Using a 4528 dual monostable multivibrator and a NOR gate, we can squeeze double the number of pulses we get out of a 555 timer set for its maximum frequency.

Excellent video. I almost stop watching when you mentioned 555. I've seen that many 555 tutorials lately I'm getting sick of them, all of which basically show the same thing. I'm glad I didn't stop watching. Not only was the topic interesting, I learnt something new as well. Excellent.

I need to get some more through hole 555s. I think I have a strip of 50 surface mount parts but I could only find one through hole and I think I bought it 25 years ago or more. Time to go to eBay!

Seems to me you would always want buffered output? I am a total newb so any thoughts on why an unbuffered output would be desired is greatly appreciated. 😬👍

Why not using just a single XOR? With 3 XOR gates (a single ic) you can do the same. I've the schematic ready to share. Can I post a picture on the Community tab?

What would that circuit look like? I was originally trying to use logic gates and inserting some time delays with RC networks to stretch out rising or falling edges but it didn’t come out very reliable and then I saw that I had monostable multi vibrators in my part collection so I went with that. I wanted to revisit just using logic gates later but if you have a solution that looks like it would work, I’d like to try that as well.
