We got the woods rotary tiller on the Massey Ferguson GC 1710 TLB sub compact tractor. I removed the backhoe and set up the three point hitch for the new implement. / louisiana.aquaponics.71 #LTPVids #WoodsTiller #Tractor
Add a cheap quickhitch from harbor freight. It will move tiller back some so you don’t have to remove so much of the pro shaft. I hooked a tractor supply tiller (thinking it was county line brand) up to our 1736 Massey and even on that compact tractor I was going to have to remove more pto shaft than the manual recommended. Called the company and a helpful guy said to go the quickhitch route. I did and now everything I get I make sure it is qh compatible. I need to get a qh for the little 1710 tlb, but really don’t use three point stuff on it much.
I use that exact same tiller with my Massey Ferguson GC1725M, I use it on QuickAttach, much simpler and quicker process. LoL I still don't know if my tiller is reverse or forward.
Thanks for watching and the comment! It's been a good tiller so far. I hear you on the QH. I have one on it now. Lol. Have a good one! See ya in the next one!
Great video John! Can't wait to see it in action! I agree with some of these other guys that a quick hitch might be a time saving investment for you lol. I'd like to get one myself. Take care man!
Quick question. When you changed all your hydrostatic fluid front and back, how many gallons did it take. I cannot tell if the rear end is full or not the site glass is ridiculous to me. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mr Smith GC 1710
Transmission/rear end takes 2.9 gal. Front axle takes 4.2 qt. A rough total of 4.1 gallons of hydro oil. Sorry I just got your message today. Thanks Mr. Smith!
I like your thinking John. Everybody knows what to do. But what about NOT to do. Then most importantly, why. This is where wisdow lies. Never used a tiller, but I did use a snowblower... The only thing I could say then: the shear pin will be your guide. If it shears, don't be tempted to put a stronger one if you are not sure about it. Time do change: shear pin - 5 minutes. Driveshaft - days... I am very curious how it will perform! Thanks!
Forget the plowing. For the amount of time and fuel and then having to deal with a bumpy plowed surface its not worth it. I usually run a ripper every 18"-24" in virgin ground to hunt out rocks and roots and then till.
I'm just going to flip mine to a forward tiller and hit it. I just need the ground broke up so I can dig it and haul it off. A ripper would be nice! That a good idea! Thanks RJ!!
@@onestallfab rippers require a lot of ass. Plus, moldboards are cheap and dont require the ponies. You plow the sid correctly, itshould lay nice and one pass with it in forward, hes done. Hes not talking about a 100 acre field.
Hey Mr. TB, yeah I'm not getting comment, or reply notifications for a few weeks now. I don't know what's wrong with RU-vid there's a lot of people complaining about it!!
That's gotta suck if you have to unbolt that safety cover every time ,wonder if you could put pins it so it moves loosely mine has em I just flip it up and down
@@LouisianaTractorworks I have the backhoe on mine now but I can ,it seems your would be a pain for every aytachment I can make one and try sharing it on your page maybe
That's one heavy duty looking tiller! The backhoe looks like a pain in the ass to do the swap. Whenever I hook up a PTO shaft on the back of the tractor always put it on first before hooking the 3-point hitch up gives you a little more room to get your hand in there too line up the spline. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Mighty Moe, the backhoe take less then five minutes to take off but the tiller is a real pain to put on! Thanks again and have a Marry Christmas!
not bad river is very high but mostly contained we had some massive tornados which is unusual for us. only one death from the tornados but loads of property damage.
Evening John, I watch most your videos but I am curious after you took your tiller back off and reinstalled your back hole , did you have to put the metal plate back up where was when you received it, other words the question I’m asking did you have to take the bolts out and move the plate back up before reinstalling back hole. Keep up the videos I’m learning a lot
Hey Robert, yes I did have to put everything back just as it was and put the plate back up! How's that thumbing working out for you! Maybe I'll try to make a video on removing backhoe and put on a implement then back to the backhoe!
