Wow, I'm blown away by the response this video has received already. Sorry if I can't respond to everyone's comments. Massive thanks to everyone for their kind words and sharing what this song means to them. This was emotional for me as a NW-newbie so I can only imagine what it is like for long-time NW fans. It's wonderful that we have this platform to share our love for this art and how it gets us through tough times. I feel like this song encapsulates what it means to turn something negative and tragic into something beautiful, inspiring and uplifting. Like Tuomas and his 'Pendulum' let's hope we can turn things around and get back to good times soon! I appreciate you all. ❤️

The part during the concert where Emppu and Marco go over to Tuomas to give support, gets me each time I watch it. That last part, part V is titled Mother and Father for a very good reason. As with everyone who's experienced something devastating on an emotional scale, as humans, we go back to our foundation, where we feel safest and protected... home. Part V has the words from Tuomas's mother said to him when he went home, it's one of the reasons that he asks for all of the vocals taken out of his ear mix. As with all emotional trauma's in life we have to eventually stand up, dust ourselves off, and go on. To fully encompass moving on, cleanly with a fresh start, we have to forgive. This is encompassed so beautifully with the ending lyrics of this song. "In the end I will always love you....the beginning." Ultimately it was God. To me though this album is a masterpiece, for the simple reason being that it helped me through the devastation of being diagnosed with Stage 3 Pancreatic Cancer and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and all that followed at the age of 31. I was a Nightwish fan from the beginning, back when you could ONLY find their music at the "International Music Section" at your local FYE or BORDERS because NO ONE else had even heard of them, but it's also why I'll always be a Nightwish fan. Thank you so much for doing this reaction! As always, listen, appreciate, and enjoy!! God Bless!!!

I've always thought their going over to stand with Tuomas was more them showing their solidarity (them "standing as one") with the decision that was made by them all to part ways with Tarja than it was to give Tuomas support...but maybe I'm wrong, or maybe it's a little of both....

firs of all, thank you for this brilliant reaction. What always gets me is the way Floor portrays the emotions in this song. Because it isn't her emotions, it's his. It's Tuomas's. Also, I have a sister who is highly sensitive, so I know what a toll it takes to open yourself up to feel these emotions, and then having to turn it off, to do the songs that came after justice. It really takes a strong persons to be able do that, and not be consumed by what everyone else is feeling. Because when you open like this, in this situation, you feel everything, you feel the emotions of thousands of people.

Very good! Most reactors who don't research the why of the composition fail to understand the words are Tuomas', and how he felt after everything "hit the fan". Also, as the song ends, Marko and Emppu are with Tuomas in solidarity and the last notes Floor sings have so much empathy in them. You can see the compassion on her face. I am always in tears by this time. When Floor finishes the last note, she turns her head from the crowd, towards Tuomas, making sure he is okay. Only then does she turn back to the crowd and say "Thank you". That's when I break.

Tuomas said that he saved himself by doing this song...but maybe not actually from suicide but mentally. He also said that he really thought to end Nightwish back then. But fortunately he did not....and new beginning came. This just tells you the meaning of that moment in 2005. It must have been hard for him to perform this and maybe therefore Emppu also checked his condition in the middle. Remember that Emppu is the only original member with Tuomas left (Tarja being the third to found NW).

Great reaction bro 🤘🤘. This next bit was posted to another reactor about a month ago by Hythix, so I ain’t taking any credit. “Here’s the thing about Nightwish man. They may not be everybody’s fave band and they don’t need to be, they may not be everybody’s fave sound, and they don’t need to be. But, they are home. they are where you go to when everyone else let you down. They are family. You go a week or two without any Nightwish, listening to everything else but them, and then your first song back with them will have you in tears without fail each time. They don’t need to be the best, or even your favourite. But they are the most important.” ❤️🎶🤘

You also might notice that, in the called out 3 minutes, the lighting-girders above the stage start to angle down A LOT. It becomes obvious at the beginning of Chapter V, when they obstruct most of the upper screens before slowly raising again. They "cage" the band, with others saying they symbolize a blade coming down.

"Mother and Father" gets me every time. Letting yourself open and become vulnerable in this section takes a lot, but feel it's worth it. People have so many different reactions and emotions to it. The last conversation I had with my mom before she died was her telling me to keep looking until I find peace with myself (lost much of my independence and struggled to accept it) and will always have her love standing with me wherever I go. So, this part just hurts so bad, and I cry for a long time. But, crying can feel relieving.

