I follow Diesel on Instagram. Great artist. And I understand the frustration with tig welding especially at the beginner level. Made every mistake you can (and will invent new ones) but also have learned a lot. Tig is full of subtleties. Example. the last week when welding my tungsten would go blue and crisp up. checked pre and post flow. correct. checked material. clean. looked at the gas flow. fine. made sure the tungsten was ground correctly and with the direction of the grinder travel. after all that, the problem was still there. got a hold of a master welder and he said two things. either your material still has oil residue or your back cap leaks. taped the back cap with duct tape from the cap to the torch itself. just as an experiment. yup. worked. no more crisping ....i mean who knew.