Fun getting them all setup glad you didn't have to pull the backhoe mounts, when we did this on our runway we disc it several times in different directions and then made a coulpe passes with the tiller. May not need to do that now with how wet the ground is this was back when it was real dry. It turned out nice but was a muddy mess until grass took.
I plan on doing sections, one at a time and try to let the grass come up before I do another one! How ever well that will work here! LOL! Yeah as wet as it is I can probably dig it with a spoon! LOL!
Man the weather down there looks like here only 20 degrees cooler lol. The worst part about buying new implements is getting them hooked up and set up. Everyone is different of course. Looks good and can't wait to see it break ground. Thanks for the video
I'LL TAKE IT!!! LMAO!! We're still getting 90's and the rain just won't STOP!! They just said this morning we've gotten over 54" inches already for the year! We normally get 25" inches a year! I know nothing about setting up implements on tractors. All the equipment I got lucky to learn on was already set up for what they were doing. Any tips you can give would be more then appreciated BELIEVE IT!! lol
Yes they do. My tractor has a category 1 3 point. I was thinking about one but only having one implement I don't know if it's worth the price they want.
John, as you know, I have the Massey GC1710 as well. The metal flap is made to go up/down, Up when the BH is on and the lift arms are tucked in. It's pretty tight. Down when putting on a rotary cutter, tiller, etc. When attaching the lift arms to an implement, I too had to loosen the stabilizer links until I got the implement attached then I'd tighten the stabilizer linkage. Each implement is a bit different so that requires readjusting the stabilizer linkage for each implement. Sorry, one size does not fit all. When I lower that metal PTO plate/shield, I don't have to loosen any nuts or bolts to lift or lower that plate. I learned from "Ask Tractor Mike" always keep a large metal breaker bar to help when you have to shift a heavy implement left or right. It sure does work well. The first time I put my rotary cutter on, it took 45 minutes until I got it on right. I needed the breaker bar, heavy sledge hammer, and a lot of choice words. The 2nd time it took less time. The more you do it, the better it seems to go but it's still a PITA. Next video before you do your tilling, could you show how much of the shaft you had to cut? A person who's going to use a Quick Hitch may not have to cut off as much from the shaft (only b/c he has an extra 4-ish inches hanging off the rear). Great video. Thumbs up.
Hey Don, A breaker bar is a great idea! Never putting anything on the back of the GC before I didn't know what to expect but Learning! lol After installing this one a QH is probably the best way to go and you're right if you have one you won't cut near as much off the PTO shaft. To be honest I don't know how much we actually cut off. My buddy being cautious cut it three times to make sure we didn't cut to much off and in a hell of a rain storm at that. So I didn't get exact length but it was quite a bit to me. Thanks for the advice on adding implements to the GC. You've got way more experience put them on then I do so any help you can offer is appreciated!! lol
Not really John (smile). I've only done a few implements, but did them numerous times and that's what gave me a few things to watch for. You might have an implement that's too low to the ground so I build a platform to rest it on and make it easier to connect. I'm still working on the Quick Hitch theory to see what it takes to get implements that are "Quick Hitch Compatible". Is it truly worth it to buy or spend so much money on implements that are QH compatible. What are the Pros/Cons of QH stuff.
That's what I like to know. You can spend some money quickly but is there a distinct difference between having one and not having one and is that difference enough to justify the cost. If you don't mind let me know what you come up with.
Good morning LA!! Really good , informative video. Thanks for the info on the warranty etc and also a good catch on the rear shield for Massey owners. Looking forward to the tiller's maiden voyage. Stay dry and be good!! Cheers!
I'm looking forward to it's maiden voyage too but if it don't stop raining it might float away with out me! LOL!! Hope the coffee is good this morning! Have a great weekend GP!!
In the next few days I’ll post a video of a problem I have with my backhoe, maybe you can tell me if it’s ok or not. It’s been to the dealer 8 times, 4 for this issue and I’m not getting fixed up. Love the videos John!!
The best thing to do is to post a video of the problem. There is so many people that can help, it's not even funny. lol Have a great weekend Eric and thanks!
