Anyone else notice that this was only 0.04 sec slower 100-200 than an M8 Competition?! Imagine being an M8 driver seeing this hanging on to your arse 😂
@@MarcGismondi ah look, a Mazdaspeed 3 driver, my brother has a MPS6 mate, same engine and he bought it with a blown up engine. If you have 400hp or more in the 2.3t you will have to check and possibly rebuild it many times.
@@RottenWeeblet do you expect a 4 cyl to last with 400hp on a stock motor? at that point your brother is the idiot, build the motor and be done with it, mine makes 500whp and it takes 36lbs of boost more then twice a day.
It isn't a necessarily aero dirty vehicle but 150MPH in any FWD econobox is asking to eat it. My SVT Focus is very sketchy at its realistic top speed of 135MPH (those who claim to have taken it to 140MPH+ are lying or didn't live to tell the tale :)
@@jnd227 Bro my MK V GTI was smooth as butter at 140. Would take long sweepers at that speed like it was nothing. I had really good Michelin’s on it though.
@@emotionz3 The Mazda 3's are not really the typical weak "econoboxes". They're very good handling cars and overall pretty aerodynamic for how cheap they are. Specially the MPS/MazdaSpeed variants. They can handle 150MPH/240+ fairly easily. All you need is good tires and a good 4 wheel alignment.
I loved my Mazda 3 MPS that was stock, I still think its one of the best looking hatchbacks straight from the showroom. However even with 260bhp the torque steer on some road surfaces was "fun". This thing must be horrifying in certain circumstances, not for the faint hearted.
I had the 6 MPS, two of them back to back, loved the power and handling, good looking car too. Engine was too soft though, con rod and turbo problems, both cars were standard aswell.
Yeah. Well, for most parts it's absolutely fine, I have sport suspension in mine though. It just never fails to surprise me. I barely had ever felt any torque steer and then I once went on the Autobahn (just like any other day) and this thing went just absolutely crazy. I felt the urgue to talk to my baby after that, I loved every second of it. I don't know what exactly happened and why it felt this damn fast, conditions? No idea. If you keep it coming and play very tight with the gas it's just a bull (300 HP on mine).
12:00 As a former 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 owner, I can confirm that "hopped up on cocaine" describes the car pretty well. 😂 Same color. When I first got the car I did a 4000 rpm clutch dump and my engine HIT THE FIREWALL and left a dent in the heat blankets. With some solid engine mounts it solved that problem, but then every engine sound was transmitted to the cabin of the car to the point where you could hear the transmission synchros engaging as you were shifting. I kinda miss that car. Holy crap did it understeer though. All the time. It just PLOWED on the track. Oh it was fun running people down with that big smiley face though. 😁
Still kept my 2012 MPS3 at a conservative 300hp/470Nm@1.2bar ... Cured the torque steer by having a much linear boost delivery(stock tune tend to boost spike), 235/40/18 + solid RMM ...that's it. I'm still using oem left/right mount.
I said it once and I’ll say it again..this is the most esoteric car in the tuner community.. it seems that this car responds to every type of bolt on you can think of.. I have a 2012 MS3 with hpfp fuel internals , and the Garret 3071 turbo/ screamer pipe.. nothing else , hell I’m still on the stock intake with a better turbo inlet pipe and it’s just a blast to drive..
I bought a Speed 3 new in 09 and was impressed. Thought it was fast and was sleeper, used to piss people off all the time. The next year I traded it in for a 370Z that had about another 60+hp stock. Did a bit of tuning to the Z with CAI and exhaust maybe had 350hp. Was driving home one day in the Interstate and saw a speed 3 and thought I would fuck with him knowing exactly how fast the MSP3 was. I passed him doing 120 and had about 10 car lengths on him as I ran it up to the limiter of 155 and when I looked back he was ON MY BUMPER!!!! So I moved over and gave him a 👍🏻
I had an 09 as well. Best looking year in my opinion. Definately the most fun I’ve had in a compact. Everything from the smoke screen on hard acceleration to the crazy torque steer gave it tons of character.
I've had my 3MPS 2011 for a few years now and it is totally standard apart from HPFP internals and motor mounts. It's a superb car although the suspension is a bit unforgiving- I got just over 155mph (250 kph) in Europe ( I'm not saying where! ) - but I can only imagine what 562HP is like - haha I think I'd have a heart attack trying to keep it in a straight line. Great video.
My girlfriend has 1 also its a funny car and pretty damn fast indeed. To be really honest i actually prefer it over my 550iM haha. But over 160 it gets really noisy and a you lose the feeling with the car. Over 200 i think its to fast for the car, but if it can 250 i might just be a pussy. My wife never went over 180.
