An oil catch can is an absolute must. Most guys think that it's only needed for a direct-injected engine which the hemis are not. But that oil mist going from the PCV valve back into the intake is going to bake onto the intake valves and eventually degrade power. On my 392 I drain away about a 1/8 cup of oily fluid out of the can every 2000 miles, and that's just with street driving. Any aggressive driving will produce more blowby and more oil/water vapor out of the crankcase venting system. So go get that catch can kit and install it as soon as possible.
I did a 90mm BBK Throttle body and JLT CAI and had a custom tune done at Richard Petty's garage. Before tune the car dynoed 417 RWHP after tune 430 RWHP. 13 RWHP gain for about 1,000 bucks not bad,I definitely say it was worth it
My cai is open its a k&n but it seals real tight once the hoods closed .a 180° thermostat makes the whole engine run cooler too. Your best point is tuning . I agree 100% all the bolt ons in the world wont do crap if the cars not told theres something different .diablo helped me a bunch .
Great Video Brotha 👍 Subscribed. Only thing I don’t agree with is the after market exhaust, that’s 1k-2k you can use for something worth it. (Like a Cam or Drop in Forged Rods & Pistons) Stock Cats and 3” Straight Pipe all the way thru is all you need on the 392 (Electric Cutouts if you want to burst some ear drums) Some people got more money to spend 🤷♂️ but the little power an exhaust adds is killed off by how much it weighs.
What about rear end differential gear changes?? Going from a 3.09 to a 3.92 would be a big difference in acceleration. I have a Ram 1500 Hemi with the 8 speed and 3.92 locking differential (a must) and have surprised quite a few folks. The only other mod it has is a K&N filter. But seriously - gearing makes a difference. Also, if the driver loses weight, that helps :)
It's funny when I hear people knock performance intake & exhaust investments. You may only receive 10-20 hp gains, but the throttle response gains you get gives you immensely explosive access to aaaaall that hp you already have. Add to that a high flowing exhaust, & you're shred'n tires in such manners that would make John Force peanut butter & JEEEEALOUS! Smart video brah!
Do you agree with these mods? Do you disagree? I'd love to hear input from you guys on what you ultimately think the best mods are for the 6.4L 6.2L 6.4L and 5.7L V8 Hemis.
Catch cam is bling , not bad , but not necessary without FI Agreed on the intake , not so much on the TB until heads/cam Tune , 100% Catback , another waste of money when dodge gave us 2.75” catback with aev. Only change would/could be muffler choice. Hf cats or catless will NOT see any gains until the 800 Hp mark ... so not really necessary until built. 1)First and foremost: tires are the best first mod 2) tune is next on my list 3) tazer has many good options(one being track mode) After that , depending on how far one wants to take it : cam/heads/longtubes/nitrous/FI also depending on availability, I really love how this thing runs on e85 so injectors and tune for that.
My 2018 Scat pack charger pushs about 510 to the wheels. Mods list -legmaker intake -billet oil catchcan -borla atak cat back full exhaust system - tuned for 93 octean ( soon gonna be tuned with diablo Predator2 for E85 ) - MSD coils - will be adding 4”” aluminum drive shaft to go with the michekys (Very soon a whipple 2.9 supercharger going to the beast engine bay - I should be pushing close to 800 to the wheels after getting tuned )
Great tips. Will definitely make these mods. Already have cold air intake, but it's open and need to add heat shield. The 2018 daytona 392 already came with a upgraded exhaust when I bought it. Thanks again
Get the scat pack charger. Not challenger. Don't get the challenger unless it's the hellcat. At least with the charger you can call it your family car when you lose to the 18 5.0s and the 6 gen camaros.
The Fitness Life I just did a price compare it’s cheaper and only 400lbs heavier plus 4 doors I’m going with the charger (most likely) I still have to test drive both
id love a scat pack but a sxt is all I can afford rn and all I really want ik v8's are better and faster but id be upgrading to a sxt from a 08 chevy impala XD
I know this video is old, did u end up getting a custom tune on your car near you area? If so where? No where on east side of WA does a custom tune on dodges... May have to head over to West side of state for it. Let me know bro thanks
So if it runs hot why not swap out the thermostat for a cooler one I know in some factory publications from days of yore said to swap a 180 degree thermostat read later things saying the same would that be a logical mod at least to make the other mods work better due to the cooler temps?
So not getting a tune as my car is a 2019. So I should not waste my time on a CAI, Borla cat back, and throttle body? I have a 1321 and no idea if I can even lower it without making it perform worse.
