From here, the RCA was the most happening, listening 2x here with good phones. I'm a vintage tube dealer. That's the dual getter RCA 5R4GY and it's gotten popular and more valuable over the last 7-10 years.
Hey Mickey ... this was just such a SWEET and heart warming sound. Bring me back to my 80's-90's when I had all kinds of tube gears modified.Including variations of and HIGHLY moded Dinaco Stereo 70's and even a church organ tube amp by very good hi HI-FI guru friend Dan Fanny (American Hybrid Technology based in Trenton, NJ). I only wish, that I still had one of these here in CR with me. I am still tweaking my own made speakers and also foils and LOVE it.
Really enjoy your passion and delivery. Also wanted to say thanks. I am just beginning the audio journey and this video let me know i am on the right track as i also picked up a set of Forte’s off Craigslist and am powering with a Jadis tube integrated. Keep em coming!
Killer Divad, i started with Jolida as well.. then I made a business modifying them, so PM or call me if you want the scoop on how to make it sound amazing. Did you get a 502 or one with KT88 ? Or 302/EL34 ?
It was a GY not a GB. He's got it right in the actual video but not in the video description. And I have to agree with you- the RCA was the best in this shootout.
I was hoping he had a Brimar there to test. They are rated very highly amongst 5R4GY tubes, as are Philips and Sylvanias. The RCA sounded the best in this shootout. The Cetron " potato masher" was not very good compared to the others tested here.
if you want to compare correctly you should keep anode voltage the same , tubes sound different when the anode voltage is changed, and that will most of the times happen if you change rectifier tube, so you don`t know what you hear.
Hey Campo007, I’m Craig from the UK hijacking my wife’s channel to ask how you are, love your videos, was looking forward to seeing how you got on with your new passive and your updated AN monoblocks, I’ve recently got a pair of monoblocks and I’m now on a tube search lol, hope you’re well
I would have liked to have your personal opinion of the merits and caveats of each tube. I have a unit coming and it will come with a throw-away rectifier similar to a throw-away interconnect in box. It is the best piece of my system and I want to give it some tlc...
@@OCDHIFiGuy yes, plugs right in. Look up weber copper cap. Make sure you buy the one that does not have resistors in it, as the one with resistors they are used to mimic tube sag. No rectifier tube sag in hi-fi power supply makes a nice difference in my opinion. You can also make a very simple rectifier using $50 cent diodes and an old rectifier tube for the socket. Your B+ in your amp will go up slightly, but it should be fine if you power capacitors are in good condition.
Sounds fun, but youre freaking me out a little bit.. I dont want to blow it up..lol Wait,, I just looked it up... cool ! I'll buy some and check them out !
@@OCDHIFiGuy If your amp has a fuse you should be fine. BUT!!!! Make sure you don't have one of those expensive fuses that I saw you review on another video in when you do it. Install a cheap fuse in case you have any issues it won't blow the expensive one. But you should be fine if you buy a weber, if you build one make sure is done right before you turn your amp on.
My Dynaco ST-70 tended to blow fuses when the rectifiers put on some mileage. I had good luck just replacing the rectifier with a solid state Weber Copper Cap. Works great as you can see in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cLIOW28RxXo.html
Why do audiophiles all listen to the same artist. Let me guess Steely Dan and MArk Knophler.......Uggh........Why dont you try listening to music that you actually like and not listening to music because some magazine told you to do so. You people dont listen to music you listen to gear and indulge in confirmation bias......
On better gear stuff sounds different. On one level you hear how bad the recordings are and you can hardly listen to your music. Go up to a higher level and then most of your music sounds incredible. One law is everyone seriously into audio thinks they've heard what's possible and therefore they know it all. You have to find someone who's used to the very best, which is Audio Note level 5, when you need advice.
