I was positive that encoder was shorted the second you showed it. Someone definitely messed with that, probably bridged the joints. It looked horrible. Nice fix! love this channel
I can do everything micro soldering but I struggle with these encoders. Hate QFN's. And I made the exact same mistake on the F7003 "fuse" pulling the resistor thinking it was a fuse as well and caught my mistake later. It's deceiving by where it's labeled to where it's located at on the board. Its not just me lol. Nice fix as always Tolt!
@@ngonohtc5724 the chip doesn't matter if it's Ali Express or not they're all the same chip lol. It depends on the board you're working on. Everyone has their own method of installing with preferred temps but when installing I would say 420-440c is a good temp since you're using leaded solder and is a safer temp on the chip.
Great video! Im having this same problem with mine after a electrical storm it actually knocked out my tv and ran through the hdmi. Im going to try to tackle this myself i already took off the encoder chip and checked everywhere else you did and didnt find anymore shorts so i hope this will fix the problem when the chip comes in. I havent tackled this kind of soldering yet but i guess now is a good time to try since the system is broken anyways. Please let us know whet temp your running your soldering iron and is it in C or F? Also can you tell us what type of solder exactly? Thanks again for the help you give all of us! PS. i was able to find that it was my main board on my tv that got zapped and i was able to order a replacement and it worked thank god but replacement ps5 boards dont come cheap!
What do you call those rods you use to maintain the ventilator connector ? It's such a good trick, I want to try it out. What I'm used to do right now is use a piece of wick, overflow it with solder to make a nice big pad, but those rods look so great lol. Nice video as always !
Hi. Thanks! It was a lead cut from a through-hole resistor. I have a small drawer full of them from past projects. They come in handy for jumpers and such.
Dear, I'm from Brazil, and I'd like to know, on the EDM-030 motherboard, what is the capacitance and voltage of the capacitors around the HDMI IC (MN 864739).
12:25 - 14:05 = 1min 30seconds. Did you ever experienced popcorn board because of too much heat? 27:43 - Its not only about customers, also do not listen to another service engineer because they also do mistakes, without bad intentions. Follow your own process flow of fixing problems. 30:09 - I saw one guy soldering connectors using desoldering wick instead of wire you placed. Like 1-2mm wide braid, it will hold good. Just an idea.
I can't say I have ever popcorned a PS4 or PS5 board. I may not have shown it but I am using a pre-heater and heating the entire board up slowly over like 10-15 minutes. When the board gets up to like 110C, then I start with hot air from above. I've seen others using solder braid and I'm sure that would work as well. I just happen to have a pile of cut component leads left over from through-hole projects so I use those.
@@ToltecMerc It would help I believe, if for all future videos, you have list of equipment you use, linked in video description... as detailed as possible would be nice.
The last ones I bought were from AliExpress. The vendor was GARYMA Elec. Store. It may just be luck of the draw. I think most of the sellers on AliExpress are just resellers that buy the part somewhere else and resell to you.
My ps5 got zapped from I assume the tv. Tv is dead along with everything that was connected to it. Ps5 only beeps and will not go into safe mode, 12v coming from the power supply is good. Then I noticed the encoder chip is reading grounded. Could this be my power issue?
@@ToltecMerc thanks, I ordered an encoder chip and I have soldiering experience but not micro soldering. I have a hot air station and soldiering iron. But I’m gonna try it. Guess I have nothing to lose lol
@@ToltecMerc well I replaced the encoder ic and it powers up now and goes to white light but no signal to tv. I noticed I knocked off one of the capacitors next to the ic in the process no idea where it went. No idea where to get one
It could be the encoder. It could also be bad solder connection on the port or an open output filter. There are four differential pair outputs. If one half of a pair is open, it will try to work but have a lot of noise.
I messed up with my repair of the HMDI encoder chip, accidentally removed 2 small capacitors to right and 1 to the top of the chip. They are so tiny! Would anyone know what kind of capacitor they are?
If one side of the capacitor is ground, it is likely a small bypass capacitor. If neither side is ground, it is likely coupling a signal and could be critical.
@@ToltecMerc as a kind of hobby I look for electronics in dumpsters and curbside stuff. Recently found a Sony PS 4. Not sure if it fully works. Has the HDD still mounted. Needs cleaning! Thank you 🤓
Awesome absolutely brilliant work It's a shame Sony have built such a junk games console these things break again and again and again absolute 🗑️ trash