Nice job John, good sleuthing on that plate. I was spoiled, mine came with the receiver hitch/weight holder installed, all I had to do is tighten it to make it rigid. Looking forward to seeing your new unit in action, very cool. Now I think you will pass me up on hours, got too much rain up here to do much, sounds like you got a bunch too. Have a great weekend!
Good video. I'm looking forward to further reviews on this unit, as it's what I'm look at for my Deere. It appears quick hitch compatible. Have you considered getting a quick hitch?
Sorry Justin, I know you are waiting on seeing it running. The rain just don't stop! LOL! I wanted better footage for this video but it was raining so hard the whole time we were working I couldn't get the camera!
@@LouisianaTractorworks So far the only 3pt things I have are a Woods RC4 rotary cutter and my rear ballast set up, and the quick hitch has saved me a lot of aggravation!
@@LouisianaTractorworks your more than welcome to post your massey videos on mine. I know other brands deere, kubota make good stuff. But I these Massey's in these categories are better bank for buck
Hey AMVayanefan, unfortunately no matter which tractor or tiller you buy the first time setup is going to be a pain in the butt. Most likely you will have to cut your PTO shaft to fit your setup! I will tell you a Quick Hitch is going to be a time and back saver for any 3 point hitch!
I told you the PTO shaft was too long. Glad you got it set up right. I would go ahead and do your tilling in reverse. I had to order one that was reverse. Make sure you have extra shear pins if that is your drive line protection (of the correct hardness). The reverse will tend to pull out obstacles instead of pushing down and hanging it up. Either way, you should be fine.
Yap NCSUCPE you were right! Thanks!! It has the slip clutch so I will check it. I'm going to flip it. I'm just trying to break up the ground to move it.
Thanks A.R! That is probably the right way but I didn't want to spend the money on all of that just to regrade a couple of acres! That stuff is expensive!! lol The Woods is a great tiller! Thanks again and have a good one!!
Thanks for all your videos. They are very helpful. I'm glad you mentioned that shield on the 3 point hitch. Mine was in the up position and didn't notice that the shield actually got all bent out of shape from the 3 point arms dropping onto it. I fixed it today. Thanks again.
Thank you pramagli, for watching and the comment! I appreciate you letting me know that the videos helped. Glad you were able to fix the shield. Have a good week! See ya in the next one!
One thing I've noticed on mine, and I'm sure you may have experienced the same thing, the pins for the connecting links to lower arms will interfere with the backhoe frame. If you put them in like I did from the inside out and have the hairpins or R-pins on the outside then they may get pushed out by catching on that BH frame, then the pins will start sliding out of the lower arms when lifting and lowering and get chewed up. I'm thinking of getting a pats quick attach setup to ease hooking up the lower arms. Won't need to swing them out so wide that way. Thinking of getting a tiller myself, just need to decide which one.
Hey John great video. I have the gc1720 and the same issue with that bracket. The arms hit it. I'll check into moving it down like you say. Question:. Did you have to put it different when you put the backhoe back? And how do you keep hydrauluc lines from getting hurt?
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XFHpodQsHUg.html At 12:15 I show how I do my lines. I put everything but the lines back like it was from the factory. Two of the hydro lines I rerouted on the outside of my PTO sheld. That way if something goes wrong with the PTO it won't tear the lines apart!
@@LouisianaTractorworks great to know. I guess that shield protects the PTO area when digging with the backhoe. Thanks to you I know what to do with the shield and hoses thanks!!!
The sheld portects you and the tractor when a PTO shaft is in use and if it comes apart! When putting the backhoe back on I raise the sheld back into place. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gpia-4BbU6c.html Start at 5:35
@@LouisianaTractorworks thanks a million. You know what that silver loose bracket is on the top arm of the three point? This is my first time ever messing with three point so I started small with a dethatcher by cmp
@@merc45 That is the top link holder. It holds you top link while you back up and hook to your implement. Just make sure you let it down after you hook up. They cost $30! Don't ask how I know! LOL!