Regarding the motormounts, Do you feel any extra vibration from aftermarket ones? I am looking into replacing it on mine but since i am using it as a daily i dont want to have my steeringwheel vibrating like im on a track or something.
@@Agent-K - I used genuine Mazda mounts for the 2 top ones but a Cobb replacement for the rear, as it's much better at absorbing the forces generated when you take off fast from a standing start - because of this the feel of the motor as regards to vibration etc is no different than standard. I'm never going to use it on the track, so for me it was an easy choice.
I absolutely love my MPS BL. Too bad rules are way too strict towards tuning here in Switzerland but I still modified it. It looks kinda badass with a sport suspension, carbon parts and different exhaust. Would love a bigger spoiler but that's too obvious for police :P 230'000 km and still without any trouble towards engine and stuff yet, roughly 300 HP.
I have an 09 MS3, built and setting @ 486hp. I'm so impressed with the complete package that I'm in the process of stripping out an all-wheel 07 MS6 and stuffing it in an older Escort GT. Then the real fun begins... 😉
I had a second generation MPS for about 7 years. Had a stage 1 tune and some suspension mods. Tbh it was not a great daily driver and not even close to being the best driving hot hatch. VAG's mqb platform cars with the 2L EA888 engines are far superior to this - better handling and better power delivery (E.g. mk7 GTI). Not saying it was a bad car but it was definately not well designed and not at all well balanced. Road noise was effing terrible and it did not feel very stable at freeway speeds. Understeered and torque steered a lot too. Was reliable though.
@@kevildub You're a liar, dude, you didn't have this car.. MPS 3 is a much better car than the GTI, more powerfull and a better handling platform. Even stock, MPS has K04 turbo while GTI has K03. MPS has LSD, GTI has none.
@@Aramis_Production why so triggered by my comment? Do you own one? Is that why you're so defensive about it? I'm not knocking the MPS... As I said I used to own one and I spent a lot of money and put many hours into maintaining it. I'm just giving my insight as I know the car very well. It was a fun, reliable car - but it was flawed in a lot of ways. It was even regarded by Mazda as a bit of a misadventure into the hot hatch market - hence part of the reason why they haven't bothered making another one. The things you mentioned about the GTI are related to the MK 6. The MK 6 GTI was one of the cars I considered when a got my MPS new in 2011. Also considered an ST focus. The bigger power and LSD in the MPS swayed me towards getting the MPS. If you read my comment properly, you'd see I was referring to a MK 7 GTI, which is a much better daily driver than an MPS, features an LSD (on several models), and has an engine which offers more bang for buck in terms of tuning/modifying. Maybe next time you should think before throwing insults out at people and maybe learn not to take things too personally.
@@kevildub No GTI engine offers more bang for the buck, dude. You are just blowing air, not knowing this platform at all probably. Mazdaspeed platform is easy to tune, the power gains reached 800+ HP with relative less money than other platforms. In the US there's a lot of companies offering tuning parts for MS3. And yes, I own one since 2008. The OEM engine lasted me 7 years and died due to some damn counterfeit Dexelia oil. Rebuilt it twice since then now getting conservatively 420 HP. And is my daily driver.
@@Aramis_Production dude, I love how you don't really address any point I'm trying to make but instead go off on random rants about 700hp engines. The original comment which we are replying on said that the MPS was a good car - I'm not disagreeing, in fact I owned one so I obviously liked the car. He said that they are a good all rounder - I disagree with this. I daily drove it for years, often in traffic. The ride was crashy, the NVH was bad (Mazdas of this era were notorious for bad NVH levels), the clutch was heavy as, and the gear shift was not the most pleasant either. Also, the engine had heaps of turbo lag by today's standards in turbo hatches - that's why I drew a comparison with a mk7 GTI which in my opinion (and probably in keeping with the opinion of the majority of people) is a much better daily driver. When I mentioned the EA888 motor offering better bang for buck, I was referring to bolt-on mods. The EA888 gains heaps of power with simple stage 1 or stage 2 bolt-ons. Most people would only do basic mods like this so it is relevant to most people. You mentioned 700hp... Most people aren't going to do this and honestly I'm not sure why you would in a FWD hatch. I mean, the 3 MPS chassis could barely handle the stock levels of power and torque. My point is the MPS was a fun car but it was flawed in a few significant ways, especially when compared to more contemporary fast hatches. Don't take it personally and enjoy your car.
No lie, ive driven a 400hp sti and im more scared to drive my own 320hp speed3. The sti just goes fast. The speed3 with the torqe steer and fwd tires spinning scares me. Its makes my heart race like hell.
