clutch & pressure plate kit came from (Classic Parts) # 90-007k 10-1/2'' plate 10-1/2'' disc. still need dust cover around bell housing and a few small things to be right
been missing your videos for a few months now. Can't wait to see some more of your work, you make it look easy but I know it takes a lot of work and talent to do what you do. You have the best you tube site for restoration work and I hope you can get started back.
Another great video, looking forward to the next one. Before seeing this if someone had come up to me and said use a slice of bread to pull out a pilot bearing I would have shaken my head. That is one of the slickest ideas I've seen in awhile.
I'm glad to see that you used lock tite and I never thought about changing the clutch while leaving the bell housing in place. I learned something new. Thank you.
Dude- this video is an epic lifesaver. Seriously thank you for making it- you have no idea how greatful I am for this. I’m slap bang in the middle of it right now, true legend.
That is amazing you can use bread to push out the pilot bearing and I can imagine the idea that the bread pushes out from under the bearing to pull it. Learn something new, I would have never thought of the idea. I have a 1957 Chevy step side truck with a 235 cu.inch engine. I got it cleaned up in the garage and now I have to get it back on the road. Good video, and continue to bring the videos out. I am ready to start my dad's 1963 C10 fleetside.
GM used the M318 3 speed Muncie tranny for many years it's the same tranny in my 63 C10. Many old timers called it the peanut tranny bcuz it's small, it's not very strong "But it gets the job done". I like the way you went about changing the clutch flywheel pressure plate and throwout bearing great job Gib. The old bread tool to get the pilot bearing out works just about every time😁... She sounds and drive's like a Old truck should and it's music to my old ears thanks for the ride along Brother 👍... Keep On Trucking 👍....
I've laid a muncie 4 speed on my chest many times back in the day with my 69 camaro. Miss the car. Laying on the ground, not so much. You make it look easy Steve. Good job.
I knew about grease but never thought about bread....I’ve also never seen a clutch that could be changed with the bell housing bolted to the engine.. . I think your test drive went thru my old neighborhood in Bartlett. . .
Bro......the bread was clutch!!!! Haha, seriously very cool trick took me bad to watching my great grandpa turn wrenches in his garage!!!! Love the channel keep up the great work!!!!!
Cool seeing the bread trick. I have always used wheel bearing grease. Seemed like the bread worked pretty good. I like to use a couple of 5 inch long threaded pins placed into the upper transmission bell housing bolt holes to slide the transmission on to to help line it up and hold it while starting the lower bolts. Nice work .
Gibson you are obviously very knowledgeable. I enjoy your videos. I learn a lot from them. I live in the 901 area code. I have a 69 C10 that I want to get back on the road. Any advise would be appreciated. Keep the videos coming.
I have seen that there was some Tornadoes in Nashville. I hope all is good with you and your family. I am a big fan of you videos!! For some body starting out your videos are the best learning without an instructor!! Also for someone that is seasoned there are great tips. Keep the videos coming.
Hola desde Argentina!! Espero estes bien. Y el covid. No te haya afectado. Me extraña no subas mas videos! Me sirvieron muchisimo a la armar mi Chevrolet 1963. Disfrute y aprendi muchísimo de tus videos. Muchisimas gracias
Nice work as always !! Another RU-vid mechanic used wheel bearing grease to do that. Great trick !!! Sounds like that motor needs either a valve adjustment or a new rocker shaft assembly. My first truck was also a 59 Apache with a rebuilt 6 cylinder. Sounded just like that and no matter how I tried to adjust those valves, they always sounded noisy like yours. Replaced the rocker assembly and it got nice and quiet. Honestly, don't remember if I replaced the rocker arms too or just the shaft. Too many years ago. ;o(
Thanks for the very helpful video. About to pull mine and fix the 3rd gear popping out issue that I can no longer ignore. I have thee Muncies laying in the garage. One of them is bound to have a good synchro in it ;-0
Another great video. I was wondering if you were going to change that transmission oil out the tail housing as you were bringing it down. I can smell that 80/90 wt now.
I have a question I’m working on a clutch on a 58 chevy Apache pick up 235 inline 6 now I replaced the clutch but not sure if I bring the clutch petal out for adjustment or drive the two nuts in to adjust the clutch?
Hi @Gibson63. Did you notice if the original clutch disc was 10'' in diameter? I bought this same kit for my '58 Apache, but when I took it apart the clutch disc was 10'' in diameter and I am trying to determine if kit with the 10.5" disc will work. Thanks
