Chad reviews reaction coordinate diagrams contrasting endothermic and exothermic reactions. He explains how to identify Delta H, the activation energy, and the transition state on a reaction coordinate diagram. He then introduces and defines bond dissociation energy (aka bond enthalpy) and covers trends for them. Chad concludes the lesson by working an example to show how bond dissociation energies can be used to calculate an approximate value for Delta H.

@@Logan-tx3lk Ahh my mistake. I also just made a lesson on this topic in my high school chemistry playlist. I recently released it and assumed your comment was regarding that lesson rather than this one in my organic playlist. My bad. Best on your final exams!🙂

at 11;23 u said had we not done broken - formed and done reactants - products.. are u able to show me the work for if I wanted to do reactants - prodcuts. since u said in the vid the way u showed was broken-fixed ? thanks I wanna see the reactants- products way in addition to broken-formed so I can see how they. both work

Amazing video prof! C-N is less E than C-C But isn't N more EN than C?

The trend in EN I explained here only counts when we have different atoms involved in the bond, so we are comparing C-N, C-O, C-Cl etc where the atoms are not the same. When we have 2 identical atoms bonded together and no electronegativity difference, the bonding electrons are shared equally which tends to give relatively greater bond energy than polarized bonds - for example, the H-H bond enthalpy is 436kJ/mol, but we have to take into account size, lone pair repulsion etc also in these cases so there is not as simple a general trend as comparing the examples I gave here. Hope that helps!

Dude moves so fast that he overtook his own sound :J Seriously though, there sound is very out of sync in this video… :/ 10:25 So the first parentheses (in blue) is the activation energy on the graph?
