Marcin Patrzałek (born October 6, 2000 in Kielce, Poland) Polish is a fingerstyle guitarist, composer and producer. He began playing classical guitar at the age of 10, under the direction of Jerzy Pikor, a teacher from Kielce. Two years later, he began learning flamenco techniques with Spanish guitarist Carlos Pinana. In 2015, he won the ninth edition of the Must Be the Music program. Only music, and in 2016 he released his debut album entitled Hush. In the same year he became a finalist of the International Fingerstyle Guitar Master Competition, and the following year he won first prize at the Joaquín Rodrigo International Classical Guitar Competition. In 2018, he won the fifth edition of the Italian program Tu Si Que Vales. On November 12, 2018, he released an EP entitled revAMP, containing his most popular arrangements. Previously, he released his own single "Baba Yaga". In 2019, he entered the 14th edition of America's Got Talent, in which he reached the semi-finals. In 2020, he signed a contract with Sony Music. 17 year old Marcin arranged & performed "Master of Puppets" by Metallica. Marcin uses the innovative technique of "percussion fingerstyle", which is why he chose the flagship Ibanez AE900-NT guitar from the AE and Thermo Aged™ AVD80-NT series equipped with a K&K Trinity Pro pickup, which allows him to combine extensive percussion elements with standard guitar playing. @DA-ti6pc
@DA-ti6pc 4 месяца назад
agreed Ill be a bit more direct, Marcin is using technique for the sake of technique and this can all be learned just like in the electric world. Every Marcin vid is pretty much the same, the tapping kinda bugs me as you can hear that secondary tone which is not pleasant to hear. At some point we hope to hear his originals with focus on touch and tone with expression. Perhaps he just needs to age a bit. In addition he is playing songs that he has mapped out so we dont see freedom in playing like Tommy Emmanuel, Luc Sylvain, Richard Smith just to mention a few. There are many more subtle technical moves in Dufour's music which are original compositions with incredible touch and tone along with very original melodies and harmonies.Marcin is basically playing cover songs on guitar with the added percussion and a few clever movements. Lastly Marcin has not really created anything all these techniques have been done. Marcin is just throwing them all into one song, and every song. Excellent execution but thats pretty much it. When t come to entertainment value well yup Marcin is the goto but after 3 songs with all the same stuff going on it gets tiring @@TomSandsGuitars

Marcin is stellar at making entertainment versions of cover songs. Search out Tommy Emmanuel and Luc Sylvain and their incredible musical jams sorry to say Marcin might not have the spontaneous musical goods to keep up but could probably learn if he changed his focus

I'm totally with you, Tom... Will's performance was by far and away the most musical and pleasing to my ears. Marcin deserves love, but two of my favorites are Joshua Turner (not the country singer, but he's good too), especially his rendition of Leo Kottke's Vaseline Machine Gun; and Michael Watts, who I wouldn't say is a viral sensation but is just so dang tasteful and musical. He is a player of fellow Somogyi apprentice Jason Kostal's guitars. Both absolutely worth some attention in a future edition.

This was a cool video, thanks Tom! Really took me back. Antoine Dufour is the GOAT. He and Andy McKee are the whole reason I'm here. I realized after learning their music just how much they focus on simply writing good, wonderful songs. There's definitely a lot of flash over smash in the FS community, but even now I'm finding myself going back and listening to AD and McKee because they make me feel like it's okay to focus on writing beautiful (not impressive) music. Also learned Ocean by John Butler at a time when I was going through a personal struggle. I remember at first thinking, "why does he make so many faces?" Then I found myself doing the same thing when I played through it lol the song takes you on such an emotional and epic journey, it was the therapy I needed to get me through the hump.

Not to be disparaging at all to these amazingly skilled/talented players, but I agree with other comments here that many of these tunes can lack melody and tend to be more memorable for the crazy techniques rather than for the music itself. Not all of the modern fingerstyle is this way, but I do find myself feeling this way more often than not. That being said, I do think musicians and guitarists appreciate these newer techniques a lot more than average people looking for music to listen to. To quote the amazing fingerstyle player Robin Bullock : "Sometimes I hear solo fingerstyle guitar music that is just a little too obviously built on riffs and cool sounds that open tunings present and they present it as a composition. And I feel like if it can't be taken away from the guitar and be reinterpreted by a string quartet or solo piano and stand up as music, then you might want to rethink it."

Hi Tom and Will I think the two pieces by John and Will both have soul and feeling and thats what makes them much more listenable than the “firework” showpieces. ( the Leeds thing is definitely a bonus with John!) Tom - perhaps you and Will could both share a few of the acoustic pieces/songs that really move you and say why? For me, the first time i heard Bill Nelsons “Visions of Endless Hopes” i knew i had to run out and get hold of a 12-string. Such a very simple piece but so full of raw emotion. How about yours?

Your work is stunning and looks perfect, although I’ve never held one of your instruments. Totally agree. I respect the amazing technique many of these players have, but often its just too mechanical and repetitive and after a couple of minutes its like wallpaper for me - where the musicality seems to be at the expense of skill Having said that there are occasional players that come along who pave the way for the next generation based on new techniques. In the context of electric guitar someone like Matteo Mancuso is doing what Beck , van halen and hendrix did. Perhaps the same is happening with modern acoustic ? At the end of the day a song that touches your soul played with honest emotion on a great instrument trumps all. Beau is right!
