This is part of a demo video of the Mark-10 Measur Gauge Plus Software. The full video can be found on the S.A. Meier company RU-vid Channel. The manufacture of the paracord states that the tensile strength of the paracord is 550 lbs. Thru a number of tests, we never got the samples we tested beyond 405lbs. This sample failed at 396 max tensile strength

This does not take into consideration the fact that any knot you tie in the cordage will significantly change the tensile strength of the overall sample. I'm sure one piece of purely tensioned 550 Paracord would hold up; Once you start tying knots it goes crazy. Check out this experiment: caves.org/section/vertical/nh/50/knotrope-hold.html

You bring up a great point. I know that they weren't out to verify or shame a company/supplier. We needed something to test for the software graphing capability. You bring up a good point that the type of knot used could have distorted the test results. Ballard grips would of been better to use instead of the hook or self tightening grips that we were using. The wedge grips just shredded the samples at the fixture.

My question is did this parachute come from a camping or hardware store or was it from a craft store because as someone who regularly purchases both there's a difference

@hucknanjing1083 the same we used here was from a military supply outlet located in Baraboo Wisconsin. We did not disclose the supplier or manufacturer out of respect to the company. We did reach out and show them our findings. After about 2 months worth of going back and forth we realized that they achieve their numbers by an average of samples, all pulled at a slower rate than the sample we used for this video. This was more to show the capabilities of the new software than to test the quality of the paracord.
