Myself as well as many of your viewers wear alot of hat's, Iwent to the merch link NO HATS! I would buy a couple if you decide to add em to your store. Have a blessed day.
Just picked up an X bolt Hells Canyon Speed in 6.8 Western and I am flat out impressed. Working on ballistics but the recoil with the brake very tame and in a full set up rifle under 8.5 lbs with the capabilities it has, it’s one hell of a hunting rifle.
I've never been able to get interested in 6.5 creedmoor, but the 6.8 westerns are such a big step up in power and great flat shooting bullets that I am seriously impressed and want to buy one.
Those 175 grain are shooting same speeds as real world 7prc 175 eldx.. seems Hornady is pumping their numbers a bit and the 6.8 western is much more on par with it than we originally thought?
@MatthewKyle-sg5uo Not so friend.. energy is mass x velocity.. and another wound channel I think if you do a real world measurement you will find .277-.280 is very very small diameter difference.. almost irrelevant in the terms of frontal diameter
@MatthewKyle-sg5uo Just for reference.. the 6.8 western diameter is 7.06 mm and the 7mm is 7.2mm.. almost nothing. Whereas a 6.5 creedmoor or prc is 6.7mm for all intents and purposes the 6.8 and 7mm will be unmeasurable in difference.. at least to an animal or you or my perceptions. But I will give you that, 7mm prc is bigger if only by a hair.
@Stewart7516 lol I don't think it will make much of a difference. Just taking a page out of the 30 cal guys book. Lol I think the 6.8 western is a fine cartridge. I don't think it's any better than 7 prc. I don't really think the 7 is better either. Maybe if you want to bump up to the 195 eol then maybe but I don't. I actually plan to reload some 168 nosler aclr for mine.
Nice numbers! The 6.8 Western seems to combine the best qualities of the .308 WIN short action round and the high velocities of the .30-06 Springfield. I hope the 6.8 Western gets more popular among those who want bullet weights heavier than the .270 WIN but with the long range stability of the less powerful 6.5 Creedmoor.
I have a 300 WSM, awesome, but, looking at this, the caliber with a 170, the velocity, I imagine the accuracy is outstanding, looks like a "hunting" winner.
Adam, the 6.8 Western is .277 right? Just like the .270 Winchester. A performance test between the two would be great to see. Other factors are price and general availability.
The 6.8 western has better perforomance. The old 270 can’t usually handle anything more than 150gr, which is where the 6.8 shines with 165 and 175. And if you put a 130gr in the 6.8 itd still shoot quicker than the 270. The 6.8 is 7mm rem mag performance
@@devinb3397 The only differences between the old 270 and the 6.8 western is the twist rate, the 270 is 1 in 10 and the "new" 6.8 is 1 in 8 I believe to stabilize those long, heavy for caliber bullets. The 6.8 is the 270 wsm lengthened and of course that faster twist rate.
Another rifle to replace the old .270 it to will take it's place in history with .284, .280 .6.5s and so on I think I will keep my .270 also mine don't need 170 grain hits like a 18 wheeler with 140 s I use 130 s just to save meat lol great video though you're videos are the best I think good info
@@kingfisher302 using less bullet eight doesn’t save meat. Sometimes using more actually will. It’s all about the bullet construction, a bonded or monolithic bullet damages way less meat than a varmint projectile. A regular 130gr soft point will do way more meat damage than a 150gr bonded projectile.
Hey WTW, I just wanted you to know that I appreciate you and it is obvious after watching every video you have made that you are a good person. Thank you for being alive.
Hey Adam Can’t wait to see ya shoot it at a mile mate I’m sure that’s going to be an interesting test for the Western I believe the 6.8 is a very accurate round . Steve from Australia .
I like watching you ,I have done thing in the past like ,only I didn't get paid for it , but in tgw past markmen loke your self have tried different twist with the 277. But they always go back to the 1in 10 for accuracy, I can't wait to see what you get with the 6.8 western
All my boolot's drop after about 10ft. When I was in the military, I shot best when it was raining hard and the water was running down my face and glasses. I was the best and they told me I'd be the rain sniper. I think I paid more attention to my fundamentals more. Ruger Rich
Hi WTW , your very lucky having your own gun range in your property. You can shoot any time you wish, I wish you all the best. 6.8 western it’s very good cartridge for hunting, even for bears 🐻,
I'm a little disappointed in the winchester big game ammo🤔 I just ordered 200 rounds of it. I'll be ordering that same rifle soon. Right now still shooting 300winmag.
Finally got a Mod 70 Supergrade Maple in 6.8 to complement my Browning Medallion 6.8W and Mod 70 Weather Warrior 6.8W. Bought 200 factory rounds and 500 6.8 W brass. Probably set for life now on 6.8W, unless I decide to buy a 6.8 W barrel for a Ruger M77 Hawkeye stainless in 280 Rem that I have.
I gotta do my browning long range 26 inch barrel in 6.8 soon I’m building it for long distance hunting and I need to get the info done so I can send off for my leupold cds turret.
That’s why I don’t like those kinds of chronographs. I’d love to have one of those Lab Radar chronos (or whatever they’re called… the big orange square ones).
Sweet looking weapon. I only wish they would’ve named it a 270 Western, I’m a big fan of the 270 caliber rifles. Can’t wait to see you Stretch it out to a mile.