Does legmaker make intakes for 2021 widebody scatpacks!?? I looked and the only thing they had is for the srt Durango which is a 392 6.4L as well. I would imagine that’s compatible with it as well
I have a cold air intake that DOESN'T have a cover on the top. But when I close the hood, it fits perfectly and seals it. Is that okay? Also it sucks in air from down below kind of like what you got.
Yo what exhaust or tips do you have? I just got a 2017 Challenger Scat Pack and not a fan of the rectangle exhaust. I love the way it sounds already so yeah I'm not looking for anything aggressive.
Droning is a tone that you hear in the cab when cruising on the freeway. When you do certain mods to your exhaust there will be a drone sound coming from the rear of the car. 4 cylinder on the freeway is called cylinder deactivation which allows your V8 to get 4 bangerish fuel economy on the freeway!
@@InnoV8Official oh ok good to know thanks! The first car i am going to get(not my 1st car just first fast car to mod) is going to be the charger srt8 and i just now found out online that the 2011 and 2012 have the 6.4l with 470hp compared to the older models that have the 6.1 with 425 so i am definitely going to get a 2012. Just read on a site that the cylinder deactivation mode was implemented on the 2012 it doesnt say anything about 2011 but i didnt read all of it.. Thanks for your response i cant wait to get one of these cars :D
@@InnoV8Official You no longer need an unlocked pcm.. Edge's New Pulsar Tuning Module for 2015-2019 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi Trucks edgeproducts.com/edges-new-pulsar-tuning-module-for-2015-2019-ram-1500-5-7l-hemi-trucks/ A variation for the charger/challenger is also available.
JLT Performance is where I got mine. There are less expensive options however doing research I found that to be the favorite. I stand by it myself. The tube from after the air is “scrubbed” is perfectly clean no residue at all.
I completely agree with you 100% bro. I am getting a BBK 85mm throttle body with a Leg Maker TRUE cold air intake that goes down the fender and then getting a custom or dyno tune and I guarantee that I will end up gaining at least 25 or 30 WHP with incredible throttle response and shift points and the car will be in a different league. It will be fast enough and totally worth it. PS the ZF 8 speed Auto ROCKS i dont even freakin care what any one thinks about it. Thanks for the info it reinforced my ideas and plans.
I have a 2019 dodge charger scat pack. I have a seven year bumper-to-bumper warranty. I don’t think I’ll be modern anything for a while but if I put a CAT scan on there will it void my warranty? I tried contacting The dealership I bought of that but they can give me a definite answer
Do you have part numbers for the hellcat intake, or a list of everything you need. I have a mopar cold are for my 2010 srt8 but I like that set up much better. Lol I loved your hater impression!! Great video Thanks Sid
Hey Destroyer Grey, love your video. You seem to have a gift for keeping your audience. I currently have a Challenger SP but about to turn her in for a 2019 SP Widebody. Since I enjoy going to the track on a regular basis along with my wife (also drives a Chally SP), I'm actually looking into going another direction as far as "efficient" power especially out of a dig. I'll be ordering a set of JBA stainless shorty headers (direct fit-no tune..replacing the stock Apache) and have a customized ceramic coating process done by a local specialist. Also, I'll be installing a 1-piece aluminum drive shaft by DSS as well as the Hellcat airbox. I simply wanted to attempt something different to see what kind of gains it will yield at the track. I'll keep you posted Sir!!
Start with a manual challenger 6.4 without active fuel management/cylinder deactivation. If you plan on owning it long term. Trash system that causes more problems than it worth. For 1-2 mpg highway. No thanks. You won't save enough to cover the $4500 bill you will get at 175k miles. ask any good mechanic about General Motors and FCA Active fuel management problems and he will tell you. 🏃 Away.
Because people are lazy and will forget to empty it. Lol.. many mechanics say the same thing. It's only needed if you wanna save the top end/intake of your engine and preserve the life of it. If you don't care about that.. so be it. lol
I build engines for a living. I've built and rebuilt hundreds of all makes and models(mostly V8). With only rare exceptions, catch cans do nothing but CATCH your money. I've torn down newer Hemi's with 100k+ miles and the intakes were clean. Keep your oil changed...with a QUALITY oil of the CORRECT viscosity and you'll not need one with these engines. Some of the older LS's NEEDED them but not really a "Hemi" problem due to their design and single valve design. It's "easy" to make an 11 second car...but that extra second will cost you a LOT of money and time. Most bolt on mods do very little over OEM design. Hemi's do NOT run a "Lot" hotter than other engines. Who makes this stuff up?
