping for air. So one more Pro: for both tools is that they don't damage your lungs. We have mains powered small trimming chainsaw, lawn 'weed whacker' style line trimmer, and a small electric lawn mower. Downsides are same as you've pointed out, with one more Con: Needs to run mains extension cords around usually wet lawns and avoid cutting into the, which isn't always easy...
@astroidea
@astroidea 2 года назад
I got an electric weed whacker last year, and the only complaint is the battery only lasts 20mins. But the lack of noise and vibration over a traditional gas one is worth it.

Thank you for being so diligent in using them for so long before sharing your experiences. For future reference, I would have liked an opinion on if the pros outweigh the cons for you and if you regret or don't regret the purchase (especially the chainsaw since your opinion seemed a bit more mixed, but then the brushcutter has broken down twice already).

Electric tools are far more easier to repair in my opinion. Even if motor burns out, you can simply rewire it. And to be honest, it's hard to beat Stihl. It's very old and experienced company. My father used one of those 20 years ago, very reliable and solid piece of equipment.

So I've already been watching your whole series from the beginning, but it just so happens that I desperately need to sharpen my chainsaw. Seeing that sharpening tool was serendipitous as I was watching videos on how to sharpen and I didn't even have the right file size. Looked up that tool instead and got it as it files the cutter plate AND the depth gauge at the same time. Easy! I'll figure out the art of it later. For now, I just need a sharp saw.

Kind of but running a chain only requires a couple fuel ups of gas . To run an electric saw that long would require 10 to 12 charged batteries and they are $75 each. So also very expensive to use the electric saw. So for very small jobs where they are only needed for a short time they are fine. But for profesional jobs where you need to cut for 7-8 hours a day that are not appropriate.

Having used both kinds of saw extensively, I think of them as different tools for different applications. The electric saw is best if you’re only working for a short time or a few cuts, because you get the smaller weight, quiet, and no exhaust. But if you have a huge amount of work and you’re going to work all day, the electric saw just won’t keep up.

Cool video. You can't talk about how beneficial a cordless electric device without reffering to battery wear and end of life. Also, I know some companies allow to store many batteries in a pack on your back, which reduces the need to swap battery every so often and makes the device held in hand very light. Much lighter than the gas powered one. I think it is a major pro if you work for long periods of time because the weight is distributed much better on your body

I love my 80V Greenworks chainsaw and other 80V greenworks tools (weed trimmer and leaf blower). I’ve been using it a lot for 4 years now and it buzzes through hardwood better than my 45cc gas chainsaw. Prior to this electric chainsaw I had used Stihl and Husqvarna chainsaws since the 80s. BTW One “chops” wood with an axe and “cuts” wood with a saw/chainsaw!

@-htl-

Great video. Love the simplicity of the electric. However the other difference is that was a baby Stihl and you can get many types and bigger ones. The small tooth is not for shappening it is for saw depth and as the chain gets older it needs to be levelled down.. PS Stihl has a tricky start up procedure. With practise and frequent use if you got that right it starts in one pull.

It's not recommended by manufacturers, but I use vegetable oil as a bar oil, because it's cheap and relatively biodegradable. I've heard of others using veg oil with mushroom spores to encourage mushroom growth in their land
@Marcuslobenstein

It will gum up the oil channels as vegetable oil oxidizes.
@tatehewitt4220
@tatehewitt4220 2 года назад
@@Marcuslobenstein honestly I haven't had issues with it at all, and i've been doing this for several years. Also, while some oils oxidize readily (safflower, sunflower, canola) many do not, and instead go rancid long before drying out (soybean, olive, oliveseed). At least where I am, what's sold as "vegetable oil" is generally soybean oil.

Nice review, I have the same models of chain saw and brushcutter. Also I could recommend Makita wood chipper UD2500 (actually the have just one model), really cool thing. Of course not so powerful like yours neighbours chipper powered by tractor. Dave I was wondering what you do with cutted grass and bushes? Did you try to gather it for composting? There is an opinion that not harvested grass prevents the growth of new grass. If yes, what tool do you use for this?

I have that saw and it's fantastic two years on, the most important part of any saw is the chain, i have oregan chainsaw files and a guide which i use little and often (one stroke of the file on each tooth every time i use it). I recommend vanon batteries for makita products, they are half the price and slightly more powerful.

Gasoline and oil gotta be mixed up first and you always end up smelling like a gas station. The electric tools can also be fixed easily, even you have less parts to break. The noise of gas tools is also pretty important as you dong get your head buzzing after heavy use. Gas tools are only for professionals but those will soon be replaced by electric buldozzers and cranes. Electric is only taking off now.

You could put (Amazon-) Referral/Affiliate-Links at the bottom of your inbox of stuff that you like and that are shown in the videos. You get some money but the people who use the link don’t have to pay more 2. Have you ever thought about Live-streaming some of your work like cleaning areas, building stuff, etc? Maybe that could be another way of income. And you could use the footage in your videos.

Cutting every thing from trees, pallets and old construction lumber with nails an awfulness in it. It runs like a champ. So damn good that when i finally slowed down a little I bought a new one just like it so now I have it as a backup saw and backup spare parts for the new saw. We heat our house with firewood and I sell firewood one the side so I use it a lot.

I assume you are using the wood to cook food. How about the smaller stuff? Are you burning it or just piling it someplace to let it degrade?

I forget which video, but some expert guests strongly recommended they use a wood chipper in order in order to build up the soil. PK agreed, but they want to get one that's an attachment to a tractor so they don't end up wasting money buying multiple engines/supply trains. But tractors are very expensive, so they've made it a high priority on their fundraising goals. They have a neighbor who visits semi-frequently with a wood chipper. I don't recall where they put all the cut dead wood & brush before it gets chipped.

Nice review, was wonder how the tools were working out, Eventually you will probably get away from brands & back to fundamentals, the makita is only 2 rows of 5x 18650 batteries in parallel as you get a electrian /electrical engineer on board you could create simple custom chargers, create a wired 18/36v adapters directly from you solar power A maul & wedges is great for seasoned wood, you really shouldn't bother cutting everything if it's bone dry anyway, it should break handy enough I find a reciprocating saw much better/safer for awkward trees & heights Fast growing trees probably have shallow roots, a good leverage bar might just pop them out in some areas
