A classic aircraft I never got to fly on, save the Vickers VC10. I see another classic in the video. A Hawker Siddley Nimrod, now that's one former Hawker Siddely built aircraft I did get to go on, a few times when I was in the ATC. Looks like this one was from former RAF Kinloss, seeing as it's an MR2 type.

Well done but you should know the Trident wasn't specifically for domestic routes.from the late 60's to the mid 80's it served as the primary BEA carrier to all European destinations.I first flew on it in 1969 from Lhr to Lisbon.

BEA, then BA as BEA and BOAC merged into BA in 1974

You've got to love the individual names of the aircraft companies we had back then. Now all we're left with, is the bland sounding BAe.

The off set nose leg so no frames were cut through making the aircraft stronger, Is that the forth rocket engine at the back ???? AND we would say the only reason the thing got airborne was due the the earth being curved !i😗 I use to work with a chap that built them, he told me following the super stall where the aircraft fell from the sky killing all, it included engineering staff out for the jolly, the flight engineer was a personal friend of Cunningham the other test pilot ( not flying that day ) who suspected what a super stall was and the danger it presented bollocked the capt all the way down for getting the aircraft into a super stall, they tried every combination to retrieve the situation nothing they did helped. ! Cunningham went into the stall with one wing down the capt on this flight went into the stall wings level and a super stall developed !! Hawkers so the story goes decided to put a swan neck in from the flight deck to the lower side of the aircraft, this would allow the crew to "bail out" should a super stall be accidentally entered I always thought it a tall story, until one day on the pan at MAN i noticed an older Trident i noticed a circular pattern of rivets where if fitted the swan neck would emerge, so perhaps it wasn't such a tall story after all The last few built went to China, The aircraft was originally designed to be far larger alas BEA downsized it and that was it the video. Rgds Sisaket Thailand.

1 music too loud there was Trident 1 2 and 3s did you know they actually had to shorten the wings to get it to park it where it is????

The wings were already shortened by BA at Heathrow in 1994 I believe. When we moved it to MAN, it was somewhat fortuitous as it meant it fitted more easily.

We had one at perth scotland aerodrome in the early eighties Isaw it landing with some difficulties as runway was a bit short,then used for training purposes afterwards, just remembering the good old days with air service training.

I flew on a trident for the first ( and only time ) in 85 from LHR - MAN , such a classy aircraft at the time and for an aviation geek it was thrilling for me . After arriving i went to visit the Manchester Air and Space museum . I was due to return to LHR the same evening on a Trident but I missed my flight so stayed overnight and flew back on a 757 the next morning 😊

I travelled as a passenger on Trident 3B, G-AWZM, a sistership to the one in the video, from LHR to Madrid in June 1979. Beautiful airplane. I was talking with the flight attendants in the mid-galley after the service. They told me how happy they were on the Trident fleet, and how unhappy they were that BA was acquiring 737s which they described as unstable and not good in turbulence.

Flew on a Trident from Geneva to ( supposedly LHR) in 1975 , we ended up at Cardiff because of fog at LHR. I was 9 , all I remember is 6 hours on a coach back to London and massive condensation on the interior of the Trident; that wasn’t very reassuring to see 😀.
@cjmillsnun
@cjmillsnun 2 месяца назад
I'm surprised by that, because the Trident's party trick was the ability to autoland in zero visibility.

@@cjmillsnun just checked my BOAC Junior Jet Club book … flight was 20th Dec 1975 Trident 3 G-AWYZ Zurich to Cardiff 636 miles, London was crossed out & Cardiff written above it. Perhaps Heathrow was just full up with planes. Suffice to say I don’t insist on getting my book updated these days… although there is still free space left in the book 😁. My one mistake was that it was Zurich not Geneva.

Thanks for that. I used to be a tour guide initially on Concorde, but later also the RJ, Trident, DC10, and Nimrod. I started in 2004 when the Concorde tours first started, and retired from it some years ago. After I retired from my real job, I was able to spend more time at the RVP and did Airport tours and education presentations to colleges and schools. They were great days (mostly!) and it's good to see WK again. The Trident with the shortest wing span! (They were cropped to take up less room when she was a training aid at Heathrow). I must come back and visit my beloved Concorde again some day. She's the one I really miss!

Totally incorrect and disrespectful to the two co-pilots.The enquiry did conclude that it was possible Capt Stan Key suffered a heart attack at some point but the primary cause was the premature retraction of the “Droop”, the leading edge slats. Normal speed for retraction was 225-250kts, the aircraft was in the initial climb at approx 180kts and immediately entered a deep stall which is unrecoverable in a high T-tail aircraft. It was never established who made the premature “droop up” selection or why.