Im no longer embarrased nor afraid to acknowledge that this song hits me hard every single time, because i have a long history and solid experience with suffering from depression myself. There has also been massive panic attacks,so listening just to Tuomases own words, makes so much sence to me in a weird way, like people who hasnt experienced it really wont understand. But imaging waking up fighting yourself day by day, until complete exhaustion and then some. Heavy depression doesnt really have any timeout, nor does heavy panic attacks/anxiety. They will beat and kick you while you are exhausted, just wishing for a 5 minute break. Breaking down your own mind and mood, and then your motivation and will to live etc. It is a type of hellhole i dont wish upon anyone,at least not anyone with something good in them. Strongest moment for me is when Tuomas from the top of his lungs, sings his own parents words towards the end. The look on his face, his entire body language just breaks me. But he has competition with powerhouse, the Valkyrie goddess herself fighting to hold her tears back at 22:25 followed by her extremely toned down, emotional "thank you" at the very end. She is allways much louder, more energetic, positive. But it makes perfect sence,Floor had just recovered from depression and a burnt out state of mind, when Tuomas invited her to join them in 2012. If anyone could relate to Tuomases pain and suffering,it was Floor. You can see her looking over at Tuomas, making sure he is okay after shes finished singing. She would be too emotional by looking over at him while singing. She wanted to do his song justice, and OH MAN did she deliever!!! Not gonna ignore Marco on this song either,Tuomas composed and wrote him the perfect parts once again. Marco was furious with everyone that bombarded Tuomas with hatred and blame after the whole collision with Tarja and her awful manager and husband Marcelo. Like the guys in Nightwish im not too mad at Tarja in all this,i just think her husband was behind most of it,kept pulling Tarjas strings. Because they noticed a sudden change in her attitude,on tour,on studio recordings etc. The ones that gets the most lyrical hatred? Marcelo..... But thats a entirely different song lol.

Even if you normally can't do much with Nightwish, you can still claim after listening to this masterpiece that it is something quite extraordinary, which is very rare in this form and which can definitely compete with the "really big ones".

The song itself says it all. 5 parts, 5 stages of grief. Tuomas must have a weird love-hate relationship to this song. An absolute masterpiece, but also a story of a different version of him. Glad he has managed to move on and Nightwish with him. Thanks for another reaction

Mother and Father always gets me. One thing I didn't notice when I saw this video for the first time is when Mother and Father starts the band is all gathered around the drum set except for Tuomas. He was off to the side by himself. Isolated and alone. It's like a visual representation of how he must have been feeling during all of the chaos following Tarja's departure from the band and the ensuing fallout. When I first noticed that it was like an emotional gut punch. Maybe I'm reading too much into it and maybe it was pure coincidence that they were in one area and he was off to the side but that's how it struck me and you know...a picture...a thousand words.

Dear Thomas, i am so impressed by the way you have set up your channel, and how you do this, giving it all, in your reactions and showing your inner emotions. You are a very sensitive man, so real, so human, and so sincere. It is just as touching, as this exceptional live performance you are reacting to. I really enjoyed it. And the high quality of your footage, the lightning, the camera positions, (you use two camera's now, which is a lot of extra editing) the layout of the total screen, man you really know how to do this. I watch a lot of reaction channels, but you really stand out to all the others. Big compliments here. My congratulations for reaching 5000 subscribers, you deserve it, and if you keep up this quality, your channel may grow to 50.000 subs or more in the future. Really inspiring. Thanks very much for all the work and eye for detail you put in all this, and the song and band member research you do before you start shooting your vid. As said before, you feel like a brother, i so synchronize with your feelings when listening to this song, and it even feels good when pinking a tear away at the same moment. Poet and the pendulum is not a song, it's a symphony, a masterpiece, at the level and category of the greatest classical compositions of the greatest classical composers humankind has ever known. For me, it's one of the deepest songs ever written and composed, and in this live recording, one of the best live performances ever put to stage in human history. In summary, these extremely gifted artists, let us feel en experience what it means, to live this very short moment in time on planet Earth, as a human being. Keep up your good work my friend, and all the best wishes to you and the future of your high quality channel. Thank you.

