Emily you speak the truth. I have had my '56 Buick for 38 years. It still isn't "done" and never will be. It is just more done than it was 38 years ago. I have been under, in and around every part of that car. So much so it is now a member of the family.

Happy Birthday. It's just nice seeing a youtuber actually strip and paint a old car instead of they pull it out of the weeds or trees and get it to run and move then say Patina and shove it back in the trees to finish rotting. I know it's not a popular opinion. I'm a 70's kid were you couldn't even enter a car in a car show if it was rusty and your hot rod was completed when the paint dried. Sorry if I upset anyone, it's not an opinion unless you express it.

By doing what you are doing you are learning, but you are also teaching everyone watching at the same time. I have tried to do some of the things that you have done with limited success, after watching you do the things that I have tried (wrapping your corvette) I retried wrapping mine and I came out much better and easier after learning how to do it watching you both. Thank you for all you do.

I must admit I sped through your beautiful video. Because I’ve done this work so often and I do not want to say, oh you should have done this or that. I watch because it helps you guys out, but I like keeping my seeing things to myself. BUT SAYING THAT, cover all your tool boxes with plastic? My 2 cents. Many years ago I had purchased new boxes, left them open while I sprayed a candy apple Dodge Challenger……..To this day I walk in my garage and I see red……good memories but I cleaned red paint for a week off everything 🙄😁😂🤣love you guys. 👍

Picking an honest and highly skilled body shop would probably take a lot more time and energy than jumping in and doing it yourself! If you follow your heart doors will open for you that are not available to others. It was also a very smart move to pay the price for a very clean and straight project car! Hi Folks, Great video and great progress. I like how you went with stripping paint over dipping and blasting. (I wonder with chemical dipping, how do they paint inside the rocker panels etc?) As for vibration with the D/A sander I wear two pair of bigger,(and maybe thicker) gloves and it helps with the vibrations. I really enjoy the process too, so have fun. Cheers Chris.

I have a friend who tried Evaporust for the first time on the bases of some oil filters that he got at a swap meet. They had some surface rust near the threads and the gasket surfaces. He soaked the bases over night and the rust is gone! He was amazed. I am going to invest some myself.

Well Happy Birthday hon. Cake and ice cream for you! You two are doing great with the 57. It's a real solid car. Preparation is the real work and the key to a great paint job. Spraying was always the best part for me. Each time I tried to lay it down better than the last one. Learn from mistakes and have a better result the next time. I am so glad you finally put some visqueen over those two other cars. I could just see some paint stripper or paint thinner splash landing on one or both of them. Ask me how I know.. You kids keep up the great work.

I have done a number of strip reprints and have used neutralizer so the chemical reaction stops and surface rust does not reappear. Happy Birthday Emily !!! This is the kind of rebuild we have been waiting to see. Take your time. Film it all....we want to see. Suggest all new rubber suspension parts while it is apart. This was fun. Thanks for letting us all tag along. Take care and stay safe.

Evaporust is so handy. And they sell it in 55 gallon barrels. So handy for cleaning out engine blocks. I just hooked up a transfer pump to block adapters a buddy 3d printed, then plugged the transfer pump into a timer switch that flipped it on for 5 minutes every hour and 15 min every 6 hours. When I scoped the block not a speck of rust.

Might be "Water under the bridge" now, but use a little Baking Soda & water 2 or 3 tablespoons to a gallon of water To Neutralize the remnants of the acid bath. Plain water Won't Neutralize the acid. It doesn't take much baking soda at all to neutralize it. Go back over it Fairly quickly with a damp towel or you'll have a chalky residue of the soda. Get it dried fast or rust will develop. Helps Promote the primer adhesion also. --- Retired from a 26 year Paint Lab stint. Just Sayin' lol -- Happy Belated Birthday

I was paint and body.man for years. The yellowing after you wipe down with water , is rust starting instantly. Just appears to take awhile to come out. To keep from happening , all you do is use Lacquer thinner, to do Final wipe down . Instead of water.... The water is the problem. Try on a small section and you will see the difference when dry . Happy Birthday...

Awesome explanation on why you didn't get the car dipped. Yes, indeed you get more content showing the entire process. Excellent. I was wondering the yellowing is that because you didn't have ph balancer to clean it off? The Water being neutral wouldn't be enough to balance the ph on the metal. Great work.

When my sister passed away I inherited her 71 Malibu coupe. I was married at the time so suggested we find another one for her for "his & hers" Malibu's at car shows. The one we found was a roller that someone had put a battery on the trunk shelf that had spilled acid. There was a huge pile of white "stuff" from the acid reacting with the steel. The acid had seeped into all the little cracks in the detail parts welded behind the rear seat and no amount of pressure washing or rinsing with baking soda & water would stop it. The surface tension of the soda water kept it from penetrating into those cracks. A quick check of the design handbook found that ammonia (easily found and low surface tension) would do the trick and it did. Although it is also corrosive, it's not nearly as bad as the acid and 20 years later no problems at all. I've never had a problem with phosphoric acid as long as you get it off any surfaces you want to paint. (Mine did the yellowing too but was never an issue - I always gave it a scuff right before the epoxy and never had an adhesion problem. (Not making recommendations - just sharing my own experience from many years ago!). Looks awesome! Great job everyone! We used to say try to avoid "paralysis by analysis" LOL!

@flyingsparksgarage ... There is no doubt that there will tears on some cheeks 😮 happy tears! '57s are precious and need to be pampered and severed 😊 Keep up the great job 👍 I have found that throwing the air hose over shoulder onto my back... it helps keeping it away surfaces at/below the waist 😊 believe me - I've learned this from a bunch of mistakes 😞 Happy belated birthday... I know your special dinner was awesome 🎉 🥳🎂

I have a tip I'm not sure anyone else has said it. Take the air hose and put it over your shoulder it keeps it behind you so you don't get it in your work.... 👍😎
