What is O-RAN? An O-RAN or Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) is a concept based on interoperability and standardization of RAN elements including a unified interconnection standard for white-box hardware and open-source software elements from different vendors. O-RAN architecture integrates a modular base station software stack on off-the-shelf hardware which allows baseband and radio unit components from discrete suppliers to operate seamlessly together. This webinar delivers the basic idea about O-RAN, what is O-RAN alliance and how the O-RAN is working in LTE and 5G Network.
The architecture of Open RAN allows flexibility in deployment. The RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) developed by the O-RAN Alliance is intended to enable AI/ML-based access to the elements in the radio network. You'll learn about the details of RIC, including the split onto Near-Real-Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) and Non-Real-Time RIC (Non-RT RIC), along with the O-RAN Alliance-defined interfaces related to both, namely E2 and A1. The RIC is like the operating system for the RAN. As a software defined platform, the RIC brings intelligence, programmability, and extensibility to the RAN. The RIC uses AI and machine learning (AI/ML) applications that to automate RAN operations and support innovative use cases. With the RIC, network operators have a platform to deliver new functions and user experiences with greater agility and ease.
In this webinar, we cover the following topics:
✔︎ O-RAN definitions and entities
✔︎ O-RAN architecture and deployment options
✔︎ RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC)
✔︎ Near-RT RIC and E2
✔︎ Non-RT RIC and A1
O-RAN is a new approach to building mobile networks. It offers much promise and the possibility of lowering costs and speeding innovation.
