Question: If ever in the future I want to get a used refurbished one on Ebay.... Should I be looking for a particular model? I mean, I see G2, G4, Diamond....Sentria.... Is there really any difference? Also.... are there any particular sellers and what $$ should you pay? I see some refurbished ones for like $245 but with shipping ends up around $310
I bought a Kirby Heritage in '84 and it's still going strong! It's built like a tank with all metal and has centered suction for efficient cleaning. Dyson is all marketing......
I used To sell Kirbys back in the early 90s, I used to love it when someone would pull a Dyson out of their cupboard. Their marketing was strong back then, such that every Dyson owner was always very confident against the old fashioned looking beast. Of course you know the rest. I've got 2 94 models, one from the time and one I picked up a couple if years back, both going strong.
The Kirby vacuum cleaner is "marketed exclusively door-to-door - often to people who cannot afford a $2700 gadget, but succumb to the sales pitch nonetheless." In 2001, the West Virginia Attorney General obtained thousands in refunds and credits for dissatisfied Kirby buyers.
The marking/sales is downright criminal, it’s a damn shame because the vacuum is incredible. I actually sold these things for a while and it was an absolutely horrible experience. These things practically sell themselves and the outrageous high pressure and unethical sales policies of some of these Kirby franchises actually hurt sales, and give the company a bad name.
The newer Dyson Ball Animal 2 has better airflow at the head, about 77cfm as tested by Vacuum Wars. The Animal 3 might do even better. That's good for a cyclonic bagless vacuum from what I understand. The newest Dysons have slightly more air flow at the hose than Kirby's do. Based on that the Kirby is much better than a Dyson for deep cleaning but the Dyson might have a slight advantage for using hose attachments.
Oh yes Latest Dyson uprights have nice airflow and very good suction. I was surprised how well it did in Vacuum Wars test. I never use Kirby hose because I find it unpractical, but it certainty can deepclean. Dyson has really stepped up their vacuums 👍
@@vacuumtests9225 Why is it unpractical? You buy a one Kirby and never another vacuum for the rest of your life. Remember, Kirby will completely refurbish your vacuum to factory new condition one time for the original owner... even 25 years after purchasing.
Dysons main goal is to expel cleaner air than the air in your home (typically 50 times cleaner). What good is the best vacuum if it leaks dust, dirt and debris through the bag into the air you breathe. Not to mention you will need to dust more with a vacuum that does not have a HEPA filter for that very reason. Dyson popularized the use of the HEPA filter (including one for the carbon that from the electric motor) which does reduce flow as a result of clean exhaust. Dyson cleans your home air and floors at the same time. For an comprehensive test between the two, monitor the dust particles while vacuuming and if the Kirby wins I'll buy it lol

Actually Kirby weight doesn't matter, because the cleaning head has manual height adjustment so performance depends what height setting is being used. In this test cleaning head was set to pretty high setting due to the high pile rug. Dyson cleaning head is free floating 😃

This was just a "friendly" reminder what happens when we compare high airflow vacuum to low airflow vacuum on this type of rug/carpet. No matter how good the cleaning head is if the vacuum doesn't have power it's going to perform like this 😊

@@vacuumtests9225 A brand new Kirby costs over $3500. I know this because I recently had a Kirby salesman come to my door (obnoxiously pushy, btw). So even if YOU got the Kirby for less than a Dyson, that still doesn't take away from the fact that the Kirby costs 7x more than a brand-new Dyson, which Dysons are in the ballpark of $500. Even if by some chance, you got the Kirby for less than $500, then what you did was get a $3500 vacuum at an abnormally low price, one which the average person cannot replicate. Anyone can buy a brand-new Dyson for $500 if they can afford it because that's the standard price for a Dyson without any special sales or deals. However, not everyone can get a Kirby for
The Kirby he is using is 24 years old and can be found for around $100 with the accessories if you shop around. The Dyson costs much more than that. My current Kirby is a 2014 Sentria II I found for free out in the garbage with accessories and bags and belts. I spent maybe $60 to replace the broken fan and service the tech drive system . It is an amazing machine to use. They are meant to be repaired, not replaced. This is why they are a good deal. BTW, the cost of a new Kirby is about $2200 online as of this writing and a new Dyson is about $800. One is made of aluminum and the same polymer as a Glock and the other is ABS and PVC plastics.0

I got the Dyson animal 3 for $380 from Walmart so I have no idea where this $800 is coming from. And checking Amazon, it’s still less than $400. And their top of the line is $600. So I don’t know what you’re looking at.
@jtlbb2 The higher the salesman can sell it to you for the more they make. I managed to talk ours down to $300 from $2500. Just had to film me cutting old vacuum in half with a chainsaw.
