Nothing like sitting in line waiting to get into RT66's Test N Tune and hearing something way back in the line revving up to get your curiosity going. Then as you make the turn you get a glimpse of the iconic '55 chevy front end high up in the air along with two gleaming velocity stacks protruding through the hood. Now how cool would it be to drive this old school '55 gasser in everyday traffic! RT66 4-23-16

Why are these cars so jacked up in the front? It doesn't make any sense. Seems like they'd just catch a ton of air and get slowed down. The Two Lane Blacktop car didn't sit like that and still packed a potent 454.

OK, but I am still waiting for someone to please tell me why these are often seen jacked up in the front end like this? One would think that a lower front end would promote better aerodynamics... such as on the Two Lane Blacktop car which was higher in the rear instead; Complete opposite setup!

They did it to help transfer more weight to the back tires for better traction on the drag strip. and then it just became a look people liked.

This would be a very fun car to look over in person from what you show in the vid it sure looks good, all the finishing touches are well done and finished off very nicely. It doesnt seem that often on a car like this that you see that level of paint quality, your work is very nice and the car is beautiful!! And to the person who asked WHY the Gasser stance with the front end high in the air, the reason was at the time it was the best way to get the weight transfer you needed on the launch!

It is a nice build, and i too would like to look under its skin. What i really love to see is a original build from the 60s and imagine what the thought process was at the time.

This is one of the nicest 55 gassers l've seen on RU-vid in the past week ' and there are hundreds of them. For myself l'm low key on bill boarding my rides. The less "names" and signs on my car the better l can appreciate the body style. Nice job on the design of fender/ quarter panels above rear wheels. This is one clean, bad ass Chevy ! I've got a question ' is it necessary to have such a narrow front axle ? Would it be wrong (drivability wise) to go wider up front ' so the front wheels sit under the front fender but on the outer side, instead of the inner side, like they are now ? Does it have something to do with maintaining control at launch at drag strip ?

Those valve covers got a second story...tallest ones Ive seen in a long time, probably makes it easier to adjust the valves. Cool looking car...what will it run?

What's the 2 big spacer like things under the carbs?
@1955RodHot
@1955RodHot 7 лет назад
They prevent the carbs from getting too hot, which creates vapour-lock, and robs the engine of serious power.
@frigglebiscuit7484

+Patty Hays for better weight transfer at launch back in the day, pure and simple. It also looks very badass.