Johnathan I think maybe you need a hug. Ballistics are entirely different from any other 270. Projectiles completely different. Every party has a pooper 😆
@@WHOTEEWHO 6.8 is based off the 270wsm. The 270wsm was an attempt to put the 270 in a short action. The 6.8 Western is a redesign of the 270wsm with a fast twist rate, and the neck pushed pack to hold long heavy high bc bullets. In short an optimized 270, but still a 270 In all reality.
You cracked me up when you said you wanted to make sure you didn't put a hole in the chronograph -- I'm guessing somewhere out there is a chronograph with a hole in it. 😂
@@tylermallory2504 Yes sir, I considered rechambering mine several time. There were only 1500 of them made in Win Featherweight when I got it. Still might do it; the AI puts the bite fully in out there.
@@johnshields9110 I love mine but m I'm an avid hand loader and was before I made took AI jump. And 280 rem is still a way underrated cartridge these days and I have no idea why, I think its phenomenal!
@@tylermallory2504 Same here on reloading! I chose the 280 Rem as my light/medium rifle down from my Magnums. I found a 130 gr and 160 gr combo that shot perfectly, with a 275 & 350 yard zero with no scope fidling. Never got to my rifle elk hunt. My Win would hold 1 in the tube, 5 under in the internal mag. Didn't even need to carry extra shells. Used it as a Bean Field deer rifle; never needed more than 1 shot there.
@@johnshields9110 elk is primarily all I hunt and 9 times out of 10 my 280AI is on my shoulder! I have taken more than a dozen with that rifle and not once have I had one go more than 75 yards.
Hey I’m not joking at my rural king they are stacked with ammo I know you already went to rural king and they had nothing but if you’re by a rural king you might want to stop and see if they have any ammo
Same bore diameter and both equipped with a twist rate to stabilize heavier bullets than the original .270 Winchester. cartridge. The sig round is a much smaller case, less powder capacity, but utilizes a hybrid case design featuring a steel head that can withstand 80,000 psi chamber pressure without issue while standard cartridges (like this 6.8 western) all have to stop around 65000 psi as the brass in the cartridge head will start to “flow” at pressures much higher than this. The 6.8 western is still a significantly more powerful cartridge.
😂 I've done that same scope thing on my AR-15 you just quite didn't tighten them down enough I bought a torque screwdriver haven't had that problem since
I would like to see what it does to a watermelon at a hundred yards I know when you shoot melons and stuff from closes cool but wonder what kind of velocity and energy it has at a hundred yards for watermelon and a hundred yards you would show more accurate what the round does a distance one would think right thank you again for creating for creating the usable data for us to look at and give one a physical idea or what's going on thank you
I suspect your faster velocity is due to you having a longer barrel then what was used to test with. They probably tested on a 22 inch or a 20 inch barrel. 🤔 I need a chrono. I wanna see what the 300blackout is doing out of a 16inch....
Try also in comparison the 270 short mag and you will be shocked and amazed and even might be pleased on the comparison on everything across the board to your to your to your move to your video on what you give me out right now in comparison try it
Still too low for that. For a real ballpark figure multiply the metres per second by 3 to get close enough to the FPS to know this isn't a metric issue. Where he got 228 on the chronograph that means it should be around 690 feet per second, not nearly enough for it to have been in metres per second. The true conversion on 228 m/s is 748 FPS so it's only a rough guide to a ballpark figure. It's a good point you raised though, very expensive spacecraft and rockets and probably lots of other things have been destroyed because of calculation errors caused by mixing the two units!
What's the difference between 270 WSM and these bullets? If Browning and Winchester weren't owned by the same company I would say patent and copyright law problems
The 6.8 western case is slightly shorter allowing you to load long heavy bullets and still be a short action. Also has a faster twist to stabilize the heavy bullets.
@@Dfleuryoutdoors look into WSM line of bullets..Winchester Short Magnum..300...7 mm ...270...6 mm......u don't think you are familiar with the true and first short magnums
@@WHOTEEWHO only 219 inches of drop at 1000 yards with a 95gr .224 projectile. 3200fps muzzle velocity. One of the flattest shooting rounds ever. It's a shame it isn't as popular as 6.5 creed
@@WHOTEEWHO it sucks to have to shoot more to get the numbers. but having reloaded for along while and tested a lot of rounds, 4 is my bare minimum, 5 is preferred, and 7 is ideal if checking velocity to get a good number. its not fun to load up that many test rounds on a balance bean scale. and its certainly not fun to shoot 5 out of a box of 20. but it will more accurately tell you how fast your ammo is going. and more importantly, how consistent the ammo is shot to shot. your SD and ES. shooting long range your SD and ES are king.
Made for a good video but in all reality you've decided in a previous video that the match bullets shoot the best an will be used to stretch out to 1000yrds++ so why waste them hunting bullets since you don't really need the data for those. Just saying. On a side note. Keep it up an cheers 🎯
Hate the Chrono problem but it looks like they all should be close to 2900 out of 22 to 24 inch barrel with good twist rate. Military is looking into using a 6.8 × 51mm round. Like 6.8 bc info better than 6.5mm. Thanks
Seems like the hotter the barrel got it started tightening up on those bullets. Hmmm. I wonder if you tried it cold get higher numbers. I was say that beast round was too close to the chrono. Lol. With how you get info on bullets. You need a lab radar. Offffffffhhh there 800$ seems like you need a sponsor........
