At 2:12 begins discussion of what often is mistaken for arrogance in INTJs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
** General video description **
With reference to the foregoing interview with Sallie (INTJ) and CJ (INFP) in Parts 2, 3, and 4 of this series, I discuss many instances of suspected verbal expression of the workings of Sallie's dominant cognitive function of Introverted INtuition (Ni) and perhaps even her inferior cognitive function of Extroverted Sensing (Se).

50-year old INTJ here. Yes, those things you noticed (smelling the honeysuckle, needing a good dose of nature, etc.) are definitely her Se at work. I do that a LOT! My friends in grad school joked with me for saying things like "look at the brilliant green color of that grass lawn!" They thought it was so weird and funny. I always especially notice smells and sounds and it's interesting to me that others don't seem to notice. I've always done it since my twenties but it seems to be a lot more stressful now when I hear certain noises (e.g. traffic, loud music, etc.) than it did when i was younger because I really can't stand noises interrupting me when I'm trying to think or study. So that's almost a daily stressor. I also suspect that INTJs in general have a preference for nature. The INTJs I know all love nature and 3 of us actually have either careers or serious hobbies related to nature (being environmental biologists and one is a weather man). My theory on the nature passion is that due to our need for beauty, you just can't go wrong in nature. Nature is always beautiful, peaceful and quiet and thus conducive to providing a great environment for our intuitive function to work unimpeded.

i love what you said about INFJs. Yes, we will take up the onerous burden of trying to make sure things are going swimmingly for others, although about half the time, I personally am asking myself, "How on earth did I get into this situation, and when is the earliest possible moment I can get out of it?"

As a 39 yr old INTJ, I appreciate all the Se in this video. Including your hair ; ) In all seriousness though, your hair is cool and suits you, and the colors, patterns, and artwork are not lost on someone like me.

Hey legendzfall -- Why did you mention your age? What's the pertinence of it to the rest of what you were saying? (If an historical marker matches your initials), what I heard of your work did a lot for _my_ Se. ;-) You're damn good at what you do. So surprising in an INTJ,! The painting behind me was done by an INTP friend, by the way. Not much talking in MBTI Nerdworld about INTx artists and how their cognitive functions typically can play out in _those_ fields, but I've known many. Perhaps should make a video about that.

Just re-listened to the beginning of this video. Now I know why.

Regarding the remarks about sitting alone in public, yes, I like that too unless I really need to focus, then I stay in my office at home (my Se makes it difficult to focus in public because I'm constantly distracted noticing everything going on around me - I pretty much get nothing done). But when you were trying to elicit details about that from her and she went into why. You are absolutely correct. I am ALWAYS asking WHY about almost everything that could have a cause. I want to get to the crux of something, to the heart of it, to it's essence. I want to whittle away all the superfluous stuff and determine with what really matters. I also totally related to her about having to talk to people (e.g. at the gym, walking past people in the hall, etc.). It's drudgery, but yes, I do feel compelled to do it. It's a necessary thing to do if you want to grease the wheels of relationships with coworkers, neighbors, etc. So for me at least, it's function is a means to an greater end rather than enjoying the act in and of itself. I'm thinking further down the road as to how it will benefit me to have these relationships (or even just to periodically level up my social skills).

I'm glad you've returned. Your articulation, erudition, and sincerity makes you a favored analyst of salience.
