Of course, ceramic insert and sapphire crystal is a step up and better...but looks-wise IMO I wouldn't say it looks better(subjective), it's just different than the stock build and I like both! Looks really nice! cool mod. SUBSCRIBED!
Nice. I'm with those saying that it doesn't really look better but it does look different. Now, having said that I wouldn't mind these mods myself but out of the box, the SRPD79 is easily one of the best looking watches made.
Thanks, of course I agree, I guess they are trying very hard to offer many options with the new 5 sports line but have to still keep to the $200 or so range, for now I'm pleased to be able to mod them!
Aside from the improvements on the crystal, I think I like more the original one the the modified, the original one looks manly, the modified one looks great but I think more on the teenager like side..
Thanks! Mostly www.dlwwatches.com, www.namokiMODS.com and www.watchandstyle.net I have a video on 3 new Kermit mods dropping today, keep a look out for it!
I can arrange an English/arabic day version from Dubai, if the watch is bought from the Middle East or Singapore it usually comes with the day in Arabic/english
love the video..both watches look fantastic. the one question i have (as a relatively new watch enthusiast ) can you make it so that this watch has a screw down crown when you are going through the mods that are available?
Thanks! Yes it’s possible to change the case to a screw down crown too, I’ve done this here for example: svkwatches.ae/products/srpd79-blackout-sub-built-to-order?_pos=1&_sid=81ee253e1&_ss=r it just adds some cost for the case swap too, you can choose any case shape/design then too
Hi there. This ones on a matte black PVD coin edge bezel - was from namokiMODS. I think I mention the parts in the video too. The inserts I suggest getting from dlw watches - they have the best finish (YM Black Ceramic), they have the strap and all parts for this style. I have since made a few more I’ll be sharing soon!
Great video - I have just bought a seiko 5 and looking to get in to the world of modding. Are there any things you'd recommend to someone just starting?
Start with a cheap watch like an eBay skx, I’ll be doing a video on a full mod process for one of those soon as i get asked this a lot, buy a cheap toolkit of amazon and don’t get annoyed if you mess the first few up, I’ve learnt a lot in the last year doing it and still learning. Very rewarding hobby so stick at it!
Yes of course, here is the link to that exact watch from the video on my website, you can request a cut-to-length rubber deployant strap too: svkwatches.ae/products/copy-of-srpd79-blackout-orange-built-to-order?_pos=4&_sid=aab09ea12&_ss=r
@@svkwatches So I used your example as an inspiration and modded mine with a similar bezel insert but used a flat AR sapphire crystal with a day-date magnifier (old eyes). I also put a sailcloth strap with a deployant clasp on it. Interesting though that my display case back does not say "Made in China" on it. Perhaps because I bought it in the States? Don't know.
so how easy is it to change out the crystal? invoiced when buying the bezel, on Namoki. they say change the crystal otherwise there will be a gap. that true?
I’m definitely interested just with a black steel bracelet. How do I contact you? I want the bezel, sapphire crystal just not the same rubber bracelet. Just purchased the watch so I should have by tmrw. 🍻
No bevel, there is a tiny bevel edge but it’s right up to to the insert so not really visible - crystal from either dlw or Namoki work well with this mod
I used the one from the original watch, but if you need a spare you can get the SEPD/5KX gaskets from Namoki, they are a bit thicker than the regular SKX007 size
Is it possible to post the parts you used ? I had ordered an insert and a bezel from namoki mods for that model but the watch repairer stated that the bezel doesn't fit with that watch. Can you post the exact parts you bought from namoki mods? I'll promise to subscribe if you do.
As long as it’s a skx007 bezel you ordered it will fit - what he might mean is that the bezel insert won’t fit the standard, flat crystal. You’ll need a double dome sapphire (no bevel edge) do match the sloping bezel insert. Aside from that it’s about it
As a PADI Open Water Mixed Gas Certified Diver, I disagree. You could dive with this and the visibility would be just fine in open water situations. If you’ve never been 40-50 feet below the surf, you don’t know how bright it still is underwater (salt water). Now would I go 100 feet down with this, no, but a drift dive or shallow entry dive, yes, you’d be fine. The bigger question is “are you comfortable diving without a screw down crown?” - I’ve dived with my submariner and the screw down crown makes for a very safe choice…granted you’re talking $335 oops vs a $10,000 holy Fukk should something go wrong on the bottom.