5.7 Hemi. Added a catch can at 95k and at 105k i switched out the 5.7 intake manifold for a ported 6.4 manifold. I run fuel cleaner in my car every couple fill ups so my intake valves were pretty much spotless. But the old manifold and the intake runners in the heads were very caked up with oil I could only assume from the pcv valve. Regular oil changes, never more then 3,500 miles at the most. Whether the catch can works or not is up for debate, but to say hemis dont get gunked up with oul from the pcv is not true.
I think the active exhaust on my 2016 scat sounds incredible, down shifting with the 6 speed gets the snap crackle pop that's awesome. I'm planning on getting the twin snorkel 2019 hellcat hood that has functional ram air tunneled right over the air box + mopar cold air that has the gasket to bottom side of hood.I really like the destroyer grey, would like to get a 6cyl awd charger in the grey for my commuter car, that way I would stop driving my baby back and forth to work racking up 80 miles a day.(just can't help my self, it's hard to go back to a hamburger when you got a taste for steak)
I have a 6.4L 392 V8 hemi dodge Durango SRT and I put a K&N cold air intake kit on it and I noticed alot cooler temps from the engine and cooling down alot faster as well and alot better acceleration.
#1 .In-line mufflers are FAR less restrictive than multi-chamber mufflers... #2. THE LARGER AND COLDER THE AIR INTAKE , THE LARGER THE "COMBUSTION" CYCLE..... MORE TORQUE/POWER .
I also did the mopar intake and it uses the open headlight and the air coming through the hood scoop. There is a tube that runs under hood from hood scoop to the top of airbox. When you close the hood it seals the box. Best intake I've had.
Driving a bone stock scat pack. The only mod is a short throw shifter that was on in when I bought it. Rides like a champ. Would love to do some subtle mods like this but, its really running like a top as is. So, I'm happy for now.
I ported a 392 hemi intake manifold and it was an impressive improvement. I know it will pickup more hp with a tune. I still haven’t installed the ported throttle body to go with the intake. What’s your thoughts on ported intake manifold?
Catch can check K&n drop in filter check Flomaster exhaust system check 3 out of 5 not bad Wants Long tube Better throttle body And camshaft Maybe one day
I just bought a 17 cpo charger scatpack from a dodge dealer in ohio. having it shipped to texas. It has 32K miles on it. should i expect some issues with it since it had no catch can? I ordered a billet a few days ago.
That's a good list, the only thing i would add to it is a 180 degree thermostat Heat is the number one enemy of any engine. Kicking your fans on at 180 instead of 230 is going to make your car run much cooler therefore it stays in the power more consistently and prolongs the life of your engine. Also A good thermostat runs you any where from 30 to 50 bucks so they arent expensive
Except... they've tuned the cars to operate in a certain temp range. If you read the SRT owners manual, they tell you this. The hellcat for example, it's peak performance operating temp is about 220. I'm pretty sure the SRT Engineers know more than you, me, or anyone on youtube...
Hey I really want a scat pack and I’m seriously considering getting one and daily driving for years on end do you recommend that or would that be stupid I’m absolutely in love with this car
I've had my '15 Scat for almost 2 years now and love it! No exhausts or other mods yet because I've taken advantage of the factory powertrain and just want to wait to do anything. Long story short, got the hemi tick at 45k and got a brand new engine. I'm here because now I want more power! Lol I've gotten used to this 485 and ready to kick it up a notch. I've been considering the hellcat. 💪🏿 However, this is a GREAT car with good sound and power as is! Forewarning! If your foot is heavy, you'll stay at the pumps because it can guzzle! Lol
Your doing good with the videos man. Been subscribed since the first video and glad to see you gaining subs and hope more come. Keep up the good work! LOVE the scat pack btw. Wish I would have gotten that color instead of sublime green.
Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of sublime green.. but I have seen a few that do look good if modded right! Thanks for the support man! I highly appreciate it.
Tuning the car will void the warranty. So wait after three years or 36,000 miles. The only thing I’m giving you crap about is the spun around hat. What are you, 11?
