What would a Tweed Vibrolux sound like in 1959? Today I'm plugging my trusty Fender Telecaster into this bad boy and giving you guys a range of tones from sparkling cleans to crispy full-blast "dimed" distortion.

I have a 57 vibrolux passed down to me from my grandfather. I feel extremely lucky to be able to say I’ve heard one, let alone own one.

I’ve made the mojotone 5f11 kit. Fun times. Great amp. Definitely has its own character and you have to get used to it. Great tremolo too.

I have a 1960 Vibrolux that was gifted to me in 84. It was painted black at the time.A dog or cat had urinated on the lower right hand corner( reason it was painted to hide the smell, especially when tubes warmed up) in 2018 i discovered what i had in original condition. It had since been reupholstered. and a new strap. ( other wise all original including speaker and electrolitic caps.)it's a great amp. Well worth any reproduction of it.

Absolutely, the breakup/volume on this amp is absolutely perfect for home recording. If anyone out there can find one for a good $$, grab it - you won't be disappointed.

Thanks! 🙏 depends on what kind of music you’re playing. I’d say for small-mid size bands that aren’t playing real hard/heavy rock it would totally keep up!!

The HW Princeton is pretty cool, but if you're gonna spend that kind of money, might as well buy a vintage one, or have somebody build one

Kind of! Quite a few mods from there... here's what the builder sent me: This amp started out as a partial Mojo Amp Kit and has been upgraded throughout for quieter operation and overall performance. This “narrow panel” 10 -15 watt amp was originally based on the Harvard but with an added tremolo circuit. The Harvard and Vibrolux are two of the more rare “Tweed” era amps. There are three instruments inputs on this 5F11 circuit as it was originally designed to allow for the use of multiple guitars or multiple instruments. The Tweed Vibrolux was produced between 1956-1961. An original schematic from the 50’s was used to replicate the original amps design parameters. I decided to not order the tubes or speaker that can be ordered with the kit. Instead, the power tubes are a matched pair of Tung-Sol 6V6GC, and the rectifier is a vintage GE 5Y3. The preamp tubes are both premium Mullard 12AX7. A Warehouse Speakers G10A AlNiCo was chosen for this amp. This speaker has sweet AlNiCo top end chime, smooth creamy mids, and substantial low end. Jupiter premium “vintage spec” tone caps were installed throughout, as well as period correct carbon comp resistors. Premium “F&T” power supply caps are also installed. 22 gauge vintage cloth “push back” hookup wire is used, along with heavier 18 gauge hookup wire for the heater circuit, just like was used back in the day. All hookup wires are carefully installed and routed with proximity effect in mind. All connections are hand wired and all ground locations are soldered directly to the chassis. The tube bias was set using a Compu-Bias tool. A modern 3 prong power cord is installed (just in case you might actually want to use the amp!). A single button tremolo footswitch is also included.

I agree.. I built a 1164 P-Reverb clone and it seemed to have bad juju until I rebuilt with a non-Fender style control panel. For Tweeds I clone, I have custom badges made.

I own an original Harvard which has the same circuit. I feel like the cabinet size of Vibrolux is too big.

I’m about to order one and was going to order the deluxe cab so that I can fit a 12” speaker. Do you think it needs a 10”? I wanted a 12” because I have a Marshall combo with a 10” and wanted the vibrolux to sound more full round than my Marshall. I was torn between the tweed vibrolux or a blackface Princeton clone, but I think I like the tweed sound a little bit more I’d appreciate your thoughts since you prefer the 10”