Hey Paul! Wow, I don't know what to say. That might just be the nicest comment I've ever received and that makes my day, thank you so much brother! You are very kind, eloquent and real gentleman. I'm really glad that you can enjoy these videos both for the production and the content. I honestly don't feel like I'm doing anything that special but it's just so great to connect with good people like yourself and connect through shared appreciation of this music. I'm very appreciative for all of these comments and learning more information about the bands, the songs and what it means to people. This song in particular really is something special, which is saying something considering how great their other work is. It really is a masterpiece like you say and evokes very different emotions. Thank you again mate, that means a lot to me. Take care and see you next time! :)

Awesome reaction and thoughts! Tuomas is genius, the way he writes music is just unbelievable, but he is also great lyricist, what a package! I've been Nightwish fan since 2000 and Oceanborn, they instantly became my favorite band, cause this blend of powerful metal, symphony and opera just blew me away instantly. Dream Theater was my favorite band up to that point, they are still in second place. So when it was announced they are parting ways with Tarja it was devastating cause this magic was suddenly broken, we thought that's the end of it, what a shame. Especially when Tuomas brought Anette who couldn't sing any of that magic from first 5 albums we all thought that's it, game over. Thankfully then came Floor and resurrected Nightwish and brought that magic back. But yeah, it was really sad even for us fans, so it is impossible to imagine how it was for Tuomas, and not just the pain of having to part with her but also all the stress that accumulated prior to that moment and then also all the scrutiny that came from the outside. But there is certainly one great thing that is result of all that misery, and that is Poet and the Pendulum! :)

Thank you again, Aleksandar! I appreciate you sharing all of this. Such a deep and immense history, it must've been crazy for fans like yourself that have been through is all from the start. I can only imagine what they went through and I'm grateful that it eventually resulted in this Masterpiece. :)

Seeing someone react to this helps me re-experience for the first time. The depth of the music is part of what ties us all to Tuomas and Nightwish. Loved your comments on the music as usual but this "reaction", IMO, goes way beyond. This has to be one of the most empathetic reactions to this song I've ever watched along with. Thank you for what you prepped and brought into it as well as what you shared throughout it. Much appreciated.

Thomas, when this album was released in 2007, I listened to Nightwish, but wasn´t paying attention to all the things that were going on around the band. So when I bought the album (the first ever I bought from them) I didn´t realize the gravity of it all, and especially the importance and meaning of this huge song. I just enjoyed it as a really unbelievable masterpiece that I liked to listen over and over again. But now, as I found this whole reactor scene on RU-vid, I learned a lot, and now I see the song in a completely new light. So I kind of understand what you felt during this reaction, especially given that you seem to have strong sense of empathy and you combine that with love for quality music.

That is some great whiskey you have there my friend. This song was very cathartic for Tuomas and the whole band. It was a way of killing off and burying the emotional anguish that this incident caused for Tuomas. A piece of him died and was buried. I think the chants by Floor at the end represents the cries from the grave of that piece of Tuomas that died. Kind of a lost innocence. His dream of Nightwish was in the balance and he needed to find a way to move forward and rediscover his love for writing to reignite his dream that was and is Nightwish. He does have difficulty playing this song live. He often requests that the vocals be removed from his monitors. Loved your reaction Thomas. You did a wonderful job with this song as usual. Love your passion and good natured approach to these videos. Well done my friend. Peace.

"The Poet and the Pendulum is the first song in Nightwish's 6th Album, Dark Passion Play. This song is one of Tuomas' most personal songs, dealing with Tarja Turunen leaving the band and his feelings of it. The song at its time was the longest Nightwish song in duration, and is now the second longest song only to The Greatest Show on Earth. Clocking at around 14 minutes. The song is divided into 5 sections, each with different themes and styles being applied: White Lands of Empathica, Home, Pacific, Dark Passion Play, and Mother and Father. There is a demo version by Marco Hietala, with even darker lyrics. "

With all the creativity, Toumas implies a 3 minute deadline within the song, that is uncanning, I mean one has to build to a point.. mark.... and then put some wonderful music with serious meaning, related to the song, not just 3 minutes of random banter, and, then , 3 minutes, boom, hit the nail on the head ,mark...! And it’s all under control for Nighwish, so amazing, because we all know they can power out the music if needed but it’s so powerful without being crazy! If that makes sense 🤣, maybe I’m crazy 😜
