Tire plug kits are super handy and have saved me multiple times just in town.
@OutdoorAuto
@OutdoorAuto 3 года назад
They have come in huge on many trips for me... I would guess almost all my tires on my trucks have plugs in them by the time they are retired.
@dpeagles
@dpeagles 3 года назад
@@OutdoorAuto Of course some people poopoo tire plugs and insist they are dangerous. I think the danger comes from driving on them when flat and actually damaging the tire.

Safe Jack is a great alternative and they also make stabilizer kits that work on bottle jacks and Hi-Lift jacks. Currently, I have the stock Tundra jack, the safe jack system, hi-lift, and an exhaust jack with me on trips.

thanks another great video. I have to reinforce the point you made about a high lift jack. We Used it like a winch when my son and I got stuck in a mud pit. It took us 3 hours to get out but we got out with no one else around. Right after that we got a winch but we still carry the high lift.
@OutdoorAuto

I love having a winch but I have had them fail me at the worst times... I always have a winch... but I always have my Hi lift and straps... just in case.

Great point about the Pro Eagle Kratos. I ended up with one for dual duty as a shop jack.

When you get double duty out of it I feel like all of a sudden it feels like a good deal at the price point.

Most danger with the hi lift comes from the kick when the vehicle is being lowered. I got smacked once during an exhausting recovery. Luckily it hit me under the jaw and not on it. I have lots of room and bring both hi lift and pro eagle.
@OutdoorAuto
@OutdoorAuto 3 года назад
YES... this is exactly right... people get use to the pressure coming when they push down and aren't ready for it to push up so hard on the way down... it gets a lot of people. This is why I always tell people to at least get a little practice in while they are safe.

There's also the liftmate which works really well in my experience to use the wheels to attach the hilift to.

You forgot to mention keeping a proper jack base for a bottle jack or hi-lift. It can be something as simple as a scrap piece of 2x10 or metal plate. Or you can get a maxtrax mini or hi-lift specific base.

Never leave the high lift under a load with the handle in the down position. I live a ranch style life n usually have 2. They are stubborn and literally potentially leathal. Mine nearly killed me once when the handle flew up n hit me in the head. My fault.Dsndahermit.

Bottle jack are good because they are cheap, don’t take up a lot of space, and can had in a variety of sizes and weight capacity. It would be awesome to have a floor Jack like the Pro Eagle but I don’t have that kind of room in my Land Cruiser. So bottle jack it is. And they can be used as a secondary or support jack in case the primary jack slips. Keep up the good work.
@CortJohnson
@CortJohnson 3 года назад
Exhaust jack is amazing except cannot be used near anything hot which excludes almost one side of the vehicle. Gas tank is on the other side which can be an issue as well.

I run a perentie, I have a mechanical screw bottle jack, 4wd scissor jack and a hilift, I don’t carry a hydraulic anymore because when they get wet they rust and fail, the hi lift is safe because I use a large shackle to fasten it to one of 4 helicopter lift points and it can’t flop over, still have to be careful of the handle flicking back as I got grazed on the skull by it before

@OutdoorAuto
@OutdoorAuto Год назад
its a pretty cool setup... I am curious how strong it is when it tilts and loads shift. its pretty obvious those trailer jacks can lift a heavy load straight up and down... but the metal is very thin compared to a Hi-lift... somebody that knows physics needs to do the math and tell me if the Tauler jack is still sound when not operating in a square, flat friendly environment.
@overlandtowater
@overlandtowater Год назад
@@OutdoorAutoI agree I don't know if it will take the side load like a HiLift will but with 3/16 welded on the body and the lift portion probably made from 3/16 it should be strong enough. I use a suburban so I really should buy the strongest jack possible but the tauler jack sure looks like a fun project.

Isn't the hi-lift extreme jack also made out of different metal? And they only realistically useful if you have bumpers and sliders that are adequate to lift from, and most aren't.