@@Dayfoxx7000 I have a friend with a modded MPS makesabout 430whp . It’s nice. But my MK2 Focus Is scarier. If you think that torque steer on the MPS is scary😂.it’s much worse on the focus. Makes 450whp. And m pretty sure your exhaust doesn’t sound anything like a 5pot exhaust. But however, I think that Mazda is same platform as the MK3 Ford Focus ST. Same 2.3L engine. They are very strong don’t get me wrong.
@@paulhenry9300 I havent had a manual now in so long just miss the purity. Been driving all dual clutch autos lately but I've been only in XR5s and Focus RS once they were also fun
Why I feel like 2.3L for a Turbo 4-cyl is the magic number? The good old Saab B235 2.3L Turbo, Ford 2.3L Ecotec, Mazda Speed 2.3L Turbo, Honda/Acura RDX 2.3L Turbo etc..
Despite not having that power or anything close to that and me only doing 75-80. The pop at 13:10 gave me ptsd of my 2010 ms3 blowing cylinders on a shift between 5th and 6th while passing someone
It's a different dimension of acceleration from my Mazdaspeed 3. Unlike me, who lives in Japan, I envy that I can demonstrate this potential on a daily basis.
I had no driving stability issues running 250+ for prolonged periods in my mk1 MPS, even maxing out the 270 limiter, with slighty smaller diameter tyres than stock. Is the alignment off or dampers changed, since its "off" above 230? No doubt it would do 300 easy. :)
I do 220 in my MX 5 ND every day if traffic conditions and wheater is allowing it on my way to work from Bad Segeberg to Hamburg - Bergedorf . No big deal. Also have RX 7 Turbo, 260 + but that is something for sunny sundays. But happens. Still - doing 260 on a German Autobahn U have to check rearview mirror ...
Love the video as I own a 2011 Silver MS3. The stock wheels are 18 inch not 19 as you said, but I might of missed hearing you say they were aftermarket.
I had a 2012 for 4 years with mild bolt ons/tune. Kept getting this "feeling" it was going to blow up. A week after I sold it the new owner crashed and totaled it. I'm not superstitious but feel like I knew it's time was coming lol.
well yes and no. Yes it's the same engine design, but the one in the mazdaspeed/MPS has a forged crankshaft, forged cams, forged piston head, and so on. It's beefed up to handle the power.
I thought that too. My brother has one of these cars recently it was mental.....computer used to log runs to program and override ecu, catch cans fitted to stop dipstick coming out. Wheelspun up to 3rd gear!
@@oetic5016 lmao they are so far from overrated. They’re the only affordable Japanese performance cars left. Everything else has jacked up prices and don’t perform nearly as well as the MPS
@@oetic5016 overrated? I have never seen one in my life except mine. They´re cheap as fuck. The Type R, Focus RS and i30N are overrated. They still cost more than 25.000€. The MPS just abaout 7-8k. With the same Power since 2005 in the speed 6. It can´t be an overrated car if 99% of people you ask doesn´t even know that this car exists. 😂
Greetings and hat off from the owner of the quickest and most powerful 3MPS/Mazdaspeed3 which still complies the factory emissions standard :) 3MPS BK 2008, 711Nm/509PS on the previous engine (current one won't go past 480 or so and 650-ish Nm), 100-200 in 6.9 and 60-100mph in 4th in 3.62s, max rev limit 7150 because no additional PI apart from 1200cc/min WMI, dual catted exhaust and stock manifolds with fully functional EGR. I absolutely love when people do this kind of things to their cars and leave the exterior and interior stock-ish, fully functional and even improve it. FWD FTW! Let's go!
I drove 222 km/h GPS in my Mazda 3 Diesel today to get some basil seeds from Dehner. I wouldn't call the car sketchy, it's just the hood moving around so much that you think you didn't close it properly.
google services, RU-vid algorithm, all of its really hitting me. it knows that I no longer possess a Mazda 3 Sport. it knows that I've underestimated Mazda for such a long time only giving the credit for the MX-5 Miata. it knows that now the only car I adore to have it used (naturally preferably new) is the Mazda 3 and ofcourse now having a taste of the hatchback I want to go all the way to the Speed3 as the main replacement. the mockery does not end. I HATE FREAKING ACCIDENTS!!!!!!!!
The FK2 looks a bit better or ricey, depending on one's taste. the FK8's even better. These MPSes look quite dull which makes them even more surprising when you encounter a really fast one.
I grew up in Bavaria, and I thought Germans are arrogant..but calling yourself an "experienced driver" when you are clearly not rev matching on the downshifts is next level ahhaha f**k mate
