54-40 one of the best Canadian bands ever but dam are they ever EVER So underrated. The Tragically Hip which is a great band but I don't understand why 54-40 never got that respect & love?
I'm not sure they lack respect I mean these guys are so typically canadian. As Canadians we have been blessed with some major music makers that I know I've been listening to for the last 30 years may be longer as I am 40.
I agree completely Sudsy (no disrespect Shayne - how typically Canadian!) I think they are fantastic - music & lyrics and production - and that's even before we get to the 'hits'! These guys are amazingly talented - and yes, love the late Downy and T-Hip, ..but gonna go with these guys.
To be a true Canadian you have to love this band. They are not singing crap like doing and selling drugs and glamourising drugs,cheating on each other and murder and crime due to drugs.They are singing about issues that have been going on in the world for many years.Important issues that are real and not glamourised.Mainstream music today is just glamourising issues that should not be glamourised.
I remember a long time ago 5440 was doing a show every 30 minutes at the Red River Ex in Winnipeg and I actually got to like their music. Now their songs have become good memories from a time long ago.
Since When is one of my top 3 songs of all time. Love the rest too. Seen them many times and I agree. They are so good. One of the best Canadian and, heck, anywhere bands.
Always love coming back to this video clip. Searing keyboard intro. Slow, steady crescendo. Subtley yet powerful vocals. Awesome song. One of my favorites. Cleveland, wake up! 54-40 belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Wow - I've been loving these individual songs for so long but I either never remembered or made the connection that they were all from the same band!! My kids started listening to and playing these tunes and they got me interested again in the band. These guys are AWESOME and they should be proud of the gifts they have given all of us.
Found this song cuz a friend said she thought the singer sounded like me and I totally hear it...very different styles, very similar tones and inflections
+mongrelmind1 We definitely wanted to rid the name of the apostrophe to make the transition to URL easier... and who says you can't have plural neighbors with dogs? As for the 'u', we were partially thinking of a worldwide audience for the series so that is part of our excuse. (I swore I read on Wikipedia that the spelling sans 'u' was more common in western Canada?) As well, we once calculated that since every single letter uploaded to the internet has a tiny (and I mean infinitesimal!) carbon footprint because it is stored on servers all over the world and displayed on electronic monitors everywhere, we were saving energy and therefore reducing any possible negative impact of our show on the planet as a whole. :-D
Joy2Rode very good question. We have not as yet put an album together. Perhaps we should get a poll together to select a song or two from each show and get them released somehow.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
