I am so happy to see that a man that appreciates her like you do, has been fortunate to obtain her. I am happy to help should you have questions, and it is good to see that you are open to the support. We all had a beginning, and first time for everything, and I can tell you will pick up the TriFive know how in short order. Not being afraid to go for it is the key. Be gentle with her, and she will continue to reward you. Great story behind it all, and very well owned since her journey began, and today she once again will be taken care of. Good on you and I wish you the best. Thank you for sharing.

For sure you and your family have a excellent 55 Chevrolet. That car looks extremely solid body wise for a 55. You haven't showed floor pans yet but from what you have showed it is an excellent shape for the year. You will figure out the fuel problem. Keep up the good work. A lot of people would love to have a 55 in that condition to start with.

If the carb is working, it may need to be rebuilt later. It's a 210 two door Sedan. I had a 1956 210 four door Sedan. It had a column shift with overdrive. It was two-toned baby blue and white. I was 16. My mother sold her. It took me a long time to get over it. Plan on rebuilding or buying slave cylinders and new brake shoes.

Do some basic troubleshooting. Disconnect the output of the fuel pump to see if it's pumping. Also, gravity feed fuel directly from the roof to the carb.

@billywird Год назад
Yes sir as I mentioned before there are rebuild kits available for those fuel pumps but you may have to go outside of your local auto parts store to obtain what you need. That is most likely a Carter fuel pump. You have nothing to lose by gingerly disassembling the pump and you may find that it is gummed up. Beings that it is not the original pump it may come apart without damage to the diaphragm and gaskets. Those pumps can be obtained if you can get the part number for that pump. Some of your sources such as Chevys of the 40s have those pumps and kits, you can pull the pump and manually operate the pump and it should suck and blow air. also can put a hose in gasoline and attach it to the suction side of the pump. The pump really consists of the diaphragm and two check valves in order to work. I had a Holley fuel pump on my hot rod engine and it quit on me (naturally on the side of the road) but when I got it to the shop I found the suction side check valve had actually vibrated out of its seat (I don't believe that it was properly seated). This Holley pump is actually a Carter fuel pump. Back in the seventies I put one of those Carter (a high performance one called a "zip pump") fuel pump on my 56 Chevrolet hot rod and I mean to tell you I had consistent fuel. That car you have is referred to as a 2dr sedan. If it is not a sedan then it is referred to as a 2dr hardtop. Just a note the windshield in a 2dr sedan and a 2dr hardtop are different. I would also assume that the back glass is different as well. On the 56 Chevrolet that came from Granddaddy one thing we did not do was to remove the front and back windshield glass and replace the rubber (it was old and cracked and of course leaked) We just did not want to take a chance of cracking the glass but we could have cut the rubber and removed the windshields (I call them that even though the back glass is referred to different) and when it came to reinstalling the glass taking it to the glass shop and have new rubber installed along with the glass (and never leave your glass with the shop for later installation as you may not ever see it again) Yes sir put you a new fuel tank in that car and make sure the lines are clean, good fuel pump and carburetor overhaul (soaking in carb cleaner and installing a kit) will get your fuel system squared away. These cars are old and your modern auto parts stores are not always going to carry the right parts (even NAPA but they are close) I get online and get a picture of the replacement part to see if the part is the same as what I am replacing. Those are 5/16 limes going in and out of that pump. Appreciate your efforts, brings back memories going back to 1968

So much good information here! Thank you so much! I may be reaching out to you if I run into problems. 😆
@billywird
@billywird Год назад
@@CrossroadsRebuild Yes sir and I must apologize here as that fuel pump that you acquired would have worked as the body of the pump where you have the inlet and outlet threads should be 1/8 pipe thread and you would probably find that you could use the brass fittings off of the old pump which those fittings should be 1/8 inch male pipe thread and 5/16 inverted flare to the lines. You may have to bend those lines some what to get them to fit as the location of the inlet and outlet on the replacement pump seems to be a little different. I failed to notice that when watching your video. Any time I can help no problem. Sometimes taking the old part to the parts store and comparing the two items could alleviate any confusion and sometimes a parts counter person may be able to help solve the problem as well, especially if you deal with one who is familiar with this old stuff

Might want to start a black board , write down all the things you need to do. Get the carb kit or you wont know if the thing will excelerate correctly if you don't .blow out the fuel lines they might be cloged. get brake kits, only for rear , change front too Disk. your family will thank you.

My dad had a 55 Chevy 210, 265 V8 3 on the tree. It was white over yellow, but all green underneath that. I've seen a few painted the same way. Someone told me the green made the white and yellow bolder. The interior was green as well. I think maybe something happened in the assembly line and these cars were set aside until whatever issue was resolved, and they were put back on the paint line on white over yellow day. Can't find anyone to verify why these cars were repainted that day.

@CrossroadsRebuild

I’ve decoded the trim tag, but I don’t know what it would show if Del Ray. But based on my research Del Ray was mostly an interior package, and based on what’s in the car, I don’t think it’s a Del Ray. LS would be cool for a different build, but this one is staying all original per the owners preference. Maybe we’ll do some fun stuff on another one in the future!
