Wow! Proper old school traction at work here.. 56081 putting on a show at Stafford whilst moving 805001 & 805003 from Old Dalby to Oxley.
See the loco arrive into platform 6 before running around with a blast of Paxman power as it exits the station!
The loco then re-couples back up to the opposite end of the Class 805's (at the 2nd attempt) before leaving for Oxley in another blaze of Paxman clag and noise!
This was amazing to film - Hope you enjoy the video! (sorry for any wind noise - It was very blustery at times!)
Thanks for watching.

The 56s really do suit Rail Blue so nicely! Lovely looking locomotive. A part of me hopes it is saved from becoming a Class 69, but that is highly unlikely.

Great catch. Did they set back the units under their own power before coupling? And guess it was to put the 56 behind the P6 signal before setting off south?
@trainsplanes
@trainsplanes Год назад
Yes that’s correct - I believe they decided after the first coupling attempt to move everything back behind the signal - It looked like the Hitachi crew assisting the GBRf team moved the units backwards using their own power. 👍
@gingertom2355
@gingertom2355 Год назад
@@trainsplanes With the loco stood out past P6 signal having come from the South, nothing would be able to enter or leave Platform 5 so presumably they got a nudge from Rugby ROC to ease up behind plat 6 starter signal. I wonder if that counts as the first move of a cl.805 under their own power on WCML? Good vid as always

@@martinjh999 @BRtechnicalservices The 'grid' you are referring to is a 'grille' on the front which covers the horns, and has been there in some shape or form since the 56s were introduced. I believe the 'grid' nickname was derived from a combination of the loco having the radiator a see-through 'grille' (as seen at 2:21) and the fact that they worked extensively on merry-go-round coal trains, serving the power stations on the National Grid.

@@Transportationspotting The Class 91 is still a great locomotive hence some being sold and retained. Compared to some of the other traction still in use like the Class 37’s, 73’s and 86/87’s, they’re still relatively new. @johnpeat2487 I don’t think I’d ever mourn the Class 800, sorry. The Deltic and Class 43’s were incredible, both very different but special. They were dedicated locomotives, not EMU’s. The Napier but more specifically the Paxman Valenta and to a lesser extent the V185’s sounded amazing and sight and smell of the clag was incredible. The Mark 3’s were so comfortable, quiet and spacious, especially compared to Mark 4’s. These trains were an experience. The Class 800’s make little to no sound, no smell, no clag and each looks identical, most aren’t even named. The 125 still looks more purposeful in terms of speed with that amazing front end, more so than the 800’s. Admittedly, it was hard taking to the Class 91’s but they had a legacy dating back to the APT, looked so unique (especially when running light or blunt end) and sounded great whether stationary or better still at speed. It feels like the end of an era

Lovely to hear that. Such a charismatic engine sound. Paxman music 🎶🎶 Pity about the plastic s£&#e its dragging around with it! My interest in the current rail scene is rapidly diminishing. I am of an age where I am glad to have experienced loco-haulage with classic traction from British manufacturers and BREL loco works during the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. And that includes BREL-built multiple units, too. And, yes, I know the more recent 8xx units are built in the UK, but to me there is just no comparison - hard seats, overly bright lighting, harsh ride. It never used to be like this! End of rant!
