In this video I show you how I replaced the lower radiator and do a flush with evaporust thermocure on a ford with the 6.9 or 7.3 idi diesel engine. Hit that 👍 thumbs up before you take off. Really appreciated by this small youtuber trying to beat the evil algorithms and get information out to more people that can use it. Check out the following links for more #idi #diesel videos.

Tech tip. If you want to use distilled water for your radiator but you don't want to spend all the money flushing it, then just flush it with the garden hose. When it's done being flushed, pop your upper radiator hose off the radiator and stick your air gun nozzle in there with a rag filling up the gap around it. Give it a couple light blasts to help push the garden hose water out the bottom hose, which is also disconnected from the radiator. Then reconnect your hoses, and refill with the correct mix of coolant and distilled water. The process of using the air hose ensures as much of the hard mineralized water from the garden hose is removed from the system as possible. Then it won't plug up your radiator down the road. Signed A guy who lives in an area with very hard water.

@@worthshop No problem. Hey by the way, I just wanted to say thank you for your videos on these particular engines. I went to look at an F350 ambulance today, and the info from your videos kept me from getting scammed.

Man, I ALMOST had this exact failure on my 1987 IDI. The lower rad hose ballooned at that exact spot BUT I caught it on my pre-check list before a long distance drive. I'm bummed that happened to you but I guess that's the chances we take with these old trucks with crispy old parts lol😅

How do I know if my fuel selector module is pulling from two separate when I throw the switch
@worthshop
@worthshop Год назад
I personally would just install manual valves and be done with the tank selector, but I am a weirdo that likes manual stuff... So if I was to test one, I would probably disconnect the lines and run them to milk jugs or clear bottles to see where they are pulling from and returning to and look for air bubbles that would indicate leaking.

@worthshop

@psd28 They make cheap little testers. It is like a tube that you suck up a little coolant with, has different colored plastic balls and tells you what freezing temp it is safe to. The couple dollars for the tester is well worth the investment.

Hey Aspie, you do video requests? More info on cavitation? I inherited my 94 7.3 IDI, Factory Turbo , from my Dad. He, had to have engine rebuilt at LOW miles due to cavitation. I own it now, for 10 yrs. 165,000 Mi. Never changed coolant, done the test strips, ect. I'll never sell this pick-up. Any info would be AWSOME! thanks!
@worthshop
@worthshop Год назад
It is my understanding that cavitation occurs over many many years and lots of miles. It is a super slow process for air bubbles to eat through the block. Really not sure what all I'd put in a video about it, but will ponder it a bit.

I replaced my stock radiator with an aluminum one about a year ago. Any special tips or tricks to keep it running well? I don’t imagine I need to flush for another couple years? Thanks for using those hands to build shit
@worthshop
@worthshop Год назад
No special tips or tricks with the aluminum radiator. Coolant is usually good for 2-5 years depending on what kind you put in the truck. Some extended life coolants are good for even longer. You can get a coolant tester pretty cheap and test it beginning of each winter just to be safe. Thanks for watching and God bless

Just use distilled water on the last rinse. I always use distilled water to dilute the antifreeze.
@worthshop
@worthshop Год назад
Probably a good idea. I have never gone out of my way to use distilled water. But maybe I will regret it in the future. I learned alot from old timers and the ones that taught me scoffed at distilled water. So I aquire that same attitude. Thanks for watching, and God bless.
