It was the most thought worthy abandon ever then he made those hits cause he was a QB reading the Offense Better than the offense was aware. Preparation
I don't think they gave him the credit for being the defensive quarterback that he was. Hell, I don't even like the Bears, but I enjoyed watching him play. That and hitting people with eyes wide open.
He's been a 🐻 Bear all his Life. First at Baylor University as a Baylor 🐻 Bear. Then at Chicago as a Chicago 🐻 Bear. Bear 🐻 for LIFE Man. One of the best and finest that EVER played 💪🤙👏
Mike Singletary got a curious nod in Ronnie Lott's autobiography, Total Impact. Ronnie, himself noted to be one of the toughest dudes to play football, said the Mike Singletary cracked his own helmet during games, something like a dozen times. Now THAT is a tough dude!
I’m so glad mike helped shape ray Lewis’s career. You could see the way he approached the game and how much thinking he put into it on top of the religion, and motivating his guys. He was ray before ray. Better yet, ray was mike singletary in the 2000s
I met Mike back in 1998 when he gave a motivational speech at Childrens Medical Center in Dallas when I was one of the Servicemaster contract facility directors at that particular facility. I was shocked as I entered the elevator headed to the lower level auditorium at how short he was (I'm 5' 11'') and his hand was smaller than mine as we shook hands in the introduction. Short while later I felt inspired as he related how hardly anyone believed in him due to his size and one thing that impressed me during his talk was "it's not about how big you are physically but rather how determined you are mentally to suceed." This was shortly before he started coaching.
Yes, Singeltary was one of the best! Played with passion and fire 🔥! Watched him play college ball at Baylor and then ,to the N F L. He made up in size , for what passion he had in his heart for the game!
Says an awful lot how he can close his eyes today, over 30 years later, and still see the 85' BEARS Defense bearing down on him.... People often downplay the greatness of that team, putting others like the "Steel Curtain", "The Purple People Eaters", etc., as the greatest ... and they may very well be, but.... the most horror stories told by QB's, RB's, and O- linemen of the era was of the ferociousness of that 85 BEARS defense.
"I'm Samurai Mike I stop'em cold. Part of the defense, big and bold, I've been jammin' for quite a while, Doin' what's right and settin' the style, Give me a chance, I'll rock you good, Nobody messin' in my neighborhood." #SamuariMike
@@lastfirst7371 I agree totally. Former players that played at Hall of Fame levels, usually don't make good coaches because they have such high expectations and very little tolerance for anything less than maximum effort and dedication.
@@greezythumb my thoughts exactly, he was too high of himself and his accomplishments that he had too high of a bar which in the end I don't blame him, you want that from any coach but Mike Singletary laid it on a little too thick for his own good. But he is still great nonetheless
@@JBHtown1646 the issue was is that he coached in a way similar to Buddy. He put alot of young pros through hell expecting their 110% every game in a way Buddy did as his DC. He pushed players the same way he was pushed and in the era he coached, that kind of drive was exchanged more for money than love of the game itself. In his era it would have pushed players forward, but that era is over sadly.
Mike Singletary, the Brains and Intelligence behind Buddy Ryan's Destructive 85 🐻 Bears Defense!!!! This Bears defense and the Pittsburgh Steel Curtain of the 70's, the two best defenses EVER ASSEMBLED!!!
I met him at a church event a year ago and he is just the nicest man with a great testimony. The man in this video is not the man I met. I’m afraid of this man.
I totally wish I could have lived the 1985 Bears year since I was born in 1991 because that defense was so star-studed and full of attitude that there would have been no dull moment from that team throughout the year. The biggest thing I wonder about with Mike Singletary and the Bears franchise was what if Buddy Ryan had stayed as the Defensive Coordinator for a couple more seasons and kept that 4-6 defense going under the leadership of Singletary. I would bet if that happened, the Bears would have won at least another Super Bowl and Singletary would be even higher on this list then!
Joseph Harris Not only that, but if McMahon could’ve stayed healthy, I have a strong feeling they would’ve won in ‘84 & ‘86; both years they made it to the NFC Championship with scrubs at QB. McMahon was the perfect Bears QB. I feel your pain, as I was born in ‘92 and can only imagine what a fun season that would have been to see.
p51djm22 There’s no doubt that would have been the best defensive game of all time, had they met in the ‘86 NFC Championship. They would’ve mauled each other so bad, there wouldn’t much in the tank for the Super Bowl.
Everyone has heard term "co-owner." As far as I'm concerned, Buddy Ryan was the co-head coach of the Bears in '85. The players all knew it. That's why both Ditka *and* Ryan were carried off the field at the end of the game. The Bears had an outstanding defense the following season as well under defensive coordinator Vince Tobin. Unfortunately Ditka was inept when it came to offensive strategy. He was still stuck in the past, and thought offenses should be run the same way they were *before* the pass-friendly rule changes of 1978.
I lived through that era. The most underrated great linebackers in the mid-80s' were Carl Banks and Andre Tippett. Check out their highlights some time. LT hogged the oxygen. But week to week Banks and Tippett had better games than LT.
Bobby wagner studied under Singletary and is probably the best linebacker of his generation. Linebackers like them and there r a handful of others over the decades between them that are great like this. Ray lewis is one. It helps all these players were on great defenses too. Its not a one man show
Not a Bears fan but he should have been in the top 50. In the position It’s not what one players stats are it’s how you push, motivate, change the players, play calls and offense / defensive schemes around you.
I saw a G. I've seen it all. Dope describes my rhymes, making all you MCS cold drop like dimes. You know MCSC is back again, and battling me on the microphone is like committing a sin. Scott/MCSC
He is a Bear..He"s Butkus' Lil Black Brother...(not too little! Ha ha 😂 🤣 😆) what a sledgehammer he was! I love his story..underdog his whole life Matt Mad Dog 🐕 Sweeney
One of Singletarys heros is Mike Curtis.......ask him if Curtis should be in the hof? Singletary should still be a head coach in the NFL. The players today and the union wont let a guy like Mike be a head coach and its a damn shame.
