After owning the mower for 6 months I give an updated review of the 54” Ryobi Electric Zero Turn mower. It can cut 3-4 acres on a single charge.

Ego is made in China. The Ryobi is headquartered in Japan. I chose not to buy large purchases from China because I do not consider them “friendly” to our American way of life. Therefore, Ryobi is a good choice for this product. It appears Ryobi is going to release an 80V series of riding lawn mowers which uses both 80V and 40V batteries (included in the purchase price). Don’t know the price of that series yet, but covers 30”, 42” and 54” decks. Biggest drawback for me is not having a bagger system for picking up leaves. I assume that requires more power/force to throw grass clippings and leaves into a bagging system. Might require another motor for best results?? Thanks for the update. Let us know how the 2nd seasons goes.

I have had my Ryobi mower for about 8 months, and at 20 hours had to replace all the batteries. At first, I could mow all 3 acres on a change, it got to a point I had to charge it 3 times to mow the same 3 acres. So, I am on my second set of batteries so far.
@goddom

That sucks. Do you leave it plugged in when not in use? Not sure if it helps or not, I am just curious.

@crazypostman - I just cut my yard with it. My previous riding lawn mower was the cheapest riding mower with a 46" deck I could get and didn't have an hour meter, so I have no idea how many hours a riding mower usually gets. I might use mine to pull a cart at some point, bu not yet.

Hello, thanks for the comment. I guess I messed up the ">" lol, probably was editing while to tired and missed it! For the replacement blades, they have them in stock now. I bought a set and they came directly from Home Depot to my door in 2 days, so that isn't an issue any more. For me, it only takes about 45min to cut all my property, and its not straight cuts, so I think if you had a more open even yard it will be faster.

I know you don't seem too active but I was wondering how your battery was doing this year. I was interested in one last year and saved your video because I was curious how the lead acid battery would hold up. I'm seeing a bunch of these for sale on marketplace near me for around $1,500, even though they're only a year old normally used a few times. I'm afraid people didn't store them properly and found out during their first mow this year that the battery lost enough to capacity to no longer be usable. Almost every new review I've seen sings it's praises but I haven't really seen any updates.

Hello, I am still active and will post about my mower this year. I haven't actually started it up yet since this is probably the first warm weekend and the grass is just starting to grow. So I might do my first cutting next weekend and will let you know. So far the batteries have been holding up.

@@goddomI'm sure you knew well enough to leave it plugged in over the winter, but apparently a lot of people didn't and there's a few for sale by honest folks that Warren, the the battery capacity is around half due to it setting all winter with a dead battery. I'm curious to hear if you have any battery lost at all after storing it properly (If not a used one could be a fantastic deal)

Hi , my land was not arable. have some uphill and slopes. How this machine running at slopes? And how long the battery last? 1.5hr mowing?
@goddom
@goddom 2 года назад
I have a couple small hilly sections, so I am not sure I can answer this really well. On the hills I do have it seems to do fine. The manual says to cut going straight up and down the hill. I think when I cut I am usually only cutting for about 1hr and that gets me through almost 3 acres.

Pretty well. My yard has a few areas that are pretty rutted and a lot of gravel roads on the property and it hasn't really given me much issues. Occasionally I will start spinning one wheel, but I back up and try a different angle.

I have the 42 inch. It will stop mid cut and not move. Gives off 8 beeps in sequence. Wont move but the blades will engage. If i let it sit for 15 20 minutes it will run for awhile and quit again. Real pain in the butt

So I know that this vid has been out for a while, but I wanted to comment on the EPA findings. How in the Heck can a 30cc leaf blower produce as much as a, Lets just guess and say a newer vehicle at 1.6l or 1600cc. How is that even a comparison. 1 hour of running a leaf blower doesn't even compare to a car Even IDLING! I'm just saying that the engine size comparison alone disproves this statement. (I know that it isn't Matt saying this but still...)
@goddom
@goddom 2 года назад
Yep, I understand where you are coming from, I have no idea lol. Without looking into the numbers I am wondering if its because the catalytic converter and not being a 2 cycle engine makes the cars that much cleaner... but it does seem like the numbers are wildly disproportionate.

Dylan, I guess this is your opinion. I can't imagine that making gas powered engine, drilling for oil to fuel and lube it, and then emmitting all sorts of emissions when its running is any better than an electric mower with easily recyclable lead batteries.

@@goddom where do you think the electricity for your electric mower is coming from? A solar farm? Most likely not .
@goddom
@goddom 2 года назад
True, it varies per state and region. For me is about 30% coal, 30% natural gas, 20% nuclear, and the rest is renewables and hydro electric.

You've had it for 6 months and used it 10 hours? How come? A leaf blower cleans these machines gas powered brothers just fine.
@goddom
@goddom 2 года назад
I should get a leaf blower! I have been using a air nozzle on my air compressor :-) Is 10hrs a lot or a little? It usually take me about 3/4hr to do all the cutting I need to do, and I cut about once a week. Sometimes longer if I am out of town for the weekend.
@unclegeorge7845
@unclegeorge7845 2 года назад
@@goddom 10 hours in 6 months is 1.5 hours a month. It just seems very little use. I guess because it is used that infrequently electric is the only smart choice. I do 3 or 4 runs a week at a minimum of 30 minutes so the gas (Mr. Mower is ten years old - no electric option at the time of purchase) stays fresh. I'm much better operator now that it takes two minutes to clean up my mower at the end of the run with Ryobi leaf blower.
@goddom
@goddom 2 года назад
Yeah, I usually cut about once a week in the summer, and miss a few weeks - memorial, 4th of July, etc. And I think I spend about 30-40min each time. Thats to cut 2-3 acres, so its pretty quick I guess. I really am bad about cutting my yard regularly and often the mower has to power through thicker grass.
@stevemellinger3776
@stevemellinger3776 2 года назад
Sorry, this doesn't compare to the Ego Z6. If you run out of battery life you have to remove the car battery sized batteries and they're not easy to get to. The Ego battery works with all Ego outdoor tools and pop in and out easily. The Ryobi doesn't match the power of the Ego. For $5K go with the Ego trust me. There is reason it's #1 in the industry for non commercial.
@goddom
@goddom 2 года назад
The Ego mower comes with 4 batteries. To get full potential you need to buy 2 more - at about $1000 total. Brings the cost from $5500 to $6500. If you need to mow more than 2 acres, you will need to buy 4 more batteries on top of the extra 2. Which means you need to spend an extra $3,000 total just in extra batteries to match what the Ryobi can do. Now, I think the Ego is built better and its nice that you can - if you have extra batteries - mow for an infinite amount of time/acreage because you can swap batteries.
@stevemellinger3776
@stevemellinger3776 2 года назад
@@goddom The four batteries that come with the Ego charge in an hour or two then you're ready to go. I also can pop in batteries from my push mower, weed eater and so on. I understand too that Ryobi has had many battery problems. They will charge to 100% and then drop to half. Also people that have two acres usually have the money to purchase two more batteries. I have a 1/3 acre and don't need them
