NC revised laws are allowing UTV side by sides to be driven on the roads of North Carolina with a few upgrades and some time a the DMV you can be legal to drive on the roads of NC.
Just got my Polaris RZR 900 XC registered. Took 4 trips to the tag office! These are the documents you will need to Register and Tag your UTV. 1. MSO from the manufacturer of the vehicle 2. Bill of Sale 3. MVR-59 4. Proof of Insurance 5. NC Safety Inspection The MSO was my biggest obstacle. I purchased my RZR used and did not get an MSO from the previous owner. My local dealer was absolutely no help at all. Ended up contacting Polaris directly. They were very helpful. Keep in mind this is all new to the tag office personnel. They work under a contact with the state and I'm sure they are concerned about losing their contact if they don't follow the letter of the law. I have also talked to people that tell me inspection stations are requiring different things than the NC General Statute lists. Guess there is a big learning curve for all of us. Hope this helps and Ride Safe!!
@@narfwar2070 The mvr-59 is a NC DMV form. You must have this to apply for the registration and tags. You can download a copy online. It's simple to fill out. Good Luck!!
Michigan requires DOT Glass Windshields; DOT Electric Windshield Wipers; DOT Electric Windshield Washers; DOT Highway Tires; DOT Seat Belts; Two road inspections - (1. Cops 2. SOS Agent) Manual mechanical cable Wheels Emergency Brakes w/handle between the seats; DOT Turn Signals; 4Way Flashers; Rear License Plate Light; Electric Horn; Rear View Mirror; Outside Rear mirrors; Mandatory Vehicle Insurance Limits; MichiganTitle & Registration. Applied State License Plates... I had almost $4000 in parts and labor! Can't Drive on the Interstate Highways. All other roads are a GO.
@@outdoorswiththerushings Yea the highways are kind of scary... but so are our ORV Routes! People are flying down these at 50-65 mph in mostly loose sand. My wife and I go out during the week but the rzr is parked from Friday at 5pm until Monday morning. It's just crazy around St Helen's ORV Park. I put Orange and an US Flags above the roof. Drive with additional light bar on when on the roads. The Rzr can cruise 55 mph so I can keep up with the flow of traffic. Top mph is about 64-66mph. Cops keep an eye on me until they see the rear license plate than they just back off and turn away. It really is nice to be legal. If it rains or the trail turns for the worst we just jump on the nearest blacktop or State roads let the rzr roll 55mph. Michigan doesn't have speed limits on their routes or trails unless they're in a town or congested areas. I'm waiting for that to change sometime soon!! These guys fly down these trails!!