I bought a used 392, I’m tying to find the previous owner so I can figure out what has been done. But it pushes harder than other 392s I’ve driven. I usually don’t go for used muscle or performance cars but this one was not able to be passed up. I do got to get a catch can ASAP
that's my dilemma too.. I have a '19 392 RT...great warranty however I maintain my cars very well to the point having a warranty is useless unless I have a lemon. I already have the catch can, hellcat intake/throttle upgrade, no problems. In the works on getting that Borla ATAK exhaust and a tuner, not sure which one to pick though.
I have a 2021 daytona 392 with a factory mopar cold air intake; definitely sounds better than the factory air box and increased air flow; I ported and polished my factory 80mm throttle body with an airaide throttle body spacer and got better dyno numbers than my buddies 392 with an 87mm throttle body with cai. People talk crap about spacers but I definitely feel a tremendous difference.
Well said and thought out. I've done these mods to a LS Vette along with long tube headers and not much happened until I got a dyno tune then, WOW ! So yes these mods work on all engines.
How does one end up with LESS HP than stock just by modding ? And the Dyno is for people who can afford to fix something that Dodge WON'T cover under warranty.
I have a 15 challenger srt392.. ran a 12.5 at 111 stock..... budget mods are diablo pcm and tuner, mid muffler delete, cat delete, 180 tstat, hellcat intake, ported throttle body (easy), and an email hemifever 91and trans tune. After the mods I ran an 11.8 at 116mph..... (no seats) about 730 dollars into it.
@@southfloridascatpack2537 what waa the overall build cost because my father is getting a 392 and we wanna do stuff to it but we also have a project car and don't wanna give the project car a short hand.
Catch can is a must. Best mod for 392 is a pro charger tuning kit ! For around 8 grand you gain 200hp on a stock engine. Comes with a hand held tuner or you can take it to the shop and dyno! My car has been pro charged for over 2 years with no issues other than I snapped the rear drive axle on drag radials! I upgraded to level 5 axles now so all is good! Lol
I installed a Procharger on my 2012 Charger Srt 6.4 about 6 years ago. I bought the kit with installed tune bc there's no one here with a dyno to tune it. So it's just stock w/ Corsa exhaust. I never raced it but it's fun on the street 😊.
Good video, just bought 1. Scared asf of it. Will probably do the catch can first. Then a intake. Honestly I'm coming out of a 3.6 into the 6.4 and it is nothing nice. Can I ask who and how much that strutbar cost? That red and grey with the name is 🔥
I have a 2016 Scat 5200 miles already installed my catch can & just ordered my hellcat box with the hellcat filter what throttle body do you recommend ? I do plan on getting a tune as well Thanks in advance ! subscribed.
A hellcat air intake ... you mean the entire box, right? ... like literally removing the 6.4 air intake box and replacing it with a hellcat one... and manually opening up that front headlight port
They suck yah pocket that's not a Real Hemi at all, run's super hot cause of fuel injection um um um Yall need to go to school and learn yall all got fuck for Fake ass hemi's
@@tremainsmith6352 Mechanically it's a "semi-hemi". And bo one needs to go to school. Less than 5 minutes in Google and you can look it up. These new gen hemis are not identical to the originals from the 60s and 70s...but the are similar. They are semi hemispheric . Look it up. And they make more power and torque than the older engines and are more reliable and get better fuel economy. The old "elephant" 426 hemi advertises 425 hp. Realistically mad 480hp . We have now a 6.4L hemi that makes 485hp...
I've been told that an oil catch can by some people is bad. Even though your intake and valves will gunk up, they're cleanable and it still lubricates the top of the cylinder walls. I still use a catch can on mine, but what are your thoughts? Have you heard about that before? Also, do you think a 2mm throttle body port would do anything without a tune?
Got myself a 2014 300C SRT8 and love the big-ass refined brute. Fantastic engine that 392 and just effortless even in standard trim. I’ll never get to drive near it’s potential but it’s fairly interesting on launch assist.😁👍
One thing that I've learned.. after you make a modification give yourself a week or so after running the vehicle let the car adjust to the mod. Straight away you'll never notice anything..
Diablo is the worst tuning solution you can ever buy. It's a waste of money. Do not listen to this guy about this... Anyone that suggests that tuning solution doesn't know a single thing about tuning.. do yourself a favor and get an HPtuners for starters. Most people don't need to get a standalone ECU... Like a Holley dominator or haltech.
When you get a high quality Cold air intake when you put the box in a in the bumper is a air scoop that leads right to the top off the intake what you can do is get some adhesive heat sheild and wrap your cold air intake box on the outside keep everything inside cool also seal the bottom with it
